Another nasty, dark, bloody, twisty, mind bending, nail biter, soul crushing, riveting page-turner! Oh boy this author is villanelle. She is the evil queen of ultra-talents kingdom, pushing our buttons and playing mind games with us and you’re voluntarily letting her do that because you’re having so much fun.

This is my Christmas Eve's last reading and I'm already in celebration mood as you may see below:

Welcome to the power drunk, vicious, ambitious, competitive business women’s world. When you

A smart, feminist thriller with elegant prose and complex, skilfully constructed characters. The Herd (emphasis on her) is set in an all-female work environment, exploring the relationships between women, female ambition, and the price of success for women.

Katie and her sister Hana are finally reunited when Katie moves back to New York. When their friend Eleanor, the founder of The Herd, goes missing, they both become entangled in the investigation. And everyone is a suspect.

With lots of twists

If I hadn’t been away this weekend, I would have ripped through THE HERD in two sittings at most. Just like Andrea Bartz’s critically acclaimed, heart-pounding debut THE LOST NIGHT, THE HERD pulses with tension and suspense from beginning to end. The story is told by Katie and Hana, two sisters burdened with secrets who are finally living in New York at the same time. When their close friend Eleanor, the cofounder of the Herd, a glamorous all-female workspace, goes missing, they launch separate ...more

I am really enjoying this new wave of feminist literature that addresses the pros and cons of social media and influencers! This one was a fascinating look at a "women only" company, founded by elite star Eleanor that encourages women to work collectively at The Herd where fashion and beauty intersect and collective workspaces and Mocktail Mondays are all the rage. Told in alternating chapters by sisters Hana and Katie, the novel focuses on several issues relevant to today: the trolls that ...more

Katie is a young, aspiring author. She’s working on her first novel and is back in NYC after spending some time in Michigan, writing, researching and also helping take care of her ill mother. Now that she’s back in the big city, she’s excited to learn more about, and hopefully join, The Herd. What is The Herd, you ask? It’s a women-only collective workspace. For a monthly fee you can belong to this exclusive group, use the common areas to conduct work, write, just get away from all the noise, ...more

THE HERD is a strong, compelling follow-up to THE LOST NIGHT, Andrea Bartz's debut novel. Laying bare the complexity of relationships between women--familial, friendship and work-related, THE HERD is a feminist thriller with more than a few twists, turns and surprises for the reader. I was sure--sure!--I had figured it out, only to find out I was completely wrong, a fact which I enjoyed immensely, right down to the sucker punch the final page delivers. This is sure to be one of the most ...more

I was all down for the female empowerment at the center of THE HERD, but I ended up having some issues that kept me from really enjoying this one. I loved the concept of a murder mystery at an all woman's social club, but found myself having issues connecting with any of the characters...I'm all for flawed females, but these women are unlikable and difficult to root for and spend most of the book backstabbing each other. I found myself bored by the murder mystery and ultimately don't think I can ...more

Guys, this read was great! Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Publishing for the advanced reader copy. The Herd is an exclusive workspace for elite women with a powerhouse of a leader, Eleanor. When Eleanor suddenly goes missing the night before a huge announcement for the company, her closest friends and family are shocked. The book is told through alternating perspectives, changing back and forth between two sisters with dark secrets of their own. Andrea Bartz did a great job developing ...more

I really enjoyed this all female thrill ride in the heart of NYC! Women are cut throat and I loved it. There were a lot of characters and stories to keep straight but I enjoyed the concept and the twists in this book. Thanks to Netgalley for my advanced ebook copy. Add this to your TBR for 2020!!!

Andrea Bartz has done it again and blown me away! I love her writing style, she throws in bits from the past that always make me feel nostalgic or that I can connect to and those details make me fully invested in the story. The book sets up a bunch of different mysteries that could tie into the murder of Elenor. Everyone seems to have a secret and it's all about figuring out which secret is deadly. The book really picks up in part 4 and I absolutely loved the ending, a twist I didn't see coming! ...more

This book is a fascinating, chilling look inside an upscale workspace for women in New York City. Andrea Bartz nails this one, from the twisty plot to what it means to be a professional woman in today’s world. This book will make you wonder how well you know your coworkers!

I enjoyed the story so much! Wasn’t your typical thriller.
I loved both POV of the sisters, Hana and Katie, where each had their own secrets.
Not many books makes me stop and marvel at some of the words and sentences used.
The story kept me guessing until the end.

