Our world is being judged and even they remain unaware.
Michelle, another young woman with an unexplainable gift, finds herself surrounded by the previously undiscovered werewolf society. Kept prisoner for the predictions that torment her, she meekly follows orders waiting for her opportunity to run. When her stepfather dies, she takes a chance and escapes.
After witnessing Blake, her captor, grow canines, she knows he will do anything to find her. She needs a place to hide and someone to listen to her predictions so her head doesn’t explode, but knows there’s nowhere she can hide forever, and no one who can protect her… unless she can find someone just like him.
Part of the fur wearing faction wants to use her, another part strives to keep her safe. The second book of the Judgement of the Six series will raise more questions about the purpose of these gifted few and Michelle will need to fight for answers. Will what she discovers be enough to help her keep those she loves safe from an emerging evil?
I love to write! Sharing the worlds I've created is beyond amazing . Want to read a book for free? Check out my website at: http://melissahaag.com/free-ebook/
So Melissa Haag asked me to give her an honest review in exchange for a free copy of her book, problem was I already bought the book, but honest reviews is what we should all do anyways, so I would like to Thank her again for thinking of asking me, and after reading the first one there was no way i wasn't going to read this one. With that said this is a second book in a series so if you have stumbled across this title and it looks interesting, its a second one go check out the first one Hope(less) its also super good. And with that said if you haven't read that one...well i suppose there might be some spoilers about the first one but most likely not, because these characters are pretty separate but are in the same "world" and involved in the same stuff so yup. Now that is all said and done lets get on to the review.
Song choice first: and if you aren't aware I try to pick a song that either tells the tone of the overall book - which is vague because that is pretty impossible, or things about characters, etc, etc. So first song choice is.... "You Are Not Alone" by Saosin which is a song for Michelle, "Stars" by The Xx which is "describing", sort of, the relationship between Michelle and Emmitt. (i might also pick for their relationship "I Belong to You" by Muse, the original version not the twilight short version...mostly only because i like the original better).
OKAY! so time to gush, what i mean time to talk about first thoughts... :)... sure...first thoughts. I think that the phrase "i want to have this book's babies" is appropriate at the moment. I am not sure if that is a good enough way to describe how much i love well this series to be honest, i have yet to read Melissa's other book Touch, but i will soon! I am getting away from the point though. I feel in love with her writing style last book and now all i can think is HOW AMAZING Clay would have been if he actually talked for the whole book because Emmitt won me over the first time his mouth opened, i mean holy hell boy had some lines that i am pretty sure i literally swooned at. LITERALLY SWOONED. I think it is a tie right now on what book i liked better in this series so far because they just so amazing. This book didn't do the squeal flop, it did like a running hand-sprung back flip shit i don't know i never did gymnastics when i was young so i am pulling that from my "possibly quotes from movies" bag (and that belonged to Bring it On, the original cause all the others sucked...not the point moving on). so READ THIS SERIES. SERIOUSLY read it.
Thoughts on Plot: In the first book of this series it really felt like a love story, and it mean there was a bit of action, not to much until the end which is fine, and the characters were amazing, and you just wanted to read on. This book had more on the whole "Judgement of the Six" going on, we start to learn more about it and its becoming clearer and clearer to us. In my status updates you can see that my head explodes at one point, well the point that is that i didn't realize up until that point that this was BEFORE the first book, in time wise, which i thought was really interesting and such possibilities! I do admit i was hoping for Gabby and Clay to stop by in this book while they didn't Henry and Paul who i adore! did, so yay! Alright moving on from that, there was a bit more action i think in this book, some more suspense, it started off running and the pace was fantastic as always. A book that you can read and not even realize you have read like 100 pages is just good always. In the first quarter to the last quarter of the book there was a lot going on with the characters and not so much the outside world which again fine by me i loved reading about these characters. I am not sure how describe how Melissa does this so well but she does, its like a nice mixture of calm but also a bit suspenseful for the characters. There is a lot of times i notice in even series that i love that the books that are about different characters the plot line tends to be almost the same, and things vary, blah blah blah blah but the concept is the same, boy meets girl, girl meets boy, they "falll inn loooovvveee", girl gets attacked/kidnapped. And that is how the entire series goes with different characters, and as much as i love said series i am thinking of it kinda bothers me at the same time. Which is another reason to LOVE THIS SERIES! Because the first and second book are not the same stories being told with different characters. YAYYYYYY soo excited. :) so if you go into this thinking oh it will probably be the same as the last one well shame on you because its not! so plot = amazing again.
** I know in the last book and my review i mentioned how this book could work even for non-werewolf fans i think the same could be said about this one, while the wolves in this book are actually part of a pack and not Forlorn like Clay, the pack rules don't feel as "enforced" or being too pushy if that makes sense. But i do want to warn that they are actually part of a pack so there is a bit more of pack life in this one, not overwhelming really its not even that much.
