This is not a flowery or poetic book, Brian Wood gives you his unvarnished story without some ghost writer trying to spruce it up. It is raw and honest as an autobiography ought to be.
Those of us who are veterans appreciate how Brian plays it straight. Those without military experience will appreciate the clear writing that explains his journey through life. We see the humility of a hero awarded highest honors and the shame of being falsely accused of war crimes by a shameless NGO industry.
I now need to watch the film, Danny Boy, that was inspired by this book.

I loved this book. I loved the structure, I loved the scene setting, the focus on mental health and how hard it is for military people. I really enjoyed learning about battles, about being in the military a whole world I know nothing about. I found the story fascinating, and shocking and I feel so ashamed about how Brian and so many of the soldiers were treated. Incredible life story... and an incredible person.