I received this Arc courtesy of Ballatine Books.
The Lost Night was one of my favorite books of last year. When I saw this one was on it's way out I couldn't contain my excitement. Not only do they both take place in NYC, where I live, the suspense, storyline and characters draw you in immediately.
This book hit all the markers of how social media is, what the new in things are to say and how feminism is making a new voice in this third wave. So many social identity aspects are discussed, even

I was a big fan of Andrea Bartz's THE LOST NIGHT, so I was elated to get an advanced reading copy in a shipment from the publisher. While that book was more of an individual story, this one is more focused on a group. The Herd is a co-working space, but the title can also be seen as a name for them - sisters Hana and Katie, hippie Mikki, and beautiful rising-star entrepreneur Eleanor, founder of The Herd. Hana and Katie narrate in alternating chapters. When Eleanor does not show up for a big ...more

Ballantine Books for the opportunity to read and review The Herd. What a great suspense filled read. I don't usually enjoy multiple POV's but I did this one. I think that the characters are well-flushed out and it has a cut throat back drop that keeps you turning the page. It is a definite hit!

Andrea Bartz shows no sign of a sophomore slump in this smart, exquisitely-crafted story. The characters are fully realized and complex, the prose is masterful, and the pieces of the mystery snap together with elegant precision. This is a devastating and beautifully written story, balancing page-turning pace with thoughtful character reveals.

THE HERD begins with a mysterious act of vandalism in a high-profile women's co-working space, with a special emphasis on The Herd's founder and her small

I enjoyed Andrea's THE LOST NIGHT, so I was super excited to start THE HERD and it completely blew me away! The characters were especially likeable and the ending was a complete surprise! I could barely put this book down and it kept me guessing until the very end! What a great ride of a read!

What started out as a straightforward novel, turned into a complicated story of four women who wanted to belong to something greater than themselves. The characters are complex. They have a shared history of secrets that will gradually be uncovered.

It's impossible for me to tell enough of the story for a good review without giving information that might spoil the read for others. I was interested from the beginning and never expected the final outcome. This is definitely a solid story worth the

A twisty, feminist, and sometimes satirical thriller set in the media world of hipster Brooklyn and NYC. Had a hard time putting this one down—Bartz is the mistress of the pageturner!

This review may be a little splotchy, because I stayed up way too late inhaling this book until the very end. I’m too tired to try and string appropriate words together to accurately describe the way it made me feel, but I’ll try.
The HERD was my first read of 2020 and I’m so thrilled it exceeded my expectations. I don’t remember where I saw it to add it to my tbr, but I was intrigued enough to apply for an ARC and so excited when I received a copy! I know I put it on my tbr recently, but I

This book was amazing! There were twists and turns and things you saw coming and then things you didn't. I am a little slower at reading, but I really enjoyed reading this. All I have to say is the Epilogue had my mouth open and me thinking, "Oh my gosh!". I will not say why as I do not want to spoil it, but trust me the VERY end of the book will have you doing the same! This is a book that will have you guessing until the very end. You will not be disappointed!

I read an advanced copy of "The Herd," and wow, there are so many unexpected twists and turns in this thriller that I zipped through it. It kept me guessing until the end, and the entangled and complicated dynamics between the main characters—all women—are just as captivating as the novel's many mysteries. Overall entertaining and fun book!

I absolutely INHALED this book in about one day, and I was so bummed when I finished it. The characters feel like people I know (complex, messed up, nuanced, real), and the plot is fast-paced and genuinely surprising. I particularly enjoyed Andrea Bartz’s sharp send-up of corporate feminism—feels very of-the-moment. If you enjoy mystery thrillers like Gone Girl, Girl on the Train, or Sharp Objects, you’ll love this one.

Devil Wears Prada, Technology, Meets Silicon Valley perhaps? Andrea Bartz is a force to be written with. The Herd is intensely smart, edgy, and overall it appeals to various reading palates. I cannot wait to see what she brings next to the literary world.

Super smart, with real characters, clever writing and plot twists you won't see coming, The Herd is a book you simply can't put down. It has a feminist slant and captures women as they are in real life: complicated and messy. You'll be swept up in the story until the very last page.

I am obsessed with this book. "The Herd" is such a smart examination of this moment in our culture, but yet it is also SO MUCH FUN. It's a totally addictive, twisty story -- I spent my whole weekend constantly second-guessing myself as I tried to untangle the mystery. Andi has a true gift for telling stories that are elevated but approachable. Intelligent but breezy. "The Herd" is a gem.

4.5 rounding down to 4 only because I am feeling stingy with 5 star ratings lately. This was a GREAT mystery/suspense novel, with the perfect amount of intrigue and well executed twists without overwhelming the reader with unreliable narration and forcing them to question each word they read. The Herd does a great job at examining different female personalities and friendships and how people see each other in general to have them fit within their individual lives. The way it is written does not ...more