Characters!
(I would just like to mention right now that I think i might be a little bit in love with you Melissa, its true. not only are you plot-lines awesome, but your characters, oh my god, how can i even describe how amazing they truly are? A-MAZING).
Michelle: Now I was pretty adamant that I would not like her as much as i liked Gabby, and in some aspects i suppose that might be true, but at the same time not. Here is the thing with Michelle, she is realistic, and for the life of me as much as i screamed at her knowing that Emmitt was a great guy that she should trust him she just didn't listen to me. Well as much as i want to be mad about this i don't know that i can be. Here's why: She is actually has absolutely no reason to trust anyone other than her two very much younger brothers. I get that Emmitt did help her a million times over and that she should trust him but i could understand where she was coming from so i don't think i am mad at her for that reason but i am slightly because i wanted to steal Emmitt from this book and keep him forever! (and for some reason all i can imagine when i say that is that he like this stuffed animal that i am crushing in hug...strange because that is not...umm...awkward lets leave that alone). But there were too many reason to love her to make me want to forget her hesitance towards Emmitt. I know this is probably going to shock you all, but Michelle was actually responsible, smart, unbelievably mature for her age, and i respected the shit out of her. Her brothers are five and four years old if i remember correctly. And she adopted role of mom almost immediately as their mother died shortly after having Aden the younger one. Her love and need to protect her brothers was outstanding and i had to remind myself that she was actually 19 alot of times that, also missed out on like four years of her life being held captive so logically she could be set in the age 15, but she didn't she matured quickly and became a loving mother. What she wouldn't do for those kids... like i said i respected the hell out of her. I think she had to be another one of my new favorites heroines/MCs she was truly amazing, and i do think this book is worth a read for just her.
Emmitt: (I have to speed this up because i have to leave for a work in a bit so i might come back to this and revise later but for now here we go)...I loved him, probably a i don't know i don't want to say more than Clay because i loved how innovative his character was, and i loved that for once it really wasn't about the words, but the actions. Anyways though Emmitt does speak i think it only enhances his character because i don't think he ever said anything wrong he just said Swoon worthy stuff that made my heart melt and me again planning on ripping him from the pages of this book and keeping him forever. He was amazing, again while we don't see much of his actions Jim tells us everything that he does and while i was in love with him the first moment he protects Michelle i fell in love with him over and over again in this book. i think i fell in love with him at least a 100 times if not more. probably more. he was protective, generous, so patient and sweet. I really loved him. And it was patient in a different way from Clay which i adored!
Jim: Who i mentioned is Emmitt's brother. I loved him he was a nice comic relief and he was unbelievably sweet too, so much mischief in this boy that i think he would have been fun to play with. He takes on the role of baby-sitter a lot which is fine by me because at least it was thought out that the boys would need someone else to look after them as well.
villains: awesome a hundred thumbs up, but i am not going to get into them because of a)time, b)spoilers.
Damn i hate being rushed but i do want to finish this review.
Ending: AMAZING. Do i want the next one, are you shitting me? of course i do, i seriously would be willing to read this over Melissa's shoulder as she was writing if a) that wasn't creepy as hell, b) well that would just be creepy for some many reasons and i don't like it when people read over my shoulder so i there assume everyone is the same as me so therefore no one else likes it.
Oh last thoughts: read this book, read this series, good? good.
Alright so i have a blog. i write reviews on indie book, don't be a bitch at least i mentioned it at the end here is the link this book will be going up as soon as i get home from work but wordpress and i hate each most of all the time so it takes forever to put a post up and i don't have enough time right now sorry! Nevermind its up :) http://theviolethourbookreviews.wordp...
I enjoyed this one much more than the first book. Maybe it was the fact I knew more about what was going on or maybe I just liked the story and characters more. We learn new things in each book, but basically there are six girls with different abilities, because of their specialness werewolves are attracted to them and are able to mate with them (they're not able to mate with regular humans. Dang it.) In the first book, Gabby was unsure what her talents were and how they worked. She figured out a little more by the end of the book. In this book, Michelle is more self aware, she may not know *why* she has her talent, but she is more comfortable with it and how it works. That is until her talent starts changing.
I thought this was an enjoyable story. Michelle and her two little brothers escaped from captivity and are on the run. They cross paths with Emmitt at an out of the way pit stop. He sees they are in need and offers his protection. Not having any other options, Michelle takes a risk to trust him and goes to stay with his family. Most of the book is spent with her time in hiding, which was okay with me. I liked seeing Michelle and Emmitt's relationship grow, he's so patient and kind. I loved how he gave Michelle time and space, but still made an effort to be with her. Then towards the end things start to pick up again and we learn a little more about Michelle and her captors.
