I write contemporary and dark romance. My characters always end happily, but I love writing real characters that are flawed. Their journeys are sometimes hard to read, and the path to finding their HEA can be a little rough but in the end it’s always worth it.

This was a great debut novel, and the author seems to be a person of the real world…DIVERSE!

This story is about infidelity and second chances. I know cheating is a serious trigger for many romance readers. It hasn’t been for me. Mostly because the stories I’ve read were either OTT telenovela-esque or because the person(s) cheating were the wronged party. This story, however, more than niggled at my pissed off button. Why? Because this brilliant author made it “real”. I felt for the heroine. She was wronged. And even with all the groveling the hero did (and the man did grovel), I still didn’t think he deserved her. I didn’t dislike him. He wasn’t a bad guy. He made a mistake, but there wasn’t enough quality couple time to make me believe the hero was worth forgiving…yet and that the heroine really got over her pain…yet. There was too much telling and not enough showing of this couple working through the issues that caused the ultimate betrayal and break up. Hence my reason for the 3.5-star rating.

Wow! What an emotional ride! This is one angsty story and I can’t believe this is Ms. Granberry’s debut novel!

description

Sinclair unwillingly returns to Las Vegas, a place where she experienced the truest form of love and then the most devastating lash of heartache. It’s been four years since she saw the man responsible for both, but Vegas is a well populated city and the odds are she won’t run into Jacob Johnson. Unfortunately, the odds aren’t in her favor. When her initial reaction doesn’t play well to the public, she finds herself once more in Jake’s presence and this time he’s playing to win.

Jake once had everything his heart desired, but insecurities and long separations had him making a decision that had unforgivable repercussions. Now, with Sin’s return, he’s determined to amend the wrongs of the past but in order to do so he has to tear down the walls that she’s constructed around her heart. Convincing her to speak to him, much less spend time with him, is an obstacle he sets out to overcome.

description

This couple were incredible! With flashbacks of their time together we see the all-consuming need Jake had to make Sin his own, the love these two shared, the struggles they experienced and then the deepest cut to their relationship. Written with such depth and intensity, the emotions these characters felt enveloped me from the first chapter until the very last page, showering me in all their brokenness, giving me glimpses of hope before snatching them away again. I wasn’t sure if I could survive until the end.

description

Dealing with a touchy subject to many readers, and something I usually steer clear of, I nonetheless shored myself up and continued on. I would have liked a bit more foundation for the reasons Jake made the decision he did. It was hinted at but never fully developed and I personally needed to see the deconstruction of their relationship that would lead him to the step he took.

”The opposite of love is not hate. Love and hate take the same kind of time. The same devotion. It’s not over until the indifference kicks in.”

Everything else about this book was exceptional! The pace was steady and never repetitive, the writing sharp and clear, and the heat level - Kindle melting good. Secondary characters were essential to the story and I wouldn’t mind seeing some of them get their own book. This ends with an epilogue that gave us a look at this couple in the future, but I must admit, I wanted it to be much longer. But then again, I’m that reader that believes you can never have too long of an epilogue or too many of them.

Overall, I highly recommend this book if heavy angst and second chances are your thing!

Wow! This book is good. A really delicious good. I am surprise this is a debut novel. The story is about second chance romance. Jacob broke Sinclair's heart when they were in college. Since then, both of them moving on with a tattered heart. Focusing on their career, their fate bring them together.

It is a beautiful story. I like the writing style. It takes us back and forth between past and now. Told from dual POV, they finally falls back into love.

I have a tiny problem with Sinclair. It takes her forever to forgive Jacob. And the author does not really giving us depth reason why she takes forever to forgive him.

Overall I do enjoy this book very much.

I NEVER buy books based on reviews and I NEVER buy books from authors I'm not familiar with. I tend to stick with authors I know. But, something about this book really drew me in. The reviews were pretty good so, I threw caution to the wind and bought it. Best decision ever! Exquisitely Broken was soooooooooo good! I loved everything about this book. The plot, the characters, and even the book cover. I absolutely adored Sinclair and Jacob. I just loved how Jacob fought so hard to get Sinclair back. I also loved that Sinclair was a black female rock star. Oh, and the narrators did a phenomenal job with the characters. I think I fell a little bit in love with Jakobi Diem. Lawd, that man has a voice on him! This book gets 5 stars and 2 thumbs up from me!

I so desperately wanted to give this book 5 stars because of the stellar writing (especially a debut author... wow, just wow) but this book has one of my hard limits and as much as I tried to move past it, I just couldn’t.

