A. W. "Bill" Gray, a native Texan, has drawn critical acclaim for his crime novels, most of which feature Texas crime lawyer Bino Phillips. He is also the author of the true-crime book Poisoned Dreams.

it was fine. I picked up the book from a local thrift shop and it didn’t have a synopsis in the back, so I went into this pretty blind. I don’t know, the story telling was just, bland and factual. This felt more like a biography than the actual STORY. I wish I could give like, 2.5 stars. It was just boring and I had to look up how the trial ended because it didn’t even TELL ME?!

Overall I found the writing style a little dry. Not knowing much about this case going in, it was clear the author had formed certain opinions. This was confirmed as readers get to the epilogue and find out the book was published before the trial ended. To the author’s credit, he explains some of his bias. Would have been nice to hear more from people interviewed rather than summarized to bring the reader in.

I found this book to be filled with facts on the case, but I wished it was written after the trials of both David and Diane. The book fills incomplete, it just stops. It is missing the ending, the trials. Good information on both David and Diane.

I feel that the author should have waited for the court trial and outcome before writing the novel. I will have to google this and see if and what sentence the cadets got for the murder. It was well laid out and fairly easy to read.
