description I've been curious about Charlotte ever since I have read about her and what she went through in THE TUDOR. So I was super excited to get my hands on this book. And I liked it. It was a sweet finding your first love type of read. It was well written. The pace was a bit on the slow side for me. It is a fairly long book, and there were parts (mainly the flashbacks) that I thought weren't really necessary to the "this" story. Having already read The Tudar I found them a little repetitive.
description
The friendship and eventual romance between Dallas and Charlotte was the icing in this novel. I loved their connection. I loved Dallas and how he helped Charlotte. I loved that Charlotte got closure. I wanted to ring Dallas's neck near the end, but I also understood his reasoning. This is a YA book, so don't expect any explicate sex. There is just one mild sex scene. No OW or OM drama. However, I could have done without them running into some chick he had slept with in the past. It was random and pointless to me. That said, it didn't affect my rating at all. I loved catching up with all the couples from previous books. I still don't like Eve though. (lol) Last, it was all wrapped up in a sweet happy for now ending. I would have loved to seen an extended epilogue with marriage and babies, but it is what it is.

Alll in all it was a great read, and I enjoyed it immensely.

The Girl is beautifully written with a looming darkness that doesn’t overshadow the pure enjoyment of letting Lotte and Dallas steal your heart. It hooked me from the first page and didn’t let go until the very last word. K. Larsen delivers an emotional and raw story with unexpected turns and so much heart. I highly recommend it!

When I finished The Tutor, I was actually done with the story. The loose thread of char'Lotte' was left hanging but I thought she didn't have enough of back story to get her own book, her being so young and all.
But for people who don't have a past,....they have- A future.
So Katie tells the story of Lotte AFTER she's been rescued.
"I took it all back- my power. I erased you from this place. From Your home. It's full of love now. Real Love. The kind that matters"

description

Her stumbling attempts to fit in the societal values she didn't grow up in.
They're a culture shock for sure!!! But she's a girl built with careful strength. Instead of being morose and depressed she makes an effort with her family of Nora, Mike, Eve's support to get therapy and try to bring normalcy in her life
I must applaud this new direction which the plot takes. Dallas BariBeau is her anchor, her horizon which she has to set her sights on, in order to move forward
"Love isn't the absence of pain, my sweet girl, sometimes it's learning to embrace it"

description

He's as broken as she is...if not more, and together they fulfill the voids in each others lives
A trip to experience new found freedom, stretch their wings and a quest for closure....ends in a trip to the hospital!!
"Every memory I can dredge up is accompanied by a feeling of unease because I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop"
It's a very well written story, full of laughter and sadness, questions and answers, hopelessness and hope. I'm so glad char got her story, as dismal as the mood in earlier books was, this book gave me hope that all is good with the Johnston...they be awright❤️
4.5 stars for Nutella Princess and had star for fangirling over jewel

It's like that first breath of air, right after having the wind knocked out of you.....Sweet, deep and so, so gratifying.

I am not an emotional reader. I'm just not. Very few books or authors have the ability to affect me deeply, emotionally, and profoundly. So when one does, I want to scream it from the roof tops and force every reader out there to read it.....READ IT NOW!!!! This book and this author, did just that.....and with a YA book at that.

I'm not a big YA reader. Dark, twisty and f'ck'd up are more my speed but K. Larsen captured the innocence and angst of the age but with the maturity, intelligence and depth that is Lotte (The Girl). And Dallas, he's flippin' perfect for her....perfect. I don't think I've smiled as much while reading a book but at the same time, I felt tension and something powerful building in the background that I couldn't put a finger on. It was this lingering aura of urgency that had me desperate to turn each page. I was nearly in tears for fear of what would come. This is K. Larsen, after all, and anything is possible. ;)

I've looked for ward to Lotte's story since first meeting her character in The Tutor. Her old soul and intuitive nature spoke to me and wouldn't let go. I've been, not so patiently but nervously, waiting for her story since. It was so completely and utterly worth the wait......K. Larsen nailed Lotte's character, for me and hit her story out of the f'cking park!

This is a story of taking chances, not holding back, and getting closure.

This is Charlotte "Lotte" Johnston's story.
She is a victim.
She is a survivor.
But the past, still haunts her.
It is not until she meets the new boy in school, Dallas Baribeau, that she considers stepping out of her comfort zone.

There is a kinship between Charlotte and Dallas. They have both had to overcome traumatic experiences. But unlike Dallas, Charlotte hasn't been able to exorcise the demon that haunts her, aka The Tutor.

