When his granddaughter is kidnapped by a sociopath, Kentucky mountain man Cole Clayfield must test all his tracking skills and pursues the madman's trail through the rough mountains and mean city streets. Reprint.
A child kidnapped by a prisoner as he escapes, a man who will do anything, to anyone, to remain free. Two grandfathers who will do anything they can to get her back unharmed. One is wealthy and powerful, in their corner of the world, with tentacles that reach well beyond. The other is a "throwback," a Kentucky mountain man who lives by the ways of an era long gone. Both make bad moves, mistakes. Each knows the other is screwing up the possibility for their granddaughter to survive.
This is a suspenseful novel, with plenty of bodies and nail-biting between its covers. However, the beauty of the mountains and of love, portrayed so eloquently by Strunk, take this book well beyond the thriller genre. Despite the danger and the blood, this is a beautiful book.
A decent, fairly taut action thriller about the abduction of a little girl by a psychopath criminal which forces her mountain man/ tracker of a grandfather to go looking for her when the law fails to find her.
Though marred by heavy-handed lectures on morality and an endless lamenting of the lifestyle of a bygone era, some good cliffhanger scenes, a harrowing battle for survival in the woods after suffering serious injuries, and a satisfying ending raise this thriller somewhat above the countless others on the shelves.
