Today is field day at school. What's supposed to make that a creative or interesting premise for a picture book, a Ready to Read Level One?

Everything takes place in the water. Since -- giggle-giggle -- this is a school of fish.

Get it?

PICTURES ARE SUPPOSED TO MAKE THIS STORY BELIEVABLE

Does it work for me? No way.

A swim coach carrying a clipboard, for writing notes underwater?
A swim coach wearing a perky, uncreased red hat with a big letter C, for "Coach"?

And yet, rating this book.

My policy is to rate books on the basis of what reactions would be for the intended readers.

Seems to me, these would be very young readers who are working hard to sound out their words, and they're clueless about what makes a story believable.

On their behalf, FIVE STARS.

It takes all kinds to make a world of Goodreaders.