Throwing caution to the wind, the decide to take an adventure together, growing closer with each hour. During that time, Charlotte opens herself up to more, and shares about the past, and is able to take step beyond what she was able to do with her therapist. I liked that she was able to get this closure, but I didn't like the thoughtless way she handled it, leaving her family and friends in the dark. But I guess what she did is actually representative of her age group.

As for Dallas, we know that he is hiding something from Charlotte. I didn't figure it out completely but had my suspicions. Given everything he does for Charlotte on their adventure, I knew he was harmless in terms of causing physical pain, it’s the emotional pain I wasn't sure about. I get why he did what he did, but that doesn't mean I liked it. LOL

While it has a young adult vibe, given the main characters ages, I think this will still appeal to readers of this series. It offered new insight into the trauma the girls have faced, and I loved that the demon is finally put to rest!

"I took it all back - my power. I erased you from this place. From your home. It's full of love now. Real love. The kind that matters."

Side note: I love when authors fan girl about other authors in their books - the sweetest compliment. And in this one, I adored how the author gives a SO to Jewel E. Ann, with Lotte's reading A Place Without You and describing how much she loves the author. Moments like that make me happy about the book world we live in.

I don't know what to say...…. Just WOW!!!!

I've been waiting for Charlotte's aka Lotte's story for what seems like forever. LOL I didn't know what to expect. I wasn't sure if K. Larsen was going to take the timeline with Lotte and have her older say late teens early 20's. Or how her story was going to play out. But she ended up being in her mid teens and the story was nothing what I expected. It was so much better.

This book was raw and emotional but had a lot of humor added in. It's soul searching, first love and finding ones true self and belonging.

Lotte and Dallas stole my heart from the very begging. I wanted to reach through the pages and wrap my arms around them and protect them and keep them safe and show them all the love. No child should have to endure what these two had to growing up. They had to grow up way to fast and were mature beyond there years.

I don't read many YA stories. I'm very picky on which authors I'll read them by. But this is definitely one of them. K. Larsen did an amazing job telling this story. It was beautifully written. It had all the feels and wasn't overly done in the areas that shouldn't have been.

This book could be read as a standalone and I feel you would understand what is going on. But I would highly recommend that you read The Tutor first. I think it would help you understand the whole story and give you more insight. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Possible plagiarism??

So happy I didn't actually spend my money on this book and read it with my KU subscription instead. It was apparent that Ms. Larsen is a fan of Alessia Cara because as soon as I reached location 215 in this book, I was reading the party scene nearly word for word from Alessia's song Here. I'm not sure if using/stealing the lyrics from a song as scene descriptions in a book constitutes plagiarism but it lost me as a reader. Be original

What a story, Charlotte and Dalla's story isn't an easy one with their pasts being dark things aren't always what they seem, Such an emotinal read, I really wanted to crawl into this book and hug them both. I have always wanted to read Charlotte's story since we first meet her in the Tutor I couldn't wait for her story. I am not giving away any spoilers but if you read the Tutor and wanted to read Lottes story then what are you waiting for.

This is so well written I didn't want to put it down I needed to keep turning the pages.

Just when I think K. Larsen can't up her game in this Tutor universe, she goes and writes The Girl. The story of Charlotte Johnston, the smart lover of words and the presumed last victim of Holden Douglas, who at the age of 16 learns what it truly means to survive when her heart is taken by one Dallas Baribeau.

I have been waiting for Lotte's story since I first read The Tutor. This fierce survivor called to me on a different level than Nora, Eve and Aubry. She witnessed true horror but somehow made it through stronger than ever. Her fire is something to be praised and who knew it would come to a full roar as she stumbles head-first in love with Dallas. The two outcasts in their high school who simply get the other. Not needing much in terms of words, although that is clearly Lotte's forte, instead feeling that tether between them that only two damaged souls can share.

City and her bad boy. Their spontaneous adventure leads to proclamations of love, loss, frustration and sorrow. And for all of the happiness their journey provides, there is that unease at both Lotte confronting her demons and Dallas hesitantly allowing his to surface. The book took a turn that Lotte hadn't counted on and it threatens to shatter all hopeful thoughts that she finally held in her fragile grasp.

The Girl is riveting and gripped my very being right from the start. I knew from previous experience with this series that it wouldn't necessarily be an easy read but somehow Larsen with her brilliant prose made it joyful in the midst of all the heartache. There was something always very intriguing about Lotte, perhaps because of her young age and all they she endured and yet somehow persisted. I'm thrilled Dallas in his own unrestrained and uncertain way, found that same something and gave her the affection and light she deserved.

I could read about these characters and the trials, tribulations and moments of happy they have encountered forever. It is beyond well-written. It is thoughtful, well-paced and full of emotions that gave me pause more than once. Yeah, I teared up a time or two but Larsen's words have a habit of doing that and I will always be grateful.

