Rate this book

Alicia didn’t really believe life had great thrills for her. She had always lived in the simplest way and no such thing as true love existed in her mind. Even with her upcoming marriage, she expects nothing more than safety and security. But when she falls victim of a robbery attack and gets rescued by the most handsome man she has ever seen, things change dramatically... When she gets closer and closer to her savior, how is she going to deal with her unprecedented feelings?

After Duncan lost his wife, there was no more happiness for him in this world. And just when he had abandoned any hope of finding true love, fate proved him wrong. He could never expect that the beautiful woman he was about to save from an attack could be the one to make his heart flutter again. But what will he do when Alicia’s fiance shows up under his roof? Will he back down once again and let the only chance of loving again fly away?

Sometimes things are not what they appear to be and even a seemingly random robbery may be darker than it looks... What will Alicia choose in a situation like this, and how far is Duncan willing to go in order to prove that he is not there just to save her life, but to capture her heart as well?

If you like angst and indecision in your romance, this book has it in spades! The love triangle was maddening to me because Duncan🐎 tried to be The diplomat when he should have just punched the rude, crude, antagonistic and overly possessive Lucas👺 out! The mental sword fighting between the two suitors started to get really old by midway through the book.

A Guardian Angel for the Lonely Lady: A Historical Regency Romance Book by Abigail Agar is a sweet/clean Historical Romance. Meet, Alicia and Duncan, they are realistic, have depth, and are a wonderful couple. This story is steady paced, the characters have depth, the plot is flawlessly written.
If your enjoy sweet/clean Regency Romance, one with mystery, suspense, second chances, love, and a HEA, than this definitely is a story for your TBR list.
I enjoyed Duncan and Alicia's story very much, they were a delightful couple. The twists and turns, the surprises, the mystery and the suspense will keep you guessing and turning pages. However, there were a few area which are a little slow, it picks up nicely. An enjoyable and satisfying read.

This is a well published author, so obviously others enjoy this traditional writing style. For me the TELLING, little humour, simple characters and nothing special made for a tedious read. I thought it might improve when there was 'stand and deliver' type moment, but that too was tedious, the aunt who seemed practical made it all worse by screaming, and the h faints and misses most of it, and is curiously not concerned that her aunt is missing. She's loves her aunt, but little comment is made about her. That's it, I tried but I gave up at 36%.

First I should say I’ve never read anything by this author before and I mostly wanted to read this because I liked the cover. Seemed like it would be interesting it really did. However....

This book was a overly long overly complicated exercise is tedium. I don’t know if it’s just the story of the style if writing but it dragged on forever and Alicia was annoyingly naive and really just annoying I mean she didn’t like Lucas at all so why was she making this all unnecessarily complicated? I kind of feel bad for Duncan for falling for her.

So the story is...

Alicia would rather work helping her father with his business than go out and be social or find a husband like her aunt insists she should. For like no reason at all she accepts when the first guy to ever smile at her and ask her to dance wants to marry her. No matter that they know nothing about each other and she doesn’t actually like him because she doesn’t believe in love despite what literally everybody around her tells her. Her father has to go out of town for a friend’s daughter’s engagement party but at the same time needs to go on a work trip so he sends Alicia to do the work stuff which should have been simple and her Aunt Peggy goes along with her. Of course on the road the carriage is attacked by robbers and tungsten go awry very quickly.

Duncan is still getting over the loss of his wife four years ago while his mother and sister insist that he really should get over it and remarry. They don’t initially seem all that sympathetic but maybe they were just frustrated with seeing him all sad and what not. Later on the mother doesn’t really seem all that bad. Anyway on his way home after visiting his wife’s grave he comes upon the scene of the robbery and finds Alicia passed out and injured down the road in the snow alone. So he does the hero thing and whisks her off to his house where him and his maid/surrogate mother Rosa get her warm and they call a doctor that informs them that Alicia can’t be moved for like 6weeks while she heals from her injuries.

Alicia and Duncan engage in some love at first sight shenanigans which wouldn’t be a problem if she wasn’t engaged. Her father is still away and her aunt and the coachman disappeared from the scene of the robbery so her fiancee Lucas ends up eventually coming out to find her. He is immediately jealous and demands to take Alicia home even though his own personal physician agrees that she can’t leave. Eventually he leaves to retrieve clothes and Sophie, Alicia’s maid for her. While Alicia spends more time getting close to Duncan.

Fast forward to when Duncan tries to do the nice Hong and invite her father and fiancé to stay in his house because she’s not going to make it home for Christmas. That just turns into a very long series of annoying interactions between everybody and Alicia trying to figure out what to do when she’s in love with one man but engaged to another. Something she literally repeats a bunch of times. The more time she spends with Lucas the less she likes him but what does she do? Break up with him? Nope that would make sense and Alicia has no common sense.

At some point the details of the robbery seem sketchy and a few remarks from Lucas has literally everybody suspicious. So Duncan and Alicia’s father with help from Rosa and Sophie set out to find the truth. And to see if Aunt Peggy and the coachman are in fact still alive. The fact that they are alive makes no sense at all because um who keeps hostages did MONTHS?

At some point things just stop making sense and it all drags on into infinity and Alicia is just so ridiculous. Sure she doesn’t have any experience with men and she was obviously sheltered but there’s really no reason she should have been so confused. It was pretty simple. And really everything about Lucas was always suspicious.

