I've been reading Love Inspired Christian romances for years and love them. They are short stories that have clean romance you'll never have to worry about your children picking them up and finding inappropriate content.
This is the second book I've read by this author and the story was every bit as terrific as the first.
The setting is a small town dairy farming Amish community in Iowa.

I don't usually pan an Amish book since they are usually written so sensibly and with a good plot, but this book just meanders and was filled with too many 'tragedies' for me to enjoy the book. Then to find out the why of Thad ( male protagonist) marrying May's ( female protagonist) sister, was just a slap in the face for me.

I'm not going to say more or I'll start spoiling the book for future readers, but I really ended up skimming most of this book.

It was not a very religious book ( actually it

I enjoyed The Amish Marriage Bargain by an author who is new to me, Marie E. Bast. For a Love Inspired book, there’s more character depth and layering than I would have expected, adding richness to this marriage-of-convenience story. The narrative flows steadily and the small Iowa Amish community is vividly conveyed.

May and Thad are appealing, hard working, and honorable lead characters, thrust into a difficult situation that, although I kne
I am a bit conflicted while writing this review. I liked the overall story and premise for the book, yet I kept wishing for more. I felt like I was left waiting for more details and more information which would make me truly experience what the characters were feeling. Instead, it was as if I was being told what they were feeling and I was watching it from the outside looking in, wondering about certain details and wishing they had been elaborated on.

I wanted more clarity in a few situations. Wh

This is a new author to me and to the Amish genre. I enjoyed it and look forward to her growth. I was surprised how much I liked the bishop and his matchmaking ways. I could just see the twinkle in his eye when dealing with May and Thad. I admired the character of May and how she tried doing the right thing amidst her own personal pain. It is a difficult position to be put in and I appreciated the author’s way of dealing with the premise of the story. I found it entertaining.

This was a cute story, with a twist I hadn't really expected.

I wish the author had gone into some description of what happened after the wedding at night. I'm not talking about intimacy because that wouldn't be appropriate in this type of book. But I'm talking about how it felt to lie next to each other, given their new circumstances.

I'm not rating this becuase this is on me. I should have known better as the last few Amish romance reads have not gone well for me and I knew that these type of romances dont work for me but I'm such pushover for angst that once I read the blurb I couldn't resist. Well a few pages into the book I easily guessed why the H had gone and got married to the h's sis and basically the next 80% of the book took it's time getting there. So if we detoured in the life of small farmer vs big corporate farm ...more

This is a new to me author that I enjoyed very much! I can see this author going far with her stories!
This is a book that will want to make you root for Thad and May. There will be some hurt feelings, misunderstandings and just life;s struggles for these two.
I can relate to being held back from doing what I've wanted to do. The reason is simple. I loved my mom and I'd do anything for her even if it meant lifting her wheelchair out of the car for her or getting her anything she needed. Probably

The Amish Marriage Bargain is an exceptional story written by Marie E. Bast. The author has done a wonderful job telling her story thru her amazing characters. The characters are very likeable but at times a few act very questionable.
There is a huge secret that looms throughout this story and when it is revealed it sheds a whole new light on a few characters.

I hadn’t read any books by this author before. The story is engaging but somewhat predictable. You just don’t know exactly what will drive the couple apart. Misunderstandings and miscommunication abound, along with a meddling mother-in-law. I cared about May and Thad and rooted for their success in marriage and life. They face plenty of challenges, some rather unexpected. I like surprises in a story. Some elements about the Amish in this novel are different than others I’ve heard of or read abou ...more

Quite an interesting story about a promise made to your dying sister and a bargain made strictly so you can be a mother to her tiny daughter and save your family farm. Through accidents, illness, an interfering bishop and a mother-in-law who doesn’t even like you, May wonders if she will ever be able to look beyond the past and move bravely into the future. Will Thad realize that mistakes and lies do not make good ground for a growing relationship? Can they possibly learn to forgive?

The Amish Marriage Bargain

I love reading Love Inspired books and Amish also. May marries her widowed brother in law with the insistence of the bishop. It starts out as a marriage of convenience. She has been caring for her niece. Will they be able to make their marriage work?

I loved May. She was such a hard worker and caring. She is trying so hard to save the farm while taking care of everything else. I love how she started making cheese. I wasn’t too crazy about Thad’s mother. She just didn’t

Interesting Premise

My rating is 3.5 stars

I liked the premise of the story and the mystery behind Thad's sudden jilting of May when he married her sister.

Poor May had always felt inferior to her sister. It didn't help that Thad's mother treated her as if she was lazy and incompetent! Yet May had a kind heart and a deep love for her niece, Leah. May's solution to the financial problems they were experiencing was quite clever and it was fun to read about her industry.

Marie E. Bast wrote a beautiful story about May making a promise to her dying sister, April she and a bargain made strictly so she can be a mother to her tiny daughter and help save their family farm. May's solution to the finacial problesm were very clever.

May is faced with the decision to accept her aunt's offer to work in her Indiana bakery or marry Thad. She also wanted to keep her promise to her sister, April to take care of her daughter Leah. No question about it she wanted deeply to take

This has been such a wonderful book to read. The story line is about an arranged marriage that finds May and Thad married so May can help raise her sister's baby. I enjoyed the way the author showed May's flaws and how she tried so hard to overcome them. It is hard for May to be married to Thad since he dumped her once before to marry her sister. After April dies, Thad is in need of someone to help him with Leah and finds a way to get May to marry him.

