The poems in What I Know of the Mountains feel unlike any other poems I've read. This collection is singular, captivating, & generous with its range as well as its specificity. I read these poems breathlessly—due to Baban's versatile handling of a variety of inherited & innovated forms—wondering if there would be a "weak" poem in the collection. There isn't. Weeks after re-reading, I still find myself reciting poems from this collection in my head. Not only do the poems stun, the book is gorgeously designed, printed, & bound. Run don't walk to buy as many copies as you can!
