“I’m working on the greatest mystery ever,” was the last thing noted mystery novelist Mercedes Livingston said to seven-year-old Chris Matheson before walking out of Hill House Hotel never to be seen again.

For decades, the writer’s fate remained a puzzling mystery until an autographed novel and a letter put a grown-up Chris Matheson on the trail of a cunning killer. With

The Last Thing She Said
By: Lauren Carr

*REVIEW* 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Lauren Carr is new to me, and I do wish I had more backstory before reading this book. The Last Thing She Said is a murder mystery of the most convoluted variety. The Geezer Squad are working a decades old cold case. The mystery is bizarre from the start-an author presumed dead forty years ago may not have been dead

The Geezer Squad is back, along with the rest of the gang, and I am so happy to joining in the mystery, fun and lovin’ The family that solves a murder together, stays together. lol I am amped up, ready for some murder, mystery and laughs, with two and four legged characters combines.

Sometimes it is hard to write a review and this is one of those times. The words won’t seem to come, even though I loved The Last Thing She Said. There was lot of mystery and suspects, clues to follow, some lead to n

I’ve been reaing Lauren’s books as fast as she can release them. This newer series is every bit as dear to me as the others.

It is such fun to be back with these characters. There are many. I love how Lauren puts a directory at the beginning. It lists all of the important characters and shares who they are in connection to the story and each other. I always read them to refresh my memory.

I fell right into the story. It’s like the characters stepped onto the stage. There’s murder, kidnapping and a

The story starts with a seemingly normal conference, where seven year old Chris Matheson meets Mercedes Livingston, gets a signed copy of her book, and hears the last thing she said – she’s working on the greatest mystery ever.

Forty years later, the Matheson family’s friend Shannon Blakely dies, presumably of natural causes. And here’s where the mystery starts. She leaves behind a cryptic letter to Chris, containing a mystery he must solve, a cold case that happened forty years ago.

Absolutely banger of a premise which hit me hard, a thriller author, dead to the world, left a message for the main character to solve the murder of her ex-husband 40 years ago. A voice from the grave, was it? Or something more?

My first book by Lauren Carr was delightful. Solving the cold case based on pure detective work and getting to the witnesses who might not be alive today was a challenge. I got a thrill seeing the way each clue was looked at from different angles. Though part of a series

The Last Thing She Said is filled with more then one mystery. Chris is the main one that needs to find answers for a dying friend. But what if that friend ends up being a famous author that wants to give her children the legacy that she left behind?

Well the way this plot goes. Chris and his mother do not know anything or seem to know that they are were friends to someone that was to be kidnapped and dead. When your mother last friend is leaves a letter to your son and ask you find out who murder

What I Loved: This was a fun mystery that got me so invested in the characters. They are silly and fun, and loving to each other. Their banter showed me just how good of friends they are, and how long they have known each other. It made me feel like I had been friends with them that long as well. Additionally, there is some really great (and silly) stuff that happens with the dogs and their over-sized personalities. It just made me laugh a lot. It was outrageous and perfect for the story. Where to start? I have read and enjoyed every title by this prolific author. They are all filled with wonderful characters (both human and fur babies), interesting plots and a great combination of danger, suspense, humour and romance. That said, I think The Last Thing She Said really stands out as exceptional. It showcases the author's great talent as well as the many years she has spent crafting her skills. Only someone with serious hours at the typewriter (or computer) could handle a storyline ...more

When Chris Matheson was a little boy he was lucky enough to meet author Mercedes Livingston at a book signing. At the time she announced that she was working on her next big book. Shortly thereafter her husband is killed and her body is never found. She is assumed to be dead too.

Zip to present day and a family friend of Chris’ dies and tells him that she was really Mercedes. She was afraid to reveal the truth because she didn’t want to be blamed for her first husband’s death. But she wants her

The Last Thing She Said

This is another exciting book by Lauren Carr. I have read almost every book she has written. As far as I'm concerned she is the best mystery writer. Every one of her books are very exciting . They are ten star books . I recommend every one of her books. Can't wait for the next one.

Love the dogs in this series!!

I have to admit that by a third of the way through the book, I knew who the bad guy was. What I didn't expect was how the story line grew and grew and grew. I visited with quite a few characters and their sidekicks that I had met in past books. It was fascinating to see how the author was able to bring the 40 year old murders to life in the present. There were a couple of side crimes that enhanced the story. I am looking forward to next entry in this family of crime

I love how Lauren writes. She makes murder mysteries fun with all the animal characters and the humans.
I found this book today on my kindle so I had to change my plans to read it. It was worth it.
we saw familiar characters, twisty plots, multiple cold cases solved.
I have to say the one scene in Deep Creek was the funiest.
Look forward to more stories with the geezer squad and Chris Matheson.

I have to admit I had a bit of a hard time with this book. Not the book itself but my time management. I have been having a crazy few months, and it seemed every time I sat down to listen to this book the world turned upside down for me. As with all of Lauren's book, she makes you feel like you are a detective investigating the crimes in her books. If you cannot fully pay attention you loose important clues to keep you fully invested in the mystery. I started this book over 3 times not because I ...more

Again Sterling is awesome and takes the prize in entertaining me in this book. But the book itself was great. The plot that began in the past that catches up to the present in the most twisted and bizarre way and Chris and his mom a right in the thick of it all.

I loved how Chris as a kid may have heard the last words and gets him hooked into the mystery of Mercedes Livingston both then and now. She sets him on a course of loving mysteries and solving them but also gives him a mystery to solve ye

Note: This book reads just fine on it’s own even though it’s part of a series.