Overall, this was a fun installment. Part of me thought it would have made a good first book, but it works well with the series and world building. If you enjoy a good Urban Fantasy I'd give this series a try. I'm excited to read the next book.
Content Romance: Clean, kissing and very mild innuendo Language: None (there may be one or two, can't remember) Violence: Mild, a kidnapping and mild werewolf fighting Other: Drinking, going to bars, etc. Religious: None
Another great installment to the Judgement of the Six (Although I think I liked the first one better). It took me a little while to get into this one. I thought we would be picking up the story where we left the previous one, but we actually went back in time. I was expecting Luke to be the hero, so when Emmitt showed up I was like, wait that's not right. But ya can't help but love him!
Overall, great story. I am excited to see what comes next and how everything ties together. The mystery of who the girls are and the curse Blake was talking about, definitely made things more interesting. Hopefully we will get to see more of the characters we had in the first and second books.
I liked this one a little less than book one and honestly, I can only blame the lack of the hero's wolfy moments xD
I really liked Emmit and Michelle together. They were so cute, that one couple that's always staring adoringly at each other ^_^ I didn't really think this about the first book but this time around I feel like I need to read the companion novel to find out what's going on in Emmit's head, which is absolutely bat shit crazy cause Clay never said a word pretty much the entire book.
At first when I started reading it I was a little irritated becaause I wanted to hear more of Gabby and Clay’s story. But Emmitt really started to grow on me. He was so conseiderate of her boundaries and giving her the space she needed. And this seems to be a theme for the series. The men are not agressive and forceful with the women but patient and understanding.
This book was a little bit more violent. Right from the beginning it was action and fear and running and helplessness. I feel like the author did a really good job of transporting me into Michelle’s emotions. I felt it when I was reading it. I was scared for the little boys. I have a child of my own so thinking about those things happening to my kid was very emotional for me.
I liked Emmitt, he was awesome. But I gotta say, I liked Jim (Emmitt’s brother) better. He was a little bit more playful than Emmit. Emmitt seemed to take everything seriously. And while thats a great trait to have when dealing with someone who was abused and held captive, Jim just brang the right amount of levity to bring it down a notch. It helped with the ebb and flow of the story.
One of the recurring issues I’m having with this series is that the women in it are quite young. The emotional maturity of these teenagers doesn’t really jive with me for the age that they are. I know that they have gone through intense situations which make you grow up faster but at the same time I had a hard time believing the age of these females. That was a little bit inconsistent for me but…for the most part this was par for the course book in this series.
I really, really loved this but I'm devastated that I didn't realise it was a clean romance! Yeah, yeah I'm a perve but I NEEDED them to get it on!
The hero, Emmitt, was so very swoony, and so so in love with the heroine, Michelle. It was just beautiful. Michelle was a great heroine. She was sweet and strong, and even though she had a million reasons not to trust anyone she wasn't the typical closed off YA heroine. I loved that. Their romance was slow building in a way but also not because they both knew they wanted each other from the very beginning. Emmitt was completely in love with her from the first moment he seen her, but their relationship grows at a lovely and believable pace. While Michelle was hesitant at times there was no push and pull which I really appreciated.
The side characters were great, I didn't even mind the children, usually bairns bug the hell out of me in books. Nana & Jim were just excellent. Jim brought a lot of humour to the story.
There were a few grammar mistakes but the story and characters were that enjoyable it's easy to overlook.
Although I liked Michelle MUCH more than the heroine in the first of this series, I still have trouble with the way she treats Emmitt. About half-way through the book, I'd had enough and decided to purchase Emmitt's story to see if I would like it any better. Yep! Reading them side by side made it SO much better!
I REALLY wish the author would have incorporated the separate POVs within the original story, however, rather than writing two separate books with the same storyline only told from the differing POVs. This way the reader not only has to pay double to get one full story but also has to re-read all the events each time just to understand the characters.
4.5/5 stars (RabidReads.com)Sometimes the second book in a series can be a real let down, not so with this book, sequel to Hope(less). Not only was I not let down, I could not put the book down until I finished, pretty much the same thing that happened while reading the first one. With this book, the author expanded on more of the werewolf culture in her world building, and also introduced us to another one of the special women. Women that seem to be linked to each other, and are the only human women that can mate with a werewolf successfully. So far, each woman has special abilities, otherwise known as a “gift”.
