I had some small issues with this one at the beginning but it was so compelling and twisty that they didn’t end up detracting from the whole. Sometimes in a book, I can ignore some missing background information, but when it keeps coming to mind that if it were real life, something could never happen like it is portrayed, then it begins to bother me. This is a retelling of Anastasia, a story reminiscent of My Fair Lady, where a con man is trying to pass off an i

This came incredibly close to being a DNF for me. It just took far too long to get into the actual meat of the story and pick up pace. In fact I must have skim read/totally skipped at least a third of this book, and probably getting on for more like 40% of it. And I didn't really miss anything important. It was only cat killing curiosity and a couple of 3 star reviews mentioning the great ending, that had me bothering to read the last third. And that last third was amazing.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit and was excited to read this as its a contemporary retelling of one mine and my daughter's favourite films Anastasia.
Loosely based on the story of the tragic Romanov's this by-line captured my imagination and attention instantly.
This really was a fascinating web of intrigue and mystery with threads entangled so deeply it all seemed to be built on an empire of misdirections and half-truths.

Omg what can I say besides this woman is evil! She messed up my whole world with this book! This is a dark retelling of Anastasia and boy do I mean dark and twisty!!! It took so many twisted turns that the number 6 and pennies will never be the same! I legit dreamed about counting after finishing this book! Cora Kenborn is an evil genius when it comes to writing dark and twisted books! If you are looking for a good dark and twisty book! Read this! I bow down to Cora Kenbor

I actually haven't read an Anastasia retelling before and I think Cora Kenborn did a beautiful job with it! This story was dark and twisted and utterly heart breaking... and sweet? Kenborn illustrated what some may see as the ugly and unseemly underbelly of life in Hollywood. As they say... not all that glitters is gold. Honestly, with how shattered and confused this story made me feel, I was startled by the warmth and kindness that blossomed amidst the depravity.

Reading Starlet I was wondering why did I have to go through that and wait for after 40% of the story so that my interest would be intrigued????
If I can not get invested in a story from the start there is no reason for giving myself a hard time... Dnf @ 28%

Starlet by Cora Kenborn is definitely not a fairytale. This is a vicious and mindblowing attack on my heart and soul. This is the torturing, dark, depraved and twisted journey through sins and salvation. This unique story left me in a mess of emotions!

Angel Smith needs money to move from the hellish job as waitress in a dingy bar in Chula Vista. Dominic McCallum needs money to get back his once hugely successful news outlet Behind The News from bankruptcy after Hollywood's king came after him fo

Starlet takes us on a journey through the dark underbelly of Hollywood, where secrets are currency and the truth is a dirty word. This book consumed me, grabbing me from the first page, shaking the heck out of me and I still don’t think I’ve fully recovered!!

The wit and pace of Cora Kenborn’s writing is a joy to experience. It just seems to leap off the pages, tugging smiles and producing tears when you least expect it. The characters are haunted, intelligent and multi-faceted. The story was br

Starlet blew my mind.

I'll admit, I went into this book with HIGH expectations. It was on my "looking forward to" list for 2020, and Cora Kenborn did not disappoint me. Actually, she completely obliterated my expectations and left me speechless.

This is a dark retelling of Anastasia which is one of my favorite historical tales (see notes above about high expectations). Cora took the story and twisted into a tale of Hollywood decadence, underscored it with a heavy dose of mystery, and sprinkled a s

Truly a MASTERPIECE by Cora Kenborn.

Without spoilers (since you need to unwind this dark, deliciousness yourself,) STARLET is way beyond a good summer read and one of, if not my favorite books of all time! The lead characters, Dominic and Angel, breathlessly

You know when you start a book and can just feel it in your heart, your bones, your soul, that it will be epic? Well, Starlet is that book. I don’t even know where to begin with my review to bring this book the justice it deserves and not give away any spoilers. Dominic and Angel are my new power couple, who will forever be in my world. This story takes you on such a dark, twisty, unbelievable ride of which you never want to end. It made me emotional, and I loved every minute of it.

This was a new to me author that I've been excited to try as I have heard many good things about, and even from just the blurb and the trigger warning, I could already tell why. I was instantly hooked by this book, trying to figure out hidden answers in confusing statements.

I was puzzled and second guessing my guesses from page to page and the further I got I realized how skilled this author is and I probably won't find out the full picture till the end of the book. Although I don't normally li

A modern day retelling of Anastasia with all the hoopla that comes with finding the ‘lost heir’?

Sure, I’m down and I have to say that I really enjoyed how the author brought it to life in modern day Hollywood, where power is everything and there are more than enough people willing to do anything to get and maintain it.

I really liked Angel and Dominic. Both have lived hard lives and still are. Angel, for all that she’s been through, has a good heart and with a moral compass that

Wow! Just wow, is all that I have to say at the moment. This book wasn't what I expected at all. This author seems to have the ability to blindside you with her stories and make you look at things so differently. It makes you second guess your views. It makes you see situation differently. Her books aren't simple stories and the love stories in them, aren't always easy.

Now I really don't want to say anything in respects of the story, the characters or the outcome. The blurb gives as much aw

Cora Kenborn hit the jackpot with this skillfully composed spin, laying down a killer storyline and riveting plot, making Scarlet one dynamic book. Let me just say her characters Angel and Dominic will have you hooked in an instant and take you along on a journey you will not soon forget. Dark, emotional (tissues needed), and so much more. Kenborn’s writing is crisp and refreshing, mixing in just the right amount of tension with non-stop action. I found myself stopping at the end of each chapter ...more

A story that truly kept me on my toes! Starlet is a dark retelling of Anastasia, and it was a tale that I was unfamiliar with. I fully submerged into the intrigue and angst of the story, quickly connecting with both Angel and Dominic.

There was occasions where I did start to question threads of the storyline and kept thinking there is no way they’d get away with the plan to fool millions, but Cora Kenborn had it all under control and weaved a story full of suspense and genius twists, that by the

The story of Dominic and Angel in the sinister retelling of Anastasia.
Usually I have so much to say about Cora Kenborns books but this, this one completely stumped me. I’m lost for words at how amazing this book is. I literally spent the whole day reading and refused to stop until I read those infamous words ‘the end.’

5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for this Starlet.

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a Star? Then Starlet is a story where the phrase 'Be Careful What You Wish For' is very apt. This story delves into the Sinister side of Hollywood where the streets aren't always paved with gold.

Starlet is a retelling of the story Anastasia, and I have to say that the author made this story her own. This story broke me. It takes so much to actually make me cry from a book, however, Ms. Kenborn evoked that emotion from me not once, but twice. The story of Dominic and Angel is breatht

You know when a book is that good you can’t and don’t want to put it down or to end. This is the exact thing that happened to me whilst reading Starlet.

As I started to read Starlet it was reminiscent to me of Blurred Red Lines - sassy bartender girl and strong ruthless dude in a bar but that’s where the similarities ended. The connection between Angelina and Dominic was instant - fizzing away like a live wire. She was a strong girl, oozing, sarcasm, wit and sass - He a dark brooding, arrogant dude.

Starlet is a dark, twisted and intricate story that was submerged in webs of deceit, with twists and turns aplenty. Some parts of the storyline had

Holy book hangover! I don’t know if I’ll ever be over this one.

It is so rare for a book to leave me stunned.. and bravo to Cora for leaving me absolutely speechless.
