Anthem of Ashes

Rate this book
To find the killer, she'll have to walk through fire.Ever since Elaria learned that an ember of her goddess magic still burns inside her, she's been having strange dreams of fire and blood. She decides that she needs a teacher to help her learn how to control the fire and the perfect one is found for her; a phoenix. A charismatic shapeshifter with true immortality and an exceptional control of fire. Except her lessons are put on hold when several phoenixes are murdered; their ashes taken to prevent their rising. Elaria is asked to find the killer and retrieve the ashes, but as she closes in on the murderer, she discovers that the Firebirds aren't the only ones being hunted. With the Spellsinger's fire raging out of control and her enemies poised to strike, the only song left for her to sing may be an anthem of ashes.

Amy Sumida is the Internationally Acclaimed author of the Award-Winning Godhunter Series, the fantasy paranormal Twilight Court Series, the Beyond the Godhunter Series, the music-oriented paranormal Spellsinger Series, the superhero Spectra Series, and several short stories. Her books have been translated into several languages, have won numerous awards, and are bestsellers. She believes in empowering women through her writing as well as providing everyone with a great escape from reality. Her stories are full of strong women and hot gods, shapeshifters, vampires, dragons, fairies, gargoyles... pretty much any type of supernatural, breathtakingly gorgeous man you can think of. Because why have normal when you could have paranormal?
Born and raised in Hawaii, Amy made a perilous journey across the ocean with six cats to settle in the beautiful state of Oregon which reminds her a lot of Hawaii but without the cockroaches or evil sand. When she isn't trying to type fast enough to get down everything the voices in her head are saying while her kitties try to sabotage her with cuteness, she enjoys painting on canvases, walls, and anything else that will sit still long enough for the paint to dry. She prefers antiques to modern furniture, tea to coffee, night to day, and Tom Hardy to Tom Hiddleston. No; Tom Hiddleston to Tom Hardy. No, wait... Tom Hardy and Tom Hiddleston to Tom Cruise. Yes, that's it.

I wish I could give two ratings.

I wish I could give two ratings.
Four stars for how well written it is and three to three and a half stars for enjoyment.
This was a beautifully complex
and layered story that took off in directions I didn’t always expect.
Thank You for that.
Rich and layered and a good amount of complexity.
I guessed one of the “bad guys” and I knew one of the players that was going to need to be punished.
That’s part of my problem per se.
Not who the evil party was but how they were handled.
See, evil deeds are a given in these stories but what turns me off soo often is how often sex is used to hurt others and I’d the heroine.
Now that wasn’t the case in this book, side note, it’s bad when you almost wanna consider a book a win just because no one was sexually assaulted, abused or raped or nearly raped in a story. Sad but true.
What happened w/Lucifer in the last book is brought up. Sadly he being the only person who can say “The devil made me do it .” is enough of an excuse to work as a ‘get out of jail free card” for him. If you have that excuse I guess it’s ok to steal someone’s free will and basically rape their mind,it’s all good . Right ? The “devil” made you do it and you let me cut the evil out of you. You F’ed me over every way you could except the “real” one ,soo alls forgiven.
WTF?!?!?!
You know til my griffin mate takes me up to his new kinky ,chains and manacles BDSM themed “love nest” and him ordering me around and playing around w/ the anal I don’t want gives me flash backs.
But Hey,my untrained lover in the art of BDSM,not a Dom. just a kinky control freak can make every thing ok, why almost a whole chapter of sexing and anal I didn’t want. See my kinky control freak can make it all better just by ordering me around and giving me new memories to push out the bad.
I’m just sure that’s what a trained psychologist in these matters would say. No need for therapy or counseling. No,just BDSM sex w/an untrained control freak.
BS
You need to be trained as a Dom and know how to treat someone . What to look for and what to do. It’s about more than replacing one really bad non consensual exp. w/ consensual exp.
It just ticks me off when BS w/ characters like Lucifer happens and forgiveness is given easier than advice on a bad date . Then in order to fix the trauma it’s ignored and or swept under the rug til it can’t be any longer and then fixed with a sex scene or two.
No,no! No.
Kid so my man and almost kill him by trying to steal his powers and I hate you for life.
Kidnap me,control me, take away my free will, rape me or almost rape me and just say your sorry, make me feel sorry for you and I either forgive you or fall in love with you .
Come for the writing but I want to run far and fast from BS like that .
Love most of the book just loathed all scenes w/Lucifer,awkward and nauseating and I wish chapter 39 had been skipped . As in not written. Gage was never a fan of you, especially since your freaky foot scene in “Primeval “, and your weak A need to prove how dominant/ manly you are in the bedroom but this killed you for me. Glad El loves you but she forgives rapists and ex boyfriends lie to her and betray her to said rapist ,soooo
Let me forget all that and I’ll love this book. Honestly I would have, if all the Lucifer stuff and Gage can be ignored. Because the rest is great.
