With more than half a million international students enrolled at U.S. universities, this books makes ministry to them understandable and attainable in homes, churches, and schools.
This is a good introduction to ministry with international students. It focuses on the ministry of Internation Students Incorporated or ISI. But it would be helpful to anyone interested in being involved in a Christian ministry to international students. It gives some important information about how to relate to international students and then gives some specific guidance for working with certain ethnic and cultural groups. One weakness is that it was written in 1997 and is therfore quite dated in its statistics and is somewhat lacking in some newer ideas especially in the area of technology which has changed a lot in the last 20 years.
The church as a whole as not been very effective at taking the Gospel into the 10/40 window. So, God has had to resort to sending them here. We are living in an exciting, unprecedented time in history when the world is truly arriving at our doorsteps. Our life as a family has been incredibly enriched by the newcomers to Canada who have become part of our lives. God has given us the privilege of becoming friends and family with people from many parts of the world. This book has both inpiring stories of international friendships and much helpful information to help us in building genuine friendships with international students.
I got this book from my church. Since I am studying to be a Spanish teacher, this book was right up my alley. I loved all the chapters! There are chapters on how to build friendships with international students and how to go about sharing the Gospel with them. Also included is a section on knowing God personally that shows students how they can know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. A sample prayer is included for those who are unsure how to pray to ask for salvation. All Christians should read this book!
