OH MY GOODNESS, WHAT A FANTASTIC BOOK I COULD HARDLY PUT DOWN! I loved the bulldog way that Captive Eve Scanlon took charged when a missing teenager was found in a shallow grave and her retired partner had religious searched for the girl for decades! Eve was sure that the "church" was guilty but without any proof no search warrant would be issued. She left her office without letting any one know wheres he was headed, but later, she curse herself for all kinds of fool while running for her life! ...more

If you have read previous books in this thriller/romance series, you’ve met Captain Eve Scanlon. She’s not longer behind the scene but front and center in Dark Prison.
Though there is a romance interest with professor Kemal Goodwin, her retired mentor’s son, it’s much more than that.
This is a thought provoking story. One being the fact that “cult-like” churches/farms do exist and when underage children are missing , they might end up in one of these locations frequently brainwashed, abused and ne

This is my first read by this author, though I've found more on my kindle so I need to catch up. This story grabbed me from the beginning and kept me entertained. I enjoyed the twists and turns throughout this story investigating a 'cult'. The book was interspersed with their budding relationship but it didn't overpower the story which I liked.

Another great Dark Falls book. Full of twists and turns. I love this series and this book is a great addition. There is more to the story than just the evil that happens but the good that can come out of a situation.

This book had Eve working to solve solve a cold case that her former partner had been unable to solve. It was interesting the way Eve pulled together the facts of the case regarding the missing teenagers. Being able to determine that the church was more of a cult than a commune, Eve steadily put the pieces of the puzzle together.

I have to admit that I was shocked that Eve would make a dangerous move like she did at one point. Then, I was further shocked by the move Kemal made. After everything

Dark Prison

This is another suspenseful romantic story in the multi author Dark Falls series that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Eve, captain of Dark Falls major crimes came across a body in the cemetery when workers tried to bury a body there was already one at the site that was not suppose to be there. This body was perfectly preserved of Samantha Greer a woman that had gone missing years ago when she had been fifteen years old. Now this dead woman was in her thirties a

This story was fast paced, full of action and prevalent to today's society and what is going on between the police and communities. The story gives perspectives from both sides of the issue and it is thought provoking.

Captain Eve Scanlon's interest in an old missing person's case is renewed when a body is found to be that of a missing teen she and her mentor at the time were working on. A case that her mentor Glenn Goodwin kept trying to solve until he retired from the force. Eve needs Glenn's o

This is my first book by Ryan and I have not read any other books in this multi-author series yet so I do not know if characters cross stories but I had no trouble keeping up with the characters or following the plot. This read is attention-grabbing with good characters, twists and turns, and includes thought-provoking issues relevant in today’s society. It gets you thinking. There is plenty of mystery, suspense, danger, drama, and a tad of romance to hold your interest from beginning to end.

Wow! This book hit on several social injustices along with a love story. Eve had to solve an old cold case that led to a cult type, sexual violence, prisoner situation. That is one of my biggest fears for my kids. So I am very glad these villains will be handled. Throw in a little racism or rather racial awareness of how it feels to be a different race, and you have a very current affairs type of story. I loved the interactions between Eve and Kemal. I wish there were a few more to get a really ...more

In this final book in the Dark Falls series, Captain Eve Scanlon assists her detectives with the case of a woman’s body that is found in a cemetery, in a freshly dug grave. The woman is identified as a teen who has been missing for decades, has signs of being held captive and at some point, gave birth. Where has she been all these years? Ka-Boom Baby! Emotions, personalities, attitudes and dynamics are 100% spot on for realism. I felt like I was dropped right in the middle of the excitement and wanted to make a stand with the main characters. Yeah, that didn't go well. A multitude of vexing circumstances and a slew of nerve racking surprises push those conflicting emotions into play smoothly. One thrilling storyline and explosive plot keeps spinning with so many twists and turns you're not sure which way i

A riveting tale of the abduction of young women, Dark Prison takes you into the shadows of a cult masquerading as a church/commune. The body of a young woman who went missing years before has turned up. Eve opens the cold case up & stumbles into a bigger case. She involves her former partner who investigated the original case.

Kemal is the son of Eve’s former partner. He is trying to stop Eve from involving his dad in the case even as he sees it pulling him from his grief. Kemal has disliked

When I read Dark Falls, I knew I would be hooked on this series. Dark Prison did not disappoint, fulfilling my expectations of intrigue , drama, and romance.
Decades later a cold case is suddenly heating up once more. Eve Scanlon begins to investigate the old case when the body of a missing person finally surfaces. Glenn Goodwin her former partner and mentor was unable to solve the case despite his determined efforts. Glenn's son Kemal a professor is less than enthusiastic when she seeks his fath

This book opens with the find of a body related to a cold case. Eve's retired partner Glenn had continued to work this case long after it went cold and until he retired.

Now Captain, Eve is reopening the case on new evidence and she needs to talk to Glenn. She hasn't visited very often lately, her busy schedule has made that difficult. Glenn hasn't been the same since his wife died and his son, Kemal doesn't like her talking about the job but this time he doesn't get the choice.