This is a book not to be missed and is sure to be at the top of my best of 2019 without a doubt. I just love the way Larsen crafts a story that tugs at my heartstrings while keeping me intrigued every step of the way.

A moving and beautiful story. The whimsy of young love. The excitement of firsts and new adventures, a journey of self discovery. I couldn’t help but be caught up in this story. I had butterflies and a ridiculous grin on my face, yet all the while an undercurrent of seriousness, of trauma and heartache, wove its way in and around all of the light. I could feel the tension build, slow and steady, yet undeniably present. Larsen’s mesmerizing writing allowed me to feel every word. Through laughter and tears and everything in between, this book was everything I hoped for Lotte.

What a beautiful, emotional story! Charlotte and Dallas have a dark past and meeting each other brings out the light but everything isn’t as it seems. Very tense story that made me read it without stopping. When you meet someone that you will do anything for them but everything is closing on you. What do you do? Do you hope all the darkest just fades away? I fell hard for both characters I wanted to just hold them and take away all the pain! Definitely a must read 5/5 stars

This book was everything and more!!

Putting this one into words is a little harder than most. We already know what Lotte has been through. We already know how much she suffered. How much she lost. Going through so much, at such a young age, is more than most can bare. We already know that Eve, Aubry and Nora are fighters, so Lotte comes with some fierce women to look up to. But what happens when innocence is taken away. What happens when you are forced into a way of life that is unlike anything you've ever done before, and then you find yourself back in normalcy and expected to go back to the way things were. Before. Like nothing ever happened. Lotte's story is quite possibly one of the most emotional stories i have read in quite awhile. For me, definitely the most emotional in this series. And for good reason. We have seen every side of Lotte from every perspective, except her own. Until Now. And Dallas. Oh how I fell in love with this boy. This story is about selfishness, selflessness, heartbreak and love. The fact that the heart and the mind can be hurt in so many ways and still be capable of so much is truly miraculous. Lotte and Dallas have stolen my heart and i hope they steal yours as well.

I read The Tutor and The Brother which can be read as standalone as well as this one. At first, I wasn't completely sold on the decision to give Lotte a story. I basically was picking up The Girl to just to see how Lotte ended up but not fully invested in it. Boy did this story surprise me. I haven't realize how good Lotte's story would be. Lotte definitely deserved a story and the author did a great job giving Lottie her story. Lotte has had a bad past. She was a victim of The Tutor but she's also a survivor. She strong but tends to try to stay her comfort zone. Dallas walks into her life. He's an interesting guy. He has a past too. I really loved Lotte and Dallas's story. This is one you should one click.

The author gave me something I didn't know I wanted Charlotte's story. I LOVED IT.

Dallas and Charlotte are kindred spirits, two halves of one whole. The road for this couple won't be easy as they both have dark troubled pasts. I couldn't put this book down, I could feel it was building to something, looking back the clues were there. This is such a beautifully written emotionally raw story. A perfect follow up story to The Tutor.

Yikes. What a story.

This is Charlotte ‘Lotte’ story. Lotte and Dallas are so broken. My heart broke for both of them. You seriously need to read this story to hear theirs.

As I loved The Tudor so much I highly recommend you read that first although this can be read as a standalone.

This truly is a beautiful and emotional story that I didnt want to finish. Amazing read that will stay with me for a long time. I highly recommend this gem.

I've been waiting for this story for what feels like years. I loved Lotte and needed more.

And wow, did we get it. I'm still reeling and I finished the book days ago. I can't stop thinking about it.

"Love isn't the absence of pain, my sweet girl, sometimes it's learning to embrace it"

I never know what I'm going to get when I pick up a K. Larsen book, but one thing is guaranteed. A story that will grip your heart and won't let go.

I was excited to read Lottes side after The Tutor, but I felt like i was reading The Tutor all over again.. i felt that there was a lot of unnecessary flashbacks and even though I loved the characters and their young, wild, and free spirits, I just think it got shadowed by Lotte’s memories from the tutor. The ending was what you would expect, a happy ending, but it felt rushed and then it just ended..

Can an abused girl overcome her past to attain a norm lifestyle, high school student, finding friendship, cultivating relationships, and falling in love for The first time. The Girl is a standalone novel, but I HIGHLY recommend you read The Tutor and The Brother prior. Not because it is necessary, but because it will enhance your reading of The Girl.

This is Charlotte's story. It's not really a coming of age story, because Charlotte has lived a life that most could never imagine. She's wise beyond her years, so very wise. However, she's also a young woman who meets a boy. A boy that changes everything.