Sinclair James and Jacob Johnson once had something special but Jake messed up and Sin left. Fast forward 4 years and Sin is now a rock star with a huge following and has just signed a residency deal with a hotel in Vegas. The hotel turning out to be the one where Jake is the CFO. Jake knows he messed up big time and he let his other half walk away. He is not making the same mistake again but things don’t go as planned with their reunion. Sin is shocked at seeing Jake and still devastated after so many years. She has a lapse in judgement and their are consequences to her actions. Jake won’t let that deter him in winning back the girl of his dreams.

What made me angry was the fact that although Jake was remorseful, he still thought it wasn’t such a big deal and Sin shouldn’t have walked away. I find that illogical. I would hate the sight of him especially after he threw six years away because of his insecurities. He just expected Sin to forgive him once he saw her again.

Although I did get angry at the characters, this book read like an experienced author has written it. I was beyond amazed.

Two names that will compel me to one click an audio faster than lightning is Lacy Laurel & Jakobi Diem! Their voices separately is awesome, but together—damn. I wasna ready.

What a debut story this was for M. Jay Granberry!! She’s such a talented writer! This book was so good. Second chance romance with suspense and hotness. Yes, please! I love stories starring Black female rockstars!! I need more of those in my life! I can’t wait to continue on in this series. Bravo, M.Jay!!!

🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱

S-N-O-O-Z-E-F-E-S-T.

I cant’t believe how little angst this book with so much angst potential actually had!

Caught-in-the-act-cheating? ✅
Evil OW (both whorebag friend and H’s mama)? ✅
Googly-eyed, disheveled stalker?✅
Terrible childhood being shuttled around from foster homer to foster home? ✅
A shooting? ✅
Hot foster brother? ✅
Hot Smex at all times?✅
Rock band? ✅

Yup. All of that. And still an effing S-N-O-O-Z-E-F-E-S-T.

The cheating act is all off-page and never described. It was an event so pivotal, it changed the trajectory of her life and career for the next four years. And all we get is like a tiny ripped-off corner of a smudgy charcoal sketch. So, we never connect with her reaction to catching H in bed with whorebag former roommate. She ghosts him, but only pieces and parts are talked around. It wasn’t fleshed out and for an OG angst whore like myself, I needed that part to be crystal clear.

🙄😐

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I’m bummed because I wanted to like this one. I wanted to care enough to continue with the serials. Nope.

Pure, heart-pounding, knee in your gut emotion…

This debut novel was amazing! Sin and Jay’s story was a second chance romance with drama and emotion to spare. Jay was the rich, entitled boy and Sin the struggling artist when they met years ago. Told through a bouncing timeline of then and now, their tale of love and betrayal, of passion and anger was a one-sitting, no time for water closet breaks, read…

The backdrop was Las Vegas and the audience included the people who loved them as well as the whole world. There were fireworks and tears and all the feels as they yelled and stewed all while trying to ignore the blistering heat that still pulled at them. I was rooting for #sinjay from the beginning and booed and jeered for the family in their way as I cheered for the true friends that stood beside both of them…

Unanswered questions had me wanting more but… With no back list to devour I’m left with haunting the bookshelves hoping for a lot more by this author including more Sin City!

No really into victims blaming. The hero cheats, but literally puts all the blame on the heroine for leaving. He cheated, he does not get to choose how she deals with it or exits the shit show.

M. Jay Granberry is an ingenious author who has created flawed characters with redeeming qualities! This book is a MUST read!

Exquisitely Broken was exquisitely written! Jacob Johnson and Sinclair James, theirs is the story about second chances and whether or not you can move on from past hurts. When I began the book, I was upset with Jake’s actions that essentially caused the breakup, but in the end those feelings lessened as the story progressed since he was able to acknowledge his mistake.

”I own what I did. I won’t insult either one of us by pretending my actions were anything other than foul.”

Sin has as past that essentially would classify her as the girl from the wrong side of the ‘mountains’ that made it big. Although she had her heartbroken, there is still some hope in her heart.

“But maybe we have it all. Maybe we get everything.”

This debut novel was well written and the characters will entice you. Exquisitely Broken by M. Jay Granberry will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ELITE!!!

EXQUISITELY BROKEN
By M. Jay Granberry
4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟
Release Date June 11

This second chance romance had my heart in palpitations. The issues that tore Jake and Sin apart was hard for me to read but I found that M. Jay Granberry did it in a way where it had to be part of the story for all of it to come together. The actions of what happened in the past touched me. I felt the heartbreak and pain Sin went through because M. Jay Granberry captured my emotions through her words and made you feel as if it were happening to you.

Jake and Sin’s past broke me. The one thing I wish was that they had the talk about why. Aside from that I love how persistent Jake was and fought for what he truly wanted and that was Sin.

This story had me on a myriad of feelings. I was so angry at Jake but the anger lessened over time. Although, me as a person has a hard time forgetting past indiscretions. Lol. That’s when you know an author did her job right. She sucked me in and had me fully invested. This was an epic debut novel.

