2/5 ("it was ok"). I'm already on Keto+IF and enjoying it quite a bit so I got this book to collect more data about how/why the diet works, and some details on how to maximize its benefits. Unfortunately what I found was a seemingly hastily put together high-level hodge podge of related information that is breezily presented and then re-iterated a few times over and over, as if repeating the same high-level points would make a person understand things better. A lot of the information in this book is in Fat for Fuel. There is a bit more, some fine tuning. But it too is a little annoying - he recommends many steps that for most of us is burdensome, such as constant monitoring of food intake, many blood tests that doctors don't normally order, etc. The most troublesome, for me, was the notion that you HAVE to have access to a certain type of sauna to detox properly. Informative, but not a book I would recommend to most people. The diet, while probably helpful, is not very practical. I’m not a big proponent of recording everything I put in my mouth. The Dr wants you to weigh everything and keep an account of your lean body mass. Something the vast majority of us will not do. Not to mention his advice to come in contact with chemicals, such as limiting exposure to cleaning supplies and hygiene products to name a few. While this is great advice, not going to ...more

Such an informative book. I appreciate Dr. Mercola's research and his own experiences with the Ketogenic diet and keto fasting. Dr. Mercola provides the science (as well as endnotes where you can find these studies) of the ketogenic diet, basically explaining in detail why and how the diet and intermittent fasting is so beneficial to one's overall good health. He then takes this a step further with Ketofasting.

I read this off and on. I read it out of sequence. The best chapter was chapter 8. I believe a person would need to be familiar with Keto before reading this book. I read it more for the science and theory of fasting. It was just an ok read for me.

This book is very good if you are interested in starting this way of life. It's a bit technical but it helps you understand what it will do to your body, the technicality of the book makes it a little harder to read.

4 stars because even though it isn’t the best writing, I know this material is accurate and well researched, considering the amount of research Dr Mercola does. Thankful for all he does.