Michelle is nineteen and has been a prisoner in her home for the past four years. The reason? She is able to foretell the stock market, and an evil man(Blake) is keeping her there while using her information to become very rich. Also living in the house are her small brothers and her stepfather, Richard, who is now just a puppet for Blake. When Richard suddenly dies after leaving her money and important papers in an envelope, Michelle grabs the boys and runs away. Not really spoilers as it all happens in the first few pages. While on the road, and stopped at a diner, she is mesmerized by a guy eating there, and he is with her as well. But even so she leaves and gets caught by Blake’s men. The guy from the diner(Emmitt) helps her escape. This is the story of what happens both on the road, and after they finally get to Emmitt’s home.
I loved the main characters of Michelle and Emmitt. Michelle was mature beyond her years due to her imprisonment, and so loving towards her brothers. But she is also real, she gets tired of being around a toddler constantly, just like anyone would. She makes poor decisions at times, as we all do as well. She also has a classic too stupid to live moment closer to the end of the book. Yep, I was yelling at her. But my point is, she is not a cookie cutter character. Emmitt reminded me a lot of Clay from book one-but then they are both werewolves. Emmitt certainly talks a lot more than Clay, but he is also an extremely nice guy who just happens to have a furry secret. Nana Wini, an elder in the werewolf community, and also a resident at Emmitt’s home was quite the character. She’s like the bad ass grandmother with a cardigan on her shoulders and a werewolf inside that is way stronger and meaner than even Emmitt or his brother Jim. Jim was a fun character, and also resides in the home. He becomes the play toy for the children, even though he is an adult. He also is the instigator for trouble at times. Sam, Gabby’s guardian from book one, is also back this time around. This book takes place in the same time frame as the first book.
The premise of there being two different types of werewolves was really different. The fact that the werewolves are just now finding out about the Urbats and that there is a possibility that these special women could have a true mate within the werewolves and the Urbat community as well, made it even more unusual. Urbat’s aren’t exactly the friendliest of races to say the least. And they really want Michelle, among other things.
This book has an exciting story line with lots of action at times, interspersed with Emmitt and Michelle’s romance-which is much quieter. Any book that can make me stop everything else but reading, is one that I consider well written, and this book certainly fits into that category. It’s perfectly fine for older teens to adults. There is some talk of mating, but nothing explicit.
ON REREAD: 4.5 stars — I think I enjoyed this one even more the second time through. I’m not sure if it’s because I knew what to expect, or I was just in a great mood, but I was sucked into this one so fast. As I said in my original review, I really connected with Michelle, and I loved her combination of vulnerable and strong, sweet and sassy. She started off so fearful, but she has a super strong backbone.
The highlight for me is the way Jim and Emmitt brought the boys, Liam and Aden, out of their shells. The way they played with them and teased them….it was just so heart melting. Heck, I loved the way Jim and Emmitt interacted with each other, and even the exasperated way Nana Wini deals with them. They had such a perfect family bond, and I was so glad that Michelle and her brother’s got to be a part of that, even if there’s still danger.
Heck, the humour got me every time…because I loved Grey and Carlos too…yup, it was just fun times.
4.5 stars -- While I was a bit disappointed that we didn't get much followup on the events from the first book, I was at least warned after seeing Curly Carla's review, and there was a note before the book in the box set I am reading, so I was prepared for it. I will say that I am anxious to see Gabby and Michelle meet and learn even more about what is going on in the grand scheme of things, but that's only because we got a pretty good serving of some background in this book and I'm just excited for more.
Michelle was my kind of heroine. I'm not even sure what makes me gravitate towards her, but you could really feel her fear and understand her reactions based on the hand that was dealt to her. And I really liked that we got a bit more information about her past than we did with either Gabby or Clay. I still want to know where their father's are, though I'm starting to wonder if that's part of what makes the girls special. But we at least learned a little bit about what happened to Michelle's Mom and how the meetings with Blake started. I thought the way she cared for her family, and always thought of her brothers first was very authentic. I loved the way we saw how sheltered they were and how that affected them all. I thought in general her reactions to all the information she eventually learned about the werewolves and how she dealt with it was very realistic.
Emmitt was adorable. He was strong, steady, conscientious, and faithful. I loved the way he handled Michelle, trying not to scare her, but trying to protect her and the boys at the same time. Looks like I will definitely be sucking up the cost and reading his POV next. While I love alternative POV books, it's hard to pay full price knowing we'll be getting a lot of repeat. But at the same time I want more Emmitt. It's a rough life right?
I adored Emmitt's brother Jim in this one. He and Nana Wini provided such a great family for Michelle and her brothers, and I LOVED the way Jim and Emmitt would play with and take care of the boys and show them what real life could be like.
I loved that we got to learn a bit more about what these other kinds of werewolves are, the Urbat, and I look forward to even more revelations in the books to come. It was enough to whet my appetite but keep me wanting to come back for more. I'm really intrigued about Elder Joshua, and I found it fascinating how much Sam and the other elders and ack knew about these other kinds before Gabby even started questioning them. That was something I hadn't expected.
