Jason Kerrigan and Bronwyn Dalmouth are pilots with the Republic of Texas Army Air Corps. It is 1947 and World War II has just brought an end to Crockett Air Field, where both served and few survived. Both Jason and Bronwyn are dismayed to be called away from the front to test an experimental aircraft. Even if it could mean an end to the war, they hate to leave their friends on the front lines. The call of duty, however, cannot be ignored. The experimental craft lands Jason and Bronwyn in what they believe to be the future: a lifeless land where their town is but a heap of forgotten rubble and a strange old castle looms over all. On a wild chance, they are propelled back in time to 1947. The war is over. Everyone is living in peace. And everything they knew is gone. Somehow, their trip to the future has changed the past . . . or has it?

This is numbered as the third book in the Garison Fitch saga, but in many ways it's more like a cousin to the first two novels. I especially liked the character of Bronwyn and have wondered if there were anything else I could do with her.