There’s just something very satisfying about solving a cold case. In this tale, Chris Matheson is challenged with not only an old murder case but also a few missing persons. Once again, I was surprised and entertained by the intersections of what initially seem to be unrelated cases.

I do find it fun that Carr includes authors as some of her characters from time to time. In this one, a famous author goes missing only to

The Last Thing She Said is so full of mystery after mystery that I am not sure where to even begin. First off, we meet a 7 year old Chris Matheson and his mom at a book signing convention of not one but two famous authors. Mercedes Livingston and Robin Spencer. Yes THE Robin Spencer of the Faraday fame. I think that was my favorite part of this book: the crossover with Chris Matheson and the Faraday's, Mac and Archie.

Since Chris is retired and he only deals with cold cases and he obviously need

The Last Thing She Said (catchy title!) is the third book in the Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery series that I love. It seems that each book is better than the last. In this installment, we even have appearances from beloved characters of the other three series, including Mac Faraday with Archie Monday and the famous Gnarly, now mayor of Spencer. The scenes with him were just hilarious.

What made this book kinda special is that it's the cold case of a best-selling author who disappeared forty ye

Lauren Carr once does not disappoint in her newest release, The Last Thing She Said. This third installment from her Chris Matheson Cold Case series, is yet another entertaining mystery. Even though it is part of a series, I believe this can be read as a stand alone. But a reader would not want to miss the first two.

The Last Thing She Said catches readers up with Chris Matheson and his sidekicks. Since he was a child, he wondered about the disappearance of the mystery writer, Mercedes Livingsto

This is by far the best book in Lauren’s series and a fantastic mystery from start to finish with appearances from all of my favourite characters.

In this novel, we have the disappearance and suspected murder of a famous mystery writer and her husband at the centre of the plot. We learn that this famous writer was never killed, instead she was working with Chris Matheson’s Mom all along! Not to mention, the strange tie that Chris met her as a young child when he was dragged along to a conference

As I began reading, I was caught up in the story immediately. I couldn’t flip through the pages fast enough. It was interesting and written well.

But as I continued reading I came to a little snag. When the geezers got together to share their thoughts it slowed the story down considerably. It went from person to person in the group and each speaker seemed to be tagged with said. The conversation was distracting and went on far too long. I’m a fan of trying to do away with most tags, or of course

Another amazing mystery from Lauren, but I think I am getting better at solving her mysteries! {Keyword: maybe}

I loved that we got to put all of the characters together – first and foremost. We had Chris and his family, Robin Spencer, Mac and Archie, Joshua and Cameron – it was like a big reunion and I loved every second of it!

The book starts in the past with a glimpse into an event in Chris’ childhood that comes back to be a real life mystery for him and the Geezer Squad to solve. What we run i

Once again we are captivated not only by the human detectives searching for clues to a very cold case ( 4 decades!) but also by the animal antics of the extended clan and crew created in Lauren Carr's extremely active imagination. I have no idea how she keeps it all straight.
Various characters from different book series become entangled and entwined as they are called in to unravel a disappearance, kidnapping, murder, and identity transformation with fraud and other deception motives. Could a w

"The Last thing she said" is a crime investigation thriller. I am not much interested in crime thrillers but the author has led this story in a unique way which I liked.

In the beginning of the story, Shannon writes a letter to Chris (who investigates cold cases )to solve the mystery in her life and find out the culprit who murdered her ex-husband.

Investigating a 40- year old crime is not easy with all evidences wiped, many witnesses dead or unavailable. But the team of investigators - Chris, He

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

I have read several of Lauren Carr’s book and this is my favorite one so far. Chris Matheson’s mom took him to see a famous author when he was 7 years old and the author and her husband disappeared that very night. They were never heard from again but now, many years later, new clues come to light. Chris and The Geezer Squad have to find out what happened!

Another one of Lauren Carr’s cozy mysteries, and this one does not not disappoint. The Last Thing She Said centers around Chris Matheson and the death of his Mom’s best friend. All started out as an ordinary passing, but secrets are revealed that take the reader into a whirlwind of a story.

The Last Thing She Said frequently dove into the past during the investigation. I found it somewhat difficult trying to keep everyone straight. This might have been because I was listening to the audiobook ins

I am so happy to be back reading the Chris Matheson series by Lauren Carr. In The Last Thing She Said, we catch up with Chris, The Geezer Squad, Helen, and Sterling as another cold case crosses their paths.

What I love most about this book is the crossover. Being a huge Lauren Carr fan, I like all of her series. TLTSS sees the Chris Matheson series meeting up with Mac Faraday series and of course hilarity and murder ensues.

Lauren Carr really impressed me with The Last Thing She Said. I loved how she wove characters from previous books and series together, and tied them into a cold case mystery. The humor in this book is laugh out loud. There are plenty of cameo appearances by Gnarly, Sterling, Storm, Thor, Traveler to keep the animal lovers happy. The references to Robin Spencer, Mac Faraday, Archie, the Geezer Squad, Chris Matheson and his family were wonderful. The book is a gem with so many facets. I loved the ...more

Can a dying woman's last wish be achieved?

Yet another phenomenal read. I love the Chris Matheson series and hope there are more in the works! I truly cannot wait to see what comes next.

The last thing she said is a riveting tale with great twists and turns. I love that if you examine all the clues while you're reading you can solve the mystery but if you misread them you'll be back in a cold case. The way the characters are woven together makes the story even more enjoyable.