Dallas is the product of a drug addict and the foster care system. He's just going through life until he ages out of the system and is on his own. Then, he meets The Girl. Her light, her goodness and her heart are everything to him. But can he be what she needs?

This story is so much more than young love. This story is about surviving what life handed to you and having that special someone to help you be the best person you can be, even if that someone is flawed and damaged. It's about healing old wounds and mending relationships. It's love and life and living. It's pain and sorrow. It's light and dark. It's a girl and a boy. And as Charlotte says "It's everything"

Oh my....word!

I am no Nora and not even close to Lotte. I cant find the words to describe the emotions flowing through me like a wild, unclaimed river. I can say they come on like a flash flood and leave ruin in their wake. My puffy, red eyes are proof. The unstoppable sniffling and attempts to breathe out of both nostrils are also consequences of having the feels ripped out of me.

K. Larsen didn't surprise me. I saw it coming. I knew it was happening. I just hoped beyond hope I was wrong. But sometimes even knowing your going to crash into that brick wall at 100 mph doesn't make the impact any easier. Knowing you are going to be in agony does not lessen the pain. I think the anticipation of the crash actually makes it worse. So enjoy blissful ignorance because this book is going to give you a world of hurt.

Enjoy young love. Enjoy the youthfulness. Enjoy the healing. Enjoy being free...

Enjoy The Girl with your whole heart. I can guarantee you will finish with a piece missing. Lotte and Dallas will steal a piece and you will never get it back.

Read in less than a day. 2 teenagers as outsiders with complicated pasts. This is actually a series and I did not know that till the end. Had I read it on order it would have been better but it can still be read as a stand alone. It shows the sttruggles of mental illness and unconventional familes. I really liked this one and recommend it as a fast read.

Cute Story

I really liked all 3 books of the Tutor series. This was sweet, with no scary drama, but drama non the less. Charlotte & Dallas totally fit together as a young couple. Their adventure, I believe, really sealed the deal! All great books!

Lottie’s story

I have been impatiently waiting to read this book. From the moment I heard about it I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and K. Larsen did not disappoint. The story of Charlotte and Dallas captivated me from the first page to the last. I cringed and laughed and my heart shattered and was slowly put back together again. I felt their emotions as if they were my own. When an author can make you feel everything that the characters are feeling you know you’ve got something special. I enjoyed the flashbacks in the story that served to remind me of a few parts of the series I had forgotten. This book and series is a must read.

I hadn’t read the previous book The Tutor when I picked this up and dove in and I may have garnered more from having had that under my belt to start with but I can honestly say that in the scheme of things I don’t actually think it detracted from this…I don’t think anything could, it was a beautifully, emotional story!
Lotte ( Charlotte ) and Dallas both have pasts that have been and in some respects continue to be troubling …so two such fractured individuals together was always going to be a turbulent ride, little did I know or could u ever have comprehended just how much, they were astonishing and their story was one that I couldn’t tear myself away from
The angst that the pair of them experienced, the darkness that almost shrouded the two of them was only punctuated by the desire that seemed to just highlight their souls, the need that was so prevalent that they had found in each other…but having each other was never going to be straight forward or easy and I could only pray that they had the strength to find their way. It was going to be a rough ride that was clear.
Two young people who whilst it would appear were polar opposites in many respects, could also be described as being the most perfect of soul mates, the connection between them bore each of these theories out in equal measure.
Quintessential good girl Lottie, but living on the verges of acceptance by her peers and the new kid, and social outcast Dallas were everything that they could and should have been, they were when their sh**ty lives had left them, the misfortunes that had been bestowed upon them had led Lottie to a period so dark that she was barely hanging on and as for Dallas, he has had his issues, a life without a family so to speak, or at least anyone who he could count on, he has felt the long arm of the law and paid the price for that but now he again stands on the precipice of being alone, forced through nothing more than his age to leave the his home, I was staggered at just how many times I had to stop and catch my breath with the detail of what I was reading with this pair, they had and continued to go through so much that it was almost too much to comprehend at times.
I couldn’t help but wonder if this pair stood a cat in he**’s chance of being able to make what they were feeling work? But darn it I was determined to find out and had my fingers crossed for the pair of them most of the read.
Evocative and bruising, this is not completely angst riddled but it isn’t far off, this isn’t an easy read because it touches on the pain that the two of them have experienced and that is not pleasant but it is inspirational and it shows that from such hardship come the opportunity to forge a new life, a better life, a life that you not only want but on that you deserve.
Exceptional writing, this is one that is fully deserving of 5 stars and should not be missed.
