The Remains

Rate this book
Why is the town mortuary secretly removing bodies in the middle of the night? Deem, a young woman living downwind in southern Utah, is using her gift to figure that out. Spying on the old funeral home with the help of her boyfriend Warren, she confirms that corpses are being stolen – but for what purpose? With Winn and David away in Europe, and Warren too skeptical to be much help, Deem is grateful when her cousin Alice comes to the rescue. Together they stake out the mortuary and begin an adventure that takes them all over the southwest, coming face to face with a giant conspiracy that threatens to overtake them all. Just as she is on the cusp of solving the mystery and dispensing some justice, Deem is betrayed by everything she has come to rely on – with devastating consequences. Things may never be the same… The Remains is a fast-paced paranormal mystery and the eighth title in The Downwinders series. Praise for The Downwinders series from Amazon "I love the way this author brings his characters to life!" Long way down the rabbit hole

I’m not sure what number book this is within the whole “river” universe, but I do know we are a long way down the rabbit hole. I’ve enjoyed this series and as a whole enjoy the “downwinders” side a little bit more than the “river” itself. Unfortunately this being the umpteenth book in a series makes it very difficult to review.

The plot line is based upon a large number of books that came before it, but starts with bodies being moved from a morgue. A few of the characters felt interjected purely to pull off a few plot twists, which I understand was necessary but felt a little too convenient with too little detail given to those characters. I’m hoping that we get some more answers further down the line. The problem with the series now is that the overarching storyline is very complex now, and to get it to work within each separate book, it is starting to feel like some plot corners are being cut.

I like this series, it’s got heart plus a truly unique usp. I will continue to read this series, but I am starting to feel my interest waining.

EXTRAORDINARY!

Thank you, once again, Michael, for another wonderful read in the River Universe! I love that (without spoilers), that we see characters we haven't seen in a bit! The plot makes this book a hard one to put down. I've already bought Node and will start reading it within the next few minutes!!! Great work!

Another awesome book, love how characters from other books are brought in. Love the ending. That’s all I’m going to say. Must read for Michael Richan and River fans. 🤩

A great continuation!

This one has many ups and downs for Deem, and with that what will come of her future. As always, very entertaining and a non-stop page turner!

Never heard the man from Balbas limerick before. Gotta say it made me laugh audibly.

Deem usually seems stronger and more confident than she is in this one. Absolutely adore Alice, but know there's more story there, hoping we learn all about it.

I trust Carma and Lyman less and less with every new book. They lie and manipulate Deem constantly. Seems like everything is imploding for Deem downwind.

Glad she turned to the most trust worthy gentlemen in the River Universe. I like the idea of Deem hanging around and working with Roy, Steven and Eliza for a bit. Learning about Eximere and what it's like to deal with ghosts and others not down wind.

I'm kind of hoping she decides to make the move semi-permanent. With all that happened in Caliente, Leeds and Gallup she needs to take a break.
