In addition to being an excellent biography of GM mogul Charles Stewart Mott, this is also a superb history of General Motors during the more than 65 years Mott was involved with the firm (sixty of them as a member of the Board of Directors). Vivid profiles not just of Mott but also his contemporaries at the helm of GM, men like Alfred P. Sloan Jr., Pierre du Pont, and Charles Kettering. Having grown up in Flint, Michigan, the name Charles Stewart Mott was as Flint as coney dogs and the weather ball. I remember him coming to our school one year and listening to our music performance and I remember when he died we listened to his funeral in class over the PA system.
I couldn't help but think how disappointed he would have been in the current state of this city. Why can't we have more people who are more interested in bettering their city and not their pocketbooks? I enjoyed thi