A great debut from an author, Yes Please! This was an emotional romance, with angsty and great characters. I enjoyed Sin and Jakes’s story so much. Their story was very well descripted, I felt like I was actually in it. Jake was a lovable character, even when you felt like you shouldn’t love him. His character had a powerful pull to him. Sin was the strong, who you couldn’t help but be on her side after everything she went through. Both their pasts were a big part of this story, which I absolutely loved! It great being able to see characters conquer and grow from their past, no matter what their pasts looked like.

*I recieved this arc in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much Jay Granberry, Next Step PR and Netgalley for this opportunity!*

2 ⭐⭐ - Meh!
============

“Is this the one who walked in the house and found…?” “The very same,” I grumble. “Are you serious? You fucked around on Sinclair James?”

“So, CliffsNotes version of this story is the ex-girlfriend you cheated on is now a headliner at our hotel, and by the looks of it, she had no idea you worked here. You still have a thing for her and, correct me if I’m wrong here, she does not reciprocate on any level. Why didn’t you tell me this shit before she got here?”

“I quit? So, you in bed with any other woman was putting in effort and devotion. But me walking out the door was the actual betrayal. Yeah, that makes total sense.”

Cheating lovers, lol, this got fairly good reviews so I dl'd from KU and read the first page, realized it was about a rock band and immediately closed it back up. I don't care for rockers. I've read one really good rock band cheating romance but that was a red herring for me bc the trope isn't a fave. I should've read the sample first. I'll find the link to that one I liked and add later.

4.5 Stars, but rounding up!

It's truly hard to believe that this is M. Jay's debut novel.  The raw emotion and depth in this novel is something expected from an experienced novelist.  But M. Jay does a fantastic job with this book.  I felt every emotion that both Sin and Jake were going through.  The chemistry between them is just outstanding and literally jumps off the page, well my kindle, but you get my point.  I found myself rooting for them from the get go.  The characters are super realistic and I immediately fell in love with all the members of Sin City.

I hope she writes Adam's story next - hint hint, wink, wink.... I would love to see what is behind his facade.

Readers choose the books they read for a number of reasons...sometimes the books choose them. Exquisitely Yours is just such a book. Granted I signed up to review an ARC, but I didn’t know that this book would reach out and grab me—and not let go until I reached The End! The storyline is amazing; the characters are well developed and touch your heart with their actions; plot twists and turns keep you guessing as the story unfolds; and the HEA will have you exhaling that breath you’ve been holding the last few chapters. This is one you’ll want to place on your TBR shelf today. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and was very impressed by this author.) ❤️

IMPRESSIVE DEBUT!

Sin and Jacob...mmmmm.
Second chance romance in Sin City. I was so in awe of Sinclair (Sin). I love her character and her ability to overcome her tough beginnings.
Jacob on the other hand..hmmm. I did not want to like him. I still don’t think I do..I tolerate him because I don’t think he deserves a second chance BUT destiny/love/fate overrides all.
I really hope there’s more to this story... another sin City Tale..Hint hint.. ADAM.
Kudos to the author for excellent writing.

1 star because f'n double standards. It is said many times how hero fucked around during those 4 years (after he cheated and heroine ran off). Fine.. i can live with that IF heroine meets other people, but noooo.. she stays celibate and she was virgin before hero.
Disgusting. If heroine had sex with other people, i would have read it, but her lifestyle and celibate... f no.

ALL MY REVIEWS CAN BE FOUND ON MY BLOG: ABSTRACT BOOKS

Exquisitely Broken is the first book of the Sin city tales series by M. Jay Granberry. Told in dual perspectives , this was one hell of a second- chance romance.

This was my first book by this author , and I must say that it was absolutely amazing!! Cheating is a trigger for me , and is also my secret addiction. I like to read books about that theme, but then there are very authors who actually Manage to give the readers that amount of redemption and satisfaction to make up for the cheating. This author did that fabulously!!

Sinclair has returned to Vegas after a long time . This was the place where she experienced her first love as well her first heartbreak. The way the story is portrayed is so heartbreaking!! Jake is the male lead of this story. He has issues and insecurities that ultimately lead to the demise of their past relationship.

Fate , however is not done with them. They both meet again and sparks ignite again. However this time things are a bit tough for Jake , as Sinclair is determined to not surrender to him.

This tale was one wild ride full of redemption and passion and I enjoyed this book a lot!! This book is recommended to all the Second chance romance lovers with themes like cheating and redemption!!

I am a bit speechless after this book. Intense is a good word for this book. Heartbreaking is another, tragic too. But it’s also amazing and definitely addictive.

I always find it hard to read second chance love stories. And especially when one character betrays the other. But I also find it amazing when they can forgive this betrayal, because it makes the whole story so much better. You get wrecked from the pain but the author gets to see it back together with their words.

