MONTGOMERY TELLS THE STORY OF A SPIRITUAL HEALER

Ruth Shick Montgomery (1912-2001) was a journalist and syndicated columnist in Washington, DC., who later became a psychic who wrote a number of metaphysical books (sometimes through ‘automatic writing’), and claimed that she could communicate with medium Arthur Ford after his death.

She wrote in the Foreword to this 1973 book, “This is an age of seeming miracles… .This is an age when churches and other spiritually oriented organizations are increasingly seeking to revive the Biblical ‘laying on of hands.’… This book is about a different kind of healer. He has no medical diploma, nor does he correct ailments simply by calling on God to ‘heal this man.’ He works by recharging and revitalizing what he calls the human magnetic field, or master brain, which distributes energy to all part and functions of the body… In ‘A Search for the Truth’ I included a chapter … which told of the seemingly miraculous healings performed by this man, whom I called Mr. A to protect his privacy… In this book, Mr. A’s theories and methods will be discussed at length and illustrated by many case histories.” (Pg. 13-16)

She acknowledges, “Mr. A is the first to admit that not all his cases have been unqualified successes. Often this is because his patients, after one or two treatments, experience immediate relief, and some of them consequently fail to return. Although he knows that without further application of the energy they will not progress, he does not pursue anyone… The people who come to him must make their own decision about returning.” (Pg. 28)

Eventually, Mr. A. was taken to trial to determine whether he had ‘violated the Fair Trades Act under which the California Medical Association operated.’ She recounts, “Ken Masters, attorney for the state, made clear the prosecution did not question what Mr. A could do for people and was not in any way challenging the benefits his patients received from his treatments. (This, of course, was to avoid introduction of the testimonials and witnesses who would tell of hie healings.) The question at issue, Masters said, was whether he was practicing medicine without a proper license from the State Medical Board, and accepting money for his services.” (Pg. 113) Ultimately, “The jury was out for only twenty minutes. The unanimous verdict was ‘acquittal,’ and newspapers reported the outcome in front-page banner headlines.” (Pg. 118)

She admits, “Mr. A does not pretend that his method is infallible. In fact, he says his normal batting average is about nine out of ten. In many cases, success depends on patients following through , because after a few treatments they feel much better and may consider themselves well. This is their own decision, since Mr. A leaves whether they return entirely up to them.” (Pg. 175)

She records, “I asked Mr. A about religion, and he replied, ‘My instructions is that the church is within. Each person is responsible to the Power of Powers through the Law of Average. The highest universal wealth is to be contented and to be at peace with yourself. The more contented one is, the more relaxed, and the more the mind can then tune to draw wisdom from the magnetic Ring and the Power of Powers. And the more wisdom one has, the easier life is, because what people understand they do not fear. Wisdom you are born with, education you must acquire. Wisdom can be dampened and distorted by education. Unless we have a clear field at birth, or unless the birth shock is released, we must rely solely on education.’ Questioned about the biblical heaven and hell, Mr. A said, ‘From what I get from the Powers, heaven and hell are right here while we’re living. I’m told that one out of every ten people are born go give the other nine trouble, but if we have the wisdom to recognize them we can sidestep the troublemakers.’” (Pg. 218)

She concludes, “Our forefathers would have told us to stop daydreaming, if we had chattered about the possibility of American men walking on the moon and of picture tubes in our houses. Should we, then, similarly dismiss as idle chatter the seemingly miraculous wonders performed by this man who automatically comprehends the so-called mysteries of the universe and who was apparently born to heal?” (Pg. 224)

Montgomery revealed in the Foreword to her book, ‘A Search for the Truth,’ that ‘Mr. A’ was “William Gray of Berkeley, California, [who] has also more recently passed on to the next phase of eternal life.” He was born “around the end of the 19th century and died in the early 1970’s.” He wrote the book, “Know Your Magnetic Field.”

This book will be of interest to those studying spiritual forms of healing.

An impressive account of the energy that Mr. A used to heal many who had the fortune to meet him. It amazes me to hear about another man besides Bruno Groning who had the wonderful ability to heal many with their God given miraculous energy.
