This is another wonderful cowboy book by Claire McEwen! The characters were excellent and their problems were realistic. I was touched by their growth and the author really brought out the emotions in this story. I love this Shelter Creek series and was happy to get glimpses of the other characters.

Good, clean story that will melt your heart. Loved Jace and the kids; they were doing the best that they could, under dire circumstances. Liked Vivian, too - she just needed to get herself into a better place to deal with all the things going on in her life. And as that author probably meant, I didn't like the social worker. No spoilers from me, but she was perfect in and to the story.

Author Claire McEwen returns readers to beautiful Northern California with "After the Rodeo", Book 2 in her contemporary western romance series, "Heroes of Shelter Creek". Jace Hendricks had spent a decade building a career on the rodeo circuit, and a winning streak had raised his hopes for a championship. His dreams were shattered by a phone call from Social Services advising him that his sister Brenda had been convicted of felony charges and was facing twenty years in prison. Jace's memories o ...more

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This was a wonderful story. I was thoroughly enchanted with Jace Hendricks and Vivian Reed. Jace is a former bull rider. He is forced to leave the rodeo circuit when his sister is convicted and sentenced to prison. He now has custody of his two nieces and a nephew. Jace is struggling to make the career switch to rancher on a beautiful piece of land. Unfortunately tule elk are thwarting his plans. A wildlife biologist

This is the second book in the Heroes of Shelter Creek series by Claire McEwen. If you enjoyed the first book, Reunited with the Cowboy, like I did, you'll enjoy this book too. Some of the characters appear again in this book, but the main characters are Jace Hendricks and Vivian Reed. I enjoyed reading another book based in Northern California, since that is where I live! Life has really changed quickly for bachelor Jace Hendricks. He is now in Shelter Creek raising his sister's three children. ...more

Get out your hankies for another touching story by this talented author.
Jace Hendricks was an up and coming rodeo champion until the day his sister goes to prison and he becomes the guardian of his nieces and nephew. Children who have had a tough beginning in life and now are living with a man they barely know and one who has no idea how to be a parent.
Vivian Reed is a biologist from the East coast who moved to California for a new beginning after being left at the altar and facing an illness th

I won a copy of this book from the author, I was not required to give a favorable review. This was the second book in the series and it was wonderful how characters from the first story show up in this story. But what I loved about this book was a uncle who had been single for so long, being a rodeo star give it all up when he found out his 2 nieces and his nephew needed him. He bought a ranch that he could afford in his home town and is trying to make a go of it. Between dealing with fixing up ...more

What a beautiful story about love and becoming a true family. Jace Hendricks is a strong, sexy cowboy who used to be on the rodeo circuit but now he is trying to raise his sister's three children. I enjoyed how Jace grew as a character and in his role as a parent. It was nice seeing him give up his anger and move on to become the man he needed to be for himself and the children.

I also liked Vivian Reed, who left New Hampshire for a new job in Shelter Creek, California. She needed to start over a

Claire did a great job with this book. She brought to light a issue that slot of people live with these days. Its called unseen illnesses. I loved Jace and Vivian's story. The way Claire brought to attention to Jace having to give up the one thing he thought he was good at, to give a home to his sister's kids. Shows character. Also I liked how she dealt with Vivian's dealing with her illness. She did a excellent job with both issues. She showed how pride can cause problems and then how to let go ...more

Jace is a rodeo cowboy who has to leave the rodeo to take care of his sister's three children while she is serving time in prison. HE is trying to do right by the children and things just seem to get in the way.

He buys a ranch that needs a lot of work. He has Children Services breathing down his neck finding things wrong with the ranch and he has spent most of his money trying to fix what he can. He puts up a really nice fence on a good piece of the ranch to find that it houses Tule Elk and an e

I originally saw the promo video for this story and was so intrigued I bought the book. I am so glad I did! Now I am hooked and must read the rest of the titles in this series. This is a heartwarming love story that brings to light the seriousness of Lupus and the struggles families face when drugs and crime take over. Jace steps up to foster his sister's children after she is incarcerated. He must give up the rodeo and make a home out of a dilapidated ranch. Vivian, a biologist, struggles to fa ...more

Another fabulous read about the inhabitants in Shelter Creek. Jace buys a ranch and takes on the care of his sister's three children when she goes to jail. Struggling to set up his ranch and parent the children, some of the locals protest at a new fence he has put up that stops the water supply to some of the wild elk. Vivian, a biologist persuades him to allow the elk access to the water. Eventually Vivian grows close to the children and inevitably closer to Jace. Some real humour along the way ...more

I absolutely enjoyed the story of Jace and Vivian, the second installment in the Heroes of Shelter Creek. I was so wrapped into how they each had their challenges and obstacles, but found each other despite them. And who doesn't want more of the Biddies?! It's such a great community. I love the setting of the story of too. Claire does such a great job of allowing the reader to escape from reality and be part of Shelter Creek. I cannot wait to go back to Shelter Creek!!! Jace and Vivian’s story is wonderfully written. Once I started reading couldn’t put down.

Jace a former rodeo star had to take custody of his nieces and his nephew. He didn’t know anything about being a dad or staying in one place. Can he make the farm he bought a working ranch and a home for the children?

Vivian is a biologist and tells him he can’t use the part of his ranch that he needs to use. What will he do? You will have to read to find out.

Jace and the Biologist

Jace had to give up his winning bull riding career to raise his sister's 3 kids. But he didn't have any idea how to do that. Then rare elk were discovered on his prime grazing land and endangered salamanders in his watering ponds. How was he supposed to run his ranch, raise his kids, and fix up his place? Vivian was the bearer
of bad news so how could she help?

Very nice story. The main characters were perfect for each other. They had many struggles, but that made the story all the more exciting. Highly recommend this book and the one before. This book doesn't need to be read in order but it makes it nicer to know the characters in both books by reading them in order. A wonderful HEA book!

Jace and Vivian were perfect for each other. I loved their interactions throughout, especially their first date. I absolutely love this series! The Shelter Creek Wildlife Center's studies are interesting, and at times lead to some entertaining situations. I look forward to my next visit to Shelter Creek!
