One day on the farm, Katie discovers that one of the new little puppies had opened its eyes. Katie gets to hold it and then she tucks it safely back with its mom and siblings. The illustrations in this book are gorgeous and the story is told with realistic conversation. One interesting thing about this series of books is that inside both the back and front covers is a painting of the whole farmyard. Each book draws out one particular character for the story, such as the lamb, the calf, the puppies. Enjoyable and beautiful.

My four-year-old son picked this book out from the library last week. I know he chose it because of the puppy on the front cover. I was not very excited about the unimaginative title, but I always let him check out the books that he thinks he wants to read.

Little Puppy proved to be as imaginative and exciting at its title. The artwork was adorable, so no criticism there. The story was fine; it's just that it could have been told in a much more engaging way. After the first two pages, my little boy didn't want to read this book anymore.