All in all it had a sweet romance, great characters, some fantastic action, mystery, suspense, and kept me wanting to read more. Looks like this is a winning series for me so far!
I would NOT recommend this series to any of my clean romance followers.
Y’all. I don’t even know where to start with this one. I don’t want to say anything and give it all away! This book starts six months before Hope(less) and, while reading, I kept wondering why this book wasn’t the first in the series. But the more I read, the more I realized if it would have been first, Gabby’s book wouldn’t really have that good of a storyline since you learn so much more about the sisters in this book.
I was blown away by Michelle’s strength, courage and determination to keep her little brothers, Liam and Aden, safe. She knew that in order to keep them safe and with her, she needed to find someone to help them. But because of being mistreated by every single male she's met, she has an extremely hard time trusting anyone.
Enter Emmitt. He may be male, and he may be a werewolf, but there’s just something about him that draws him and Michelle together. He can tell she’s had a hard life and he wants to help her more than anything, but he will have to be patient and prove to her that she can trust him, his brother, Jim, and Nana Wini.
Jim and Nana Wini were an added bonus to the story. Their relationship with the boys was fun to watch. I will admit that I laughed out loud a few times with all the little antics that happened throughout the book. There’s never a dull moment with Jim around! 😂 I also loved seeing how protective they all were over Michelle, Liam and Aden.
I’m not going to lie, I enjoyed (Mis)fortune a lot more than Hope(less). I stayed up way to late reading and woke up super early because I just had to know what happened next! My original plan was to pull an all-nighter but after my kindle hit me in the face for the 4th time, I decided that a little bit of sleep couldn’t hurt. Haha.
I’m really enjoying this series. To say I’m intrigued would be an understatement. I’m ready to dive into (Un)wise! Bring on Luke’s story!
Content: Very mild language. Mild violence. Swoony kisses.
Let me start by saying that I loved that the heroine in this book was not “perfect.” I have been getting so sick of these “perfect” heroines in every YA/NA book.
Michelle is left to take care of her two little brothers. I love that she stresses and is exhausted and admits to needing a break from her two little brothers after spending all day with them. Those of us with kids can relate. Those scenes with the brothers and the needing to unwind were real. Every care taker and/or parent knows it is hard sometimes to be with your kids all day and night without a minute to yourself. So I was happy that the author made the character real.
The first 15% of the book was awesome!! It was intense with the action and Michelle’s first meeting with Emmett. I could not put the book down when I was reading the first few chapters.
Melissa Haag did a great job making me like paranormal werewolves.
Did I skim? No.
Did I feel connected to the characters? Yes. I liked Michelle and Emmitt.
Pace of the story: Good, only I think that some things could have omitted. There were times when I was like “okay, let’s get moving.”
Positives: Great story. This is a great series which I am excited to read book #3. Also, I am glad that the heroine did not wait until the last 5% of the story to admit her feelings for Emmitt. I would like the next heroine to not be so hesitant about her relationship through majority of the book. I don’t want there to be insta-love, but it can get tiresome when the heroine constantly questions every aspect of the relationship.
Negatives: I got frustrated sometimes with all the inner dialogue. I think some things could have been omitted or shortened. Some parts when into great detail, like breakfast menus.
Do I recommend? Yes, Melissa Haag is a great writer. Also, I think it is important that this series be read in order.
Book Format Read: A copy of the book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
(Mis)fortune by Melissa Haag Judgment of the Six # 2
(Mis)fortune is the second installment in the Judgment of the Six series by Melissa Haag. This series is one of my favorite NA paranormal series. I was blown away with the first book in the series Hope(less) and the addition to the series did not let me down.
In starting off this book I hoped Ms. Haag would pick up where the last book left off with. *Spolier Alert* ***Gabby giving Luke a hint of his mate*** But this book took a whole new direction with a new set of characters. Usually I don’t like series that don’t follow the previous books characters.
Ms. Haag set up Luke’s story so nicely when I dove in I was a little confused until I started reading. After the first few chapters things fell into place and the plot was set up nicely. This book almost felt like a prequel and the back-story would have been nice to have before book one, but nevertheless I loved this book and the series!
The plot in this book gives us more info on the “six” and the special abilities they have (each one is different). The romance is also so sweet and hot at the same time. Melissa has an extraordinary writing style and I can say that I would read her children’s school excuses. Seriously, that’s how good she is.
The characters are so raw, flawed and beautiful. And I fell in love with Emmitt. Can we say tall, scary, and sexy as hell? I also loved the comic relief of Jim who really needs his own book. I know he probably doesn’t have anything to do with the six, but I really like him. The way he took the boys as his own made me love him more.
