Solomon Freedom and his parents discover that Daniel Ferris is mentally ill when Daniel takes refuge at the Freedom home during his own parent’s shouting matches. Even though Mr. and Mrs. Freedom are former flower children, Daniel finds in them a normalcy he cannot experience at home. When Daniel finds a diary written by another mentally disturbed young man, he considers suicide. Is the love shown by the Freedoms and their desire to help Daniel enough? Daniel believes in reincarnation. He is obsessed with suicide thinking that if he dies he will come back in a better body with a sound mind.