Eve Scanlon is determined to solve a cold case murder of a teenage runaway. When new evidence comes to light she is given the go ahead to check into the case and what she finds blows the lid off an evil nobody saw coming. Along the way she has discovered she has feelings for her previous partner’s son so this makes things more complicated than Eve would like.

Mrs. Ryan has such a talent for romantic thrillers. She is able to balance these two story types so well that it makes for such interesting

While I enjoyed this book, it is not my favorite of the series. This book deals with issues that are very prevalent in today’s society, and I agree that there needs to be attention given to these issues. However, reading is an outlet that allows me to escape reality for a bit. So I prefer books that allow me to do that. I also didn’t feel a strong connection between the H and h. It seemed like their relationship was forced a bit and didn’t really *show* the development like some of Lori’s other ...more

So we've been going through the entire set of detectives at the Dark Falls Major Crimes department. It's only right that the strong woman who leads the force get her own book. This one is for Captain Eve Scanlon.
It features a cold case of a missing teenage orphan girl that comes alive when they get her body in a shallow grave being prepared for another funeral. The case lead Eve to her former partner, Glenn Goodwin...and his handsome and protective son Kemal!

As a reader you jump right in to this story! There is mystery, murder and intrigue right from the start. This isn’t just a story about solving a case though, it deals with a lot of social issues from abused teens, runaways, the foster system and race relations just to name a few. There’s also the fear of falling in love, trying to keep yourself away from someone because it seems like the right thing to do, angst and fighting the powers that be to do the right thing. I was left holding my breath ...more

This book – wow! – I read it in a day (and that’s a big deal here!). I just couldn’t stop, and now I wish there was more still to go. So good! The storyline drew me in right away. The plot moved quickly, and the characters were intriguing. The disappearances over the years and the discovery of a body were such a hook to draw you in, and the unraveling of the cold cases was such a thrill. Very well written. Eve and Kemal seem so different, but the connection is there. And, I was very impressed wi ...more

I enjoyed this book, it definitely kept me on edge. Eve wasn’t giving up on this cold case, loved how she figured out what happened to Samantha Greer. Just how crazy was this cult? Did love how she falls for her mentor’s son Kemal. But he did mess up, and was a bit cold to her at one point. It was a bit of twisted plot, definitely worth reading. I haven’t read all of the books in this series, but I did enjoy the two I read. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I recommend this book.

4.5 stars This was a real page turner! The mystery kept me intrigued, and was the main focus of the story. I find the psychology of cults very interesting. My one criticism is that I think the romance could have used more build up and tension. I didn't really feel the connection between Eve and Kamal the way I did with other couples in this series. However I liked the discussions about race; the author did a good job presenting more than one perspective on the issues between minorities and the p ...more

Wow is the best way to describe this book. Once I started it I could not put it down. Read the whole book in one evening.

Eve and her partner Glenn had been working on a case for a long time. Glenn has been retired from the force for over 5 years and now Samantha's body has turned up. They have reopened the cold case and are trying to solve the murder.

It is a good book that takes you through the process and keeps you on the edge of your seat until its finished. Highly recommend the book

This is a story about Eve a Captain with the Dark Falls Police Department. She wants to reopen a cold case that is 21 years old and uses her team to do it. It was originally her retired partners and she asks him to help. When they find some new evidence it will make the case explode. There is a lot more than meets the eye as all kinds of bad happens. She’s also meets and has different stories and emotions with her old partners son. Will they find all they need to solve the old case and possibly

I received an advanced copy of this book. This is a Dark Falls book. In this one, Eve finally catches a break on a long cold case. A body is found that leads her to a local church, that is kind of like a cult. The cold case is one that brings her back to her mentor, Glenn and his son, Kemal. She must solve the case, while engaging Glenn, discovering her feelings for Kemal, and balancing the needs of the city so that she can bring justice to all of the missing girls she is finding as she keeps go ...more

Overall I thought this was a good read. Eve is a detective working on a cold case of a missing teen. She enlists the help of her mentor and friend Glenn, but is instantly met with resistance from his son Kemal. There story is fast paced, and the suspense of the cold case is interlaced with an enemies to lovers romance between Eve and Kemal, as well as very real dialogue concerning social justice. I haven't read all books in the series, just a few, but I had no issues jumping right in.

3.5 maybe. Hard to review this one.

I liked the missing girl cold case plot, could have been a great story alone.
I wouldn't call this a romance book bc if left out it really wouldn't have changed anything.
I didn't mind the racial tension stuff but wouldn't be surprised if others thought it was uncalled for and preachy. IDK, maybe it was a way the author felt a different audience might understand and help change opinions.

An amazing story!
This was such a dark story and so very good. Captain Eve Scanlon is such a powerful character and so well written. The book will make you think the issues the author brings to light in her story these are things we face today. There a twists within a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I have to say it again this story was so good it really is a must-read! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