This series is really coming together and I can’t wait to see where the next chapter takes us! Melissa takes paranormal romance to the next level.

A special Thanks to Melissa Haag for sharing her GREAT new series with me!!!!
I absolutely loved the way this book started out. Strong damsel in a hopeless situation, knight in shining armour who was clearly a good guy and so likeable. Many things to love but once again the pace was off. Some points dragged and others didn't seem to have a point. I didn't like Michelle as much as the others but she was still a sweetheart. Loved her mate Emmitt and his brother Jim! Totally appreciated the epilogue! Too many useless details and lack of clear direction at points. Clean read. Plenty of good characters to offset the bad which makes me happy.
Melissa Haag Weaves a world of pure magic! (Mis)fortune is a Sexy suspenseful thrill ride full of sweet slow burn romance! I Loved every delicious page!!!!
Michelle is Brave beautiful and spunky I totally love her she had me lol like crazy!
Emmitt is a Tall Dark N Swoon worthy wolf! Devilishly funny and sweet.. it was so cute how he would pick Michelle up in his arms like she's his little porcelain doll! His mischievous brother Jim was so much fun I really hope he gets his own book!
I Need more Emmitt & Michelle Can't wait for Emmitt's Treasure (Mis)fortune from Emmitt's POV!!!!
I read this whole book within like two or three days. I was really excited because I quite enjoyed the first book, however, this one was a bust. It was honestly just really boring. More should have and could have happened, everything was really slow... It just wasn't very entertaining. I'm going to continue on with the series though in the hope that the next book is better. I hope it will be!
So. Although book 1 wasn't captivating I immediately dove right into book 2. Don't really know why, kinda regret it. Perhaps because I was up for a little more paranormal romance, perhaps because I thought "Go force yourself throughh another mediocre, boring teeny book". We'll never know.
So overall there is one word that describes the book best: boring. The plot was boring, the characters were boring, everything was boring. The idea and writing in itself were nice, but not written memorable. Where in the first book I found the character building of the male lead at least entertaining, although he says like one sentence throughout the book - this one in the second book was simply only forgettable. Who would like and remember that dull boot?
So everything was a little meh. The book was nice and easy to read, didn't take look, but all in all I think I will have forgotten like ... everything ... about it within the next two days. There is a possibility that I will read the next one, since I already have it on my kindle, but that would be more a (how do you say that i english?) bridging read.
I read this series back in 2014, when I wasn't on goodreads. So it never got rated.
Basically this series is about six human woman, who have different special talents and don't what they are useful for. On the other hand there are werwolves. Kind of two different species of werwolves, one are the good one and one the bad ones. Both groups has people who are compatible with those human women. For each woman two guys to choose from.
Charlene was the first one found. We do not know her story. In Hope(less) the first book of this series we read about Gabby's story. In (Mis)fortune the second book of the story we follow Michelle and Emmitt's story.
Michelle had a loving mother. Her mother remarried and had two sons, Liam and Aden. Before Aden was born the stepfather brought Blake to his house. Michelle's mother didn't like him and she died mysteriously. Blake took over. He ruled Michelle's live. Blackmailed her by threatening her brothers lifes and made them suffer if she did things wrong. Finally Blake kills her Stepdad but not before the Stepdad told her to take an envelope he had hidden and run. She ran taking the kid brothers with her. On the run she meets Emmitt, who takes her to his apartment building, where Jim (his brother) and Nana Wini are staying too. She gets to know them but when Emmitt reveals his secret, that he is a werewolf, she freaks. She stays and slowly starts to trust them.
This is Michelle and Emmitt's love story. Michelle is Prosperity, because she can predict the share market and sharing this information makes people rich.
I know I said I'd put this series on pause... I Lied! I couldn't find a good read so I went ahead and continue this series - glad I did too. Now I'm hooked.
Don't know if I like this book more than the first. Both gifted girls were annoying to deal with. But their inexperience and openness to others opinions made it bearable. Also not forgetting their yummy furred halves.
The mystery of the judgementals is slowly unraveling. I still want to hit someone in the book though. Book one, we met Gabby who was obsessed with being independent and the likes. Now entered Michelle, an emotionally wrecked teen who's paranoid. Because of her messed up childhood, she makes annoying and reckless decisions. Her whining was pushing me closer to the cliff's edge. Ugh!
Also, I smell a trend here. So far the girls are at least 7 years younger than the guys. Don't know how I feel about that. Hmmm... I guess the guys' sexiness made it more bearable (not!).
Let's not forget the fact that these girls have confusing gifts. I don't see how their abilities play into this series but I'll keep on reading. I hope Jim gets one of the gifted girls in the next book.
