Laugh out loud funny and super clever! I read this with my 7-yr-old and there were emergency toilet breaks required from laughing too much (I won't reveal who had to run!). So good.
The conversation sections are gold, the room reveals had us giggling and going back over them, the ongoing postcard theme was ace, the dad's singing ... all brilliant. The words and the illustrations are perfect together.
Highly recommended for a laugh that also gets you thinking.

3.5 stars. A fun, imaginative romp that I am sure will keep children entertained once they pick this book up. The characters are likeable, there is lots of imagination (and very little realism), while also communicating some messages about trust, community & supporting local business. There are some mystery elements woven in too - with some resolved and some left cliffhanger style to get you straight into book two. The author manages to have Chegwin part of a loving family, while also having the ...more

'This is an engaging read for younger readers... The characterisation is well written and the setting depicted so the reader can easily visualise what is happening... I am looking forward to the next book in this series [Toffle Towers 2: The Great River Race]. This will make a great addition to any public library and is a must for all primary school libraries. A great read aloud

Welcome to Toffle Towers, a hotel that hasn’t had a booking in two years and is now under the ownership of Chegwin Toffle. 10-year-old Chegwin is possibly not the best choice to run a hotel. When the story begins his teacher tells him that he is such a daydreamer that he is completely unteachable. Chegwin has a mind full of possibilities and an overactive imagination, which may or may not be handy in hotel management. Aside from a few teething errors, including accidentally ordering 60 000 litre ...more

Great book to read with your children. I didn't hear of the author, but my child is looking forward to reading other books now by the same author. A few Twistys for kids and a nice cliffhanger for the next book. ...more

A super fun, laugh out loud, story about a young boy who inherits a hotel. Action packed, with loveable characters and a touch of mystery, this new series is bound to be a winner in our library.

Completely bonkers and daft this is a ridiculous plot with mysteries still to be revealed.

Myself and two kids, aged 10 and 5, all loved this. We listened to the audio book version while driving. Could not find audio books for 2 & 3, so I bought the books for my 10 year old. She finished them in two days! I highly recommend the audiobook.
