Didn’t find this book very useful. It covers concepts in far too little detail to meaningfully understand what is being spoken about. The sentences can be awkward at times and aren’t explained simply. It talks about the importance of learning certain concepts, but then doesn’t actually teach them very well.
For example, the author tells us in Chapter 4: “you should master knowledge of data structures”. Okay, great, let’s learn! So what’s an entity? “An entity refers to a class of specific objects in a data structure. Each entity has unique attributes, which refers to a unique property that makes the entity stand out.” Er... what? Note that the author does not define objects or attributes prior to this paragraph, and he provides no further explanation/examples of entities.
It’s not a terrible book. Just not nearly as useful as I’d have hoped.
Computer Programming Fundamentals For Complete Beginners by Alexander Bell is very short. Bell intends the book to be a primer on programming. It works as an introduction to the basics.
It shows the Hello World program formatted in different languages ranging from BASIC and Perl to Java and C. Furthermore, it discusses the common problems associated with being a programmer and possible solutions.
The book is okay. I probably should have bought this as an ebook, but I have a blind spot in judgment with books. I don't think it was too expensive, so there is that, at least.
Thanks for reading my review, and see you next time.
Loved the book, it gave me perspective on coding languages and what they do, how often they are used and where to start. Its a great book to look at when you need a bit of direction. I was glad to see the last part of the book put the professional programming community as a factor of growth as well.
Got me a better idea of the learning path I have thought of.
If you are absolutely New to programming and need an introduction, this is a good book. Lots of information that will help you shape your new path. I kept getting ideas for future projects. This book really helped me to understand what I need to know and do to get where I want.