This book was just quite frankly exhausting to read and not in a good way. It just dragged on forever and ever and ever. But hey the cover is nice at least. To be honest I couldn’t read till the end even skimming it was too much because it only got increasingly ridiculous and the number of times the wrong names were written for people was ridiculous. I can get over grammar or editing mistakes but the wrong names? And so many times?

All Alicia Edgerton wanted to do was to help her father in his business as she had been doing for years. Instead she met Baron Lucas Reynolds at a ball. They met at other balls and entertainments until he spoke to her father and then propose to her and she said yes. Alicia explained to her Aunt Peggy that her marriage would be a social partnership and there would be none of this love in it. Then she gets tired of Lucas always discussing the wedding plans whenever they are together it drives her mad. Her father receives two letters one is to go to Heltonshire because there's a problem with one of the clients. He also receives a letter from Paris in which an old friend is asking him to attend his daughter’s engagement party he decides that Alicia and Peggy can go to Heltonshire while he goes to Paris. He is supposed to send a letter to Lucas telling him that Alicia will not be at his house for dinner the next night and he forgets. As they are going Alicia and Aunt Peggy are robbed and Alicia science when a gun goes off and is left by the side of the road in the snow she finally wakes up Aunt Peggy and the coachman are missing. She realizes that she doesn't want to die she needs to walk to get help so she walks forward down the road until she trips and passes out with pain. To find out what happens to Alicia, Aunt Peggy and the coachman whether they are alive or not you have to read the book. It's a good book...

Alicia did not believe in love. She felt marriage should be entered into like any other business arrangement. So when she met Lucas Reynolds and he showered her with gifts and flowers, she was excited. When he proposed, she gladly accepted. But when Alicia and her aunt were on their way to take care of some business for Alicia's father, their carriage was held up. Alicia was so scared she fainted, and when she came to, her aunt, their coachman and the robbers were gone. Duncan Melrose lost his beloved wife Isabella four years ago, after only six months if marriage. Since then he has been lost in his grief. Returning from visiting his wife's grave, he found Alicia lying unconscious in the snow. He picked her up and carried her home where his maid Rosa helped him take care of her. Alicia and Duncan fell in love, but then her fiance' showed up. What will Duncan do? Then he discovers Lucas was involved in the robbery and kidnapping of Alicia's aunt and coachman? Can Duncan save Alicia before it's too late? What does Alicia do when she discovers Lucas was behind everything that happened to her, plus he had intended to kill her father? Can Alicia trust Duncan enough to let him help her? Can she give her heart to Duncan and trust him not to break it? I loved this book and the characters. This is Abigail Agar's best book to date.

ONE WONDERFUL DELIGHT!!!
OMG! A storming, twisting deluge of astonishing events and stunning revelations that keep you flipping page after page. One riveting storyline and electrifying plot blasts this bad boy blazing to life brilliantly. Twists and turns abound with circumstances catapult this baby together flawlessly. Abigail's don't pull any punches attitude really set the tone for this fast paced baby that leaves you breathless and wanting more. The characters are realistic with depth and personalities that blend fluidly. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Remarkable job Abigail, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.

Devious fiance and betrayal

Alicia believes marriage is likened to a business merger and becomes engaged to a man with no thought of love 💘. After the coach that she and her aunt are riding in is robbed, she is the only one left at the scene, unconscious and left to freeze in the snow and frigid temperatures, she is rescued by Duncan and taken to his in home.
Duncan writes to her father, but he has gone to France on business and her fiance is informed of her whereabouts and shows at along with her maid. Instead of showing concern for Alicia's health and wellbeing, he acts with jealousy and determination to remove her from Duncan's home regardless of whether she could survive the trip.

Intriguing a lady

This is one of the most intriguing books I’ve read lately! Love changes the mind set of Lady Alicia who believes marriage should be a business arrangement. But when she is injured in a carriage robbery and left for dead, she is found by Baron Duncan and taken to his home to heal from her injuries, she begins to change her mind. Being betrothed a few months before, when Lord Lucas shows up and brings conflict to her world she begins to see things differently.

Duncan and Alicia did not meet in any traditional way. He is a widower who wasn't sure he would find love and she is promised to another. Can this couple take charge of their lives and contemplate a HEA? A very clean and easy to read story. The storyline/plot kept me turning the pages to see what happened next.
I received an ARC copy of this. This is my voluntary, honest and completely personal review.

A good read

The title of Guardian Angel is really apt for Duncan, he really does stuff to deserve the name. I wish the story had included a bit more of Lady Alicia role in her new household. And at a certain point the end felt like a very extended epilogue or secondary book on Aunt Peggy. Duncan was very lovable, the villain was true to form. All in all a good read.

Truth and justice

I enjoyed this book . it was about a man who wanted to marry only for money to benefit himself and a woman who thought love didn't have to be in a marriage. When an accident occurs and she's rescued by a duke she finds attractive and love developed. Already engaged to an unfavorable man she learns of love and why the accident happened. A good read

A well design plot with action, suspense, mystery... lots of (inner - doubts - and outer - veiled enemies, intrigues, misunderstands, etc.) obstacles against a beautiful love story, but... in the end... love is even more powerful and our main "heroes-characters" will find their happily ever after.

Easy read

This book does have a sweet romance that comes about after a lady is rescued from freezing to death by Duncan. There is a fiancé and a mystery to straighten out before that happens

Not a fan

I only read to chapter 8 before I stopped. I’m not a fan of swearing or drinking/alcoholism and there was a lot of it in these first few chapters. The story also did not keep my attention enough to want to finish it.

A Sweet Story

This is a sweet, closed door romance. It was predictable and felt too long. It would read better as a short story.