My friend KJ (KJ's Book Nook) is currently re-reading this series, so we've been discussing it a bit and I decided to read this one again since I've been in the mood for a werewolf story! I also realized I didn't review this one the first time I read it.
I had completely forgotten the story, so it was like reading this for the first time. I don't think I enjoyed it quite as much this second time around. Michelle just seemed really immature to me, but I did like the overall idea for the story. Michelle has been held captive with her two little brothers for about four years. She is able to escape and is taken in by Emmitt and his brother. I liked the setting, the werewolf aspect and again the overall story, but found myself a tad bored and just wasnt connecting to Michelle this time around. A fun read if you're looking for a quick werewolf story.

I loved this book! I love werewolf books and this is one of my favorite stores so far. I love Michelle so much and I love how protective she is of her brothers. I love that she eventually trusts Jim and Emmitt enough to leave the boys with them. I loved Emmitt and how he loved Michelle from the beginning and how he helped her escape from her part. I hate that they keep hunting her and won't give up. I was glad they finally got together and did the Claiming ceremony. Overall an amazing book! 10 stars

Ok. So I’m starting to get some answers and understand this fictional world. This book was just as engrossing as the first one. But I still don’t know how to describe this series. It’s weird but I’m enjoying it.
Melissa Haag contacted me giving me the joyful news that her second book in the Judgement of Six series was available and, in exchange for a free copy of her book, she would like it if I would give an honest review of her book. I replied to her with a calm email saying that it would be my pleasure. I hope that email didn't show how absolutely EXCITED I was to do just that: read her book that I had been waiting for, and post about it!
So, lets get started. Let me start off this review by warning all of those Hope(less) fans out there that (Mis)fortune does not follow the same plot line. I was aware of this ahead of schedule so I wasn't too disappointed although I do like it a bit better when we get to follow the same people throughout a series. No, this story takes place following the life of Michelle who has the unique gift of getting premonitions about the stock market, and for most of her life, she only has premonitions about the stock market. This is what has drawn me into the Judgement of Six series so much, Melissa Haag creates these interesting characters that posses unique abilities that you probably haven't even thought of before. Her creativity may be my favourite part about her writing.
Anyways, back on track. (Mis)fortune takes place mostly before Hope(less) and ends about midway through the Hope(less) story line. As a whole, the story only had two problems in my eyes. 1) I felt that a lot of detail was unnecessary. I found myself skipping some description paragraphs (often to do with breakfast... there was a lot of breakfasts in this story) to try and get to the point. It slowed the plot down a little bit, but the plot itself was so addicting, I didn't mind it too much. It creative suspense... in a frustrating kind of way. 2) I found it extremely weird that she wasnt carded... anywhere. I get that she looks older than 19, but she goes to pubs and gets wasted and no one looks twice... or even once... at any ID... I don't think that would actually happen.
Now lets talk about the good parts! In (Mis)fortune we finally get to see more depth into the story. With Hope(less), it was more of a love story with a bit of a cliff hanger as to whats really going on in the supernatural world. In (Mis)fortune, you get to learn and understand SO much more and finally get a grasp on what is going on long term plot wise. This excited me so much. If we got this much from book two, I can't wait until book 3. I also loved how (Mis)fortune focused more on Michelle's ability. I found that was a major lacking in Hope(less) and I am glad that Melissa added more of the supernatural into her second instalment. It really added to the story. Lastly, I like how we got a sneak peek into all of the other girls lives. We have a glimpse of what there abilities are and how they are living, and even though it is only a small glance, it really sets up the future novels. I can't wait!
Overall, I give this book high praises. THe bad DEFINITLEY didnt outweigh the good in any aspect and the bad things were really nit picky preference things for me as a reader. Melissa is an amazing writer that manages to captivate her audience and write the most unique stories. Beautiful. Simple Beautiful. 10/10 and an A for you Melissa!
Can I say that I might be a little obsessed with Melissa Haag after reading the books she has published in this series so far? I picked the first book up out of review submissions a couple months ago, because I needed a little paranormal/shifter fix and a break from reality. I absolutely did not get what I expected. Usually when I pick something out of submissions, I get a moderately entertaining read and discover some awesome author potential. This time, I was blown away and found myself with a book hangover, shaking for my next fix. The characters have stayed with me for weeks after reading both of these books. And I have no doubt, I will be reading them again before the next in series comes out.
The amount of thought and calculation put into this series is outstanding. You can tell that she already has the entire series plotted out and strings you along with little “ah ha!” moments throughout each storyline. There will be a total of six books, obviously, each book featuring a new “couple”, which is my absolute favorite way to follow a series. The female characters so far are strong, still with feminine weakness, but also determined in an “I will overcome” way. The male characters are so sweet, swoony and pig headed that I get a little jealous. I mean really, who doesn’t want a pig headed guy/werewolf chasing after them?