I can't imagine how hard it was for May to

“She didn’t know what was worse…losing the farm or losing her heart. But could she risk sticking around to find out?”

With “The Amish Marriage Bargain”, Marie Bast composes an inspirational romance that tugs at the heartstrings and encourages readers to never lose faith. This is the first Amish novel I’ve read that focuses on a marriage of convenience, at least as far as I can recall, and I have to admit that I’m surprised to have enjoyed it as much as I did. It did not fall into a clichéd trope,

Sometimes reading an Amish book is so frustrating because of their rules, and this one sure frustrates me. Not because of the author, Marie Bast is a new author for me and I found her writing to be very professional, and it has a way of relaxing me! And that’s a good thing. The bishop forcing May, making her options difficult. I like that May was spunky enough to stand up to the bishop. That one scene made me laugh!

Fans of Amish fiction and those of us who have Amish neighbors know that the Amish people are very forgiving people; in fact, they often easily forgive what we Englishers struggle with. In this new book by Marie E. Bast, the Amish heroine May Bender is finding it hard to forgive the hurt handed her by her Amish beau Thad Hochstedler and her sister April. The marriage vows that she and Thad were supposed to exchange had actually been said by Thad and April and now, May finds herself caring for he ...more

May would like to leave her hometown and family farm if only to get away from Thad. But then she would have to leave her one year old niece, Leah as well. And Leah is whom she loves now.

My Thoughts on The Amish Marriage Bargain:
The Amish Marriage Bargain is a great read! I love Amish fiction and romance books. While it’s pretty easy to tell the storyline here it’s one of those books you just can’t stop reading because you’re sucked in and a part of their world and lives.

Great book that I highly recommend!

As a mom, I of course just loved the baby. She’s older than you think from reading the descriptions, but only about a year old. The cover photo had me thinking she’d be younger

"The Amish Marriage Bargain" is not listed as being part of a series, but it is definitely the second book in the unnamed series. There were several times that I was very confused about what was going on. Did May move in with Thad and Leah after April died or did she always live there even when Thad and April were married since her father had told her she could live there until she got married? Sarah and Caleb were mentioned and how a pregnant Sarah wanted to take care of Leah since it was her f ...more

The Amish Marriage Bargain by author Marie E. Bast is a Christian Amish Romance novel that will capture your attention and heart. The story is original with twists, a mystery, drama, and romance. Faith and inspiration is woven throughout this lovely book and tie everything together perfectly.

As Marie Bast is a new author to me I was a bit apprehensive when choosing to review this novel. Would it be the typical Amish romance or would it have some special twists and turns that would draw me into the Amish faith? Since I am an avid reader of this genre, I get somewhat tired of the sweet romance element , unless it involves complications and it varies from the norm.

The book started out with a heartwarming tale, a marriage of convenience. The premise is good and many readers would love

Marriage of convenience in an Amish setting? Needless to say, this piqued my interest. In a way, it's almost a story within a story. You have May and Thad working through their own troubles. Then you have May working through the abandonment and anger left behind by her sister and Thad's sudden marriage, followed by April's passing. It's a lot to pack into a novel this size, but Marie E. Bast managed to pull it off.

Both characters had their flaws, and I applaud May for her stout determination. Th

What I think you should know: The Amish Marriage Bargain is an Amish fiction novel. May’s heart was shattered when her love,Thad abruptly abandoned her to marry her sister. When Thad finds himself widowed he doesn’t want May to leave town and leave him alone with his daughter

What you might want to know:
May’s sister died from complications after having her baby.

What I think about the book:
This isn’t your typical Girl meets Boy then they fall in love romance, instead it is a story of putting Fam
It's not easy playing second fiddle to anyone in any situation especially when you want to shine.
May dealt with this when her sister married her beau and then died leaving her to take care of her niece. I loved her love for Leah, there were no restrictions in that area she treated her like her own even when she wasn't sure if she'd still stay with them I loved her dilemma about Leah. I also enjoyed her ability to be innovative when the farm faced some issues I loved how she was able to come up

This book has an interesting storyline, and I liked the author’s writing style. It was easy to see how, in the Amish community, such a marriage could take place.

I liked the character of May. I had much sympathy for her and felt she was in an almost impossible situation. But honestly, even at the end of the book, I still didn’t have any use at all for Thad. This couple was quite the contrast. May was loving; much more forgiving than most people would have been; and went out of her way to help ot

I really enjoy reading Amish Fiction books. I was excited to have the opportunity to read The Amish Marriage Bargain by Marie E. Bast. This is a new to me author, and I had seen very positive reviews about this book.

May is ready to move to Indiana to help her Aunt in her bakery. Holding her back is her niece, her deceased sister’s baby. May is living in the farmhouse she grew up in but now belongs to her brother in-law. Because they are “living together” the bishop puts pressure on them to marry.
Reluctantly May goes into a marriage of convenience because of the promise she made to her sister. Thad also has a secret he hasn’t revealed to May. Why did he dump her to marry her sister April? Misunderstandings,