I love the back and forth from past to present because you get the full story not just buts and pieces. This is the debut book for this author and I know I’m not the only one that will be reading more from her in the future!

An emotional masterpiece of healing, feeling, forgiveness and love.

How would you react after a devastating betrayal? A betrayal perpetrated by your soulmate, the one you planned out your forever with. Is forgiveness too much to ask? What about a second chance?

Powerful and real, Exquisitely Broken tells the story of a betrayal in a relationship and a couple’s effort to move past or move on from it through tears, pain, effort and undying love.

This book was raw and emotional. It hits you right in the heart and will leave its mark. I loved every heart-breaking moment of it.

The world and its characters could not be more real. Their thoughts, feelings and actions are so human, so downright authentic.

I ached and shed tears for and with this couple. I understood and feel like I know them.

This book will resonate with those who have been betrayed, who have felt insecure and who want forgiveness or want to forgive but don’t know how.

The sentiments, reactions and emotions expressed in this book are vivid which makes this book too genuine and emotional to ever forget.

I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Rekindling a Broken Romance

Sin (Sinclair) and Jake came from two very different backgrounds but found their way to each other at college. Sin was trying to make it in the music business with her band Sin City and even though Jake came from money he was busy making his own business empire. The distance got to be too much for their relationship and the outcome left Sin devastated.

Years later Sin has made it big and her band is doing a residency at Jake’s hotel in Vegas not knowing Jake has any part of this very same hotel. It’s going to be hard to ignore Jake but she just can’t go through what he put her through again. Jake wants nothing more than to try to show Sin it’s different this time.

There are so many obstacles in Jakes way to get back with Sin but he is determined even though after this residency she leaves for the road back on tour as soon as this ends. Plus Sin has a stalker that may have just changed the whole ballgame.

I really liked the story of Sinclair (Sin) and Jake. I liked how it flashed back to when they met, the various points of their relationship to now. I really loved that Sin was the lead singer of a band and it wasn't your typical male rockstar who goes off to pursue the music dream and leaves the girl behind. I loved that Sin was talented and strong and knew what she was meant to do. The chemistry between the two of them sizzled off the pages. Jake realizes that he messed up and the only way he can make up for his mistakes is by showing up and I loved that he was so willing to do that. Even the supporting characters were fantastic---Adam, Dan and Miles, Connor, Jeanine! This is a great read for the summer--it's got lots of steam but a good story at the heart of it.

What an incredible debut novel! I really enjoyed the story of Sin and Jake, it was really one of a kind! This book had me on a roller coaster ride of emotions and there was so much angst, which I love in a book!

These characters have so much depth to them and the way the author writes, it feels as if you’re right there in the story with them. While Jake may have done something awful, you just can’t help but love the guy and root for him! I know I sure did!

I don’t want to give too much away but I will say that I highly recommend this amazing debut book, it was wonderful! Now I need to go plan me a trip to vegas!!

Exquisitely Broken by M. Jay Granberry is a second chance romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Lacy Laurel and Jakobi Diem.

This is the first book of M. Jay Granberry’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. This book took me on an emotional roller coaster. I cannot wait until the second book in the series Exquisitely Hidden is released on audible so I can get Seth and Adams love story.

Lacy and Jakobi did an amazing on the dual narration. They really brought the story to life.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves second chance romance or Rockstar romances.

Exquisitely Broken has so much going on, it's hard to look away. Granberry creates a larger than life fantasy out of heartbreaking reality. At the heart of this emotionally stunning story is Sinclair James. Sinclair is a woman with the courage to follow her dreams, even as her heart was breaking around her. Just when she thinks she's outrun her past, fate steps into to prove her wrong. Can the one that broke her heart, put the pieces back together? Exquisitely Broken brings the heartache even as it inspires. Emotionally, exquisite story.

Well, where do I even start?
First of all, this story was literally the definition of an emotional roller coaster for me! It‘s made me feel so much angst and love for the characters. Although I usually don’t read too many second chance romances this one for sure got me 100%! It made my heart both brake but at the same time swell with happiness.

Even though he‘s done a huge mistake in the past, Jake will for sure make you fall in love with him! Let me tell you, that man is one sweetheart but also a real FIGHTER when it comes to getting his one and only true love back. (It‘s actually a miracle that Jake made me like him so much throughout the book. This being after he‘s done something in the past that I consider one of the most awful things).

We also have an absolutely incredible female protagonist. Sin is such a strong and independent person who, in the past, has been through a lot. However, she still managed to pursue her dreams and now gets to live the life she’s always wished for.

M. Jay Granberry for sure did such an amazing job writing this book! It really is an epic debut novel!

I was generously provided with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks again!