There are basically two paranormal elements in this series. The obvious on is shifter/werewolf aspect. The other is that the six female counterparts to these male shifters have a supernatural ability themselves, each one different and yet their abilities, I can tell, will end up intertwining. Now, this is a little confusing to figure out at first, but don’t worry, just keep reading, the more you read, the easier it comes. It is truly fascinating and I can’t wait to see how it will all play into each other in the end.
Yes, I am supposed to be reviewing (Mis)fortune and here I am talking about the series in general. So, you want to know what I thought of (Mis)fortune? I LOVED it. Freaking LOVED it. The first was really good, the 2nd was even better. With the 2nd book in series, a lot of the introduction to the “world” is complete and we get to enjoy and discover more about that world. The supernatural elements start to make more sense and it is exciting to start to see the “judgment of six” come into play.
Michelle and Emmit’s story is sweet, slow-building with aching sexual tension like no other. Holy cow, I just wanted to shove those two into each other, but it was perfect! Melissa is SO good at building that tension up, making it sexy without selling out to the descriptive sexed up books that are so popular right now. Not gonna lie, like those too, but that delicious anticipation is the ace up Melissa’s sleeve and it is SO addictive.
I don’t like to get into details of plots, because I think that is half the fun of reading. I’ll let you discover that on your own. But, I will say, back off ladies, Jim is mine. He better get a book and I better have the starring role. Call me Melissa, I’m available, just don’t tell my husband. :P
Wowzah!! I loved book 2 of the Judgment of the Six series even more than book 1! Wasn't expecting that. Took me a while to get around to it, but I'm so glad I finally found the time! Ms. Haag does not disappoint.
Michelle is a fierce, spitfire with a protective side. For years she has been kept in the dark about the "people" around her, but after one dinner goes especially awry, Michelle learns that there is more to those around her than she was given to understand.
With the help of Michelle step-father, she and her brothers run for their lives, being pursued by creatures that Michelle never could have imagined. While running, she find safe haven with an unlikely traveler. With his help, she and her brothers begin their new lives, safe for perhaps the first time in their lives. But there is more to her charming knight than meets the eye.
Michelle comes to many revelations throughout this book that will change her life forever. And with these revelations come some much-needed answers and yet even MORE questions about this new group of werewolves that appear to be popping up everywhere they go.
Also becoming unraveled is the terrible game that these gifted women have become caught up in. What is their purpose for being born? What to the Urbat want with them? How did the Urbat come upon their information on these mystery women? These questions and so much more I hope to find answers to in the upcoming books in this radical series.
I have always had a thing for book series or trilogy’s. I almost never read a standalone book, because I get so caught up in the characters and the worlds the author’s create. I just want more and more, the best part is. Not only does the story grow the more the you read, but the author grows as well. Even if they are Best Selling Authors, they didn’t get there over night.
Even though I wanted to see more of Gabby and Clay in this book, I was happy to read about Michelle. She is a very strong character, not only does she need to protect herself. She needs to protect her brothers, she needs to find a way to stop Blake. Even if that means she has to trust someone that is a stranger. Her trust nor her love comes easy, she is going to fight for the one she loves. To make sure that no one will hurt them. No one will take away their freedom again.
Main thing I like about Melissa Haag, is she writes these strong female characters. If I could, I would pick and pick at Haag’s mind to learn everything I can about this world she has written about. But since I can’t do that, I will settle to reading everything I can get my hands on. I seriously need to get my own copies of these books, so I can reread them as much as want.
Holy Hannah!! I have never been so involved in a story like I am with this series. So many complicated aspects told so beautifully by the author. I'm definitely a loyal follower now. Michelle is another gifted woman in this fantastic series. She is protecting her brothers and finding herself surrounded by a world that wants the worst from her. But she doesn't know what is actually happening until it's almost too late. Emmit... what can I say about Emmitt. Perfect timing, perfect in every way. He protects her and helps her in more than just keeping her safe from harm. His family is so awesome and the way the story plays out just had me smiling constantly. These two as a couple are so much more than two people who fell in love. I can't wait to read Emmitt's POV coming in just days! He is right up there with Clay. And so many questions are being answered and as the story evolves I just know I'm going to be sucked in more than I already am. It's exciting and intense and sweet and spicy. This series has everything! What is going to happen to these women? What is going to change in the Werewolf world? I'm intrigued!! If you haven't started this series... do it now!!
I felt like this should have been book #1 instead of 2. I like that the story is still developing but I wish I knew what happened to luke! Maybe that's the next book. I Really like the characters in these books. On to book 3.
