I first read this decades ago in college as a required text. It stayed with me all this time. Re-read it again this year to gain a new perspective.... in view of the twisting of the religious or spiritual basis for the American experiment by the righty religious zealots. The book gave me a renewed sense of optimism about how our national experiment could still turn out happily. I really needed this!
