At the heart of our present are the stories of our past. In ages gone by, many monarchs died while they were still young. There were battles and diseases and many were simply overthrown. But the days of regal engagement in hand-to-hand combat are over and the line of succession has a good ageing prospect these days.

One of the most famous monarchs in history is Queen Vict

This proved to be an intriguing books and certainly wasn’t what I’d anticipated at all – I thoroughly enjoyed it! Whilst told in the form of a story it is based on historical facts, telling the behind the scene stories relating to the British monarchy through the ages, starting with the upbringing of the child who grew up to become Queen Victoria and continuing on through the twentieth century monarchs to Queen Elizabeth II. I was fascinated by some of the revelations regarding the royal family ...more

The third book in Trisha Hughes' well-researched series explores the story of Queen Victoria and her legacy. Victoria to Vikings: The Circle of Blood takes us from Victoria's ancestry to the current queen, Elizabeth II. I'd not thought about it before but they shared the experience of coming unexpectedly and poorly prepared to the throne.

It was useful to be reminded of the complex social and political environment the young Queen Victoria was faced with, as it helps explain the strange 'double st

Ever wondered what is was like to be King? Ever wonder what it took to become a Queen in a largely male dominated world? Well look no further. Victoria to Vikings: The Circle of Blood is the 3rd and final book delving into the history of our monarchy.

I’d like to think I know a little about history.. I enjoy the subject that’s for sure but what you get taught at school barely scratches the surface!

Trisha Hughes has a very fun approach to sharing history with the reader, with added little commenta

I wasn't really sure what I was getting into when I picked up Victoria to Vikings, but I'm really happy I did. I've been reading a lot more in the historical realm, and this while told in the form of a fictional story, is full of historical facts.

I loved the behind the scene stories. This was a really intriguing spotlight on the politics, attitudes, and relationships of the time. Trisha Hughes did her research and made this feel authentic while keeping it a perfectly paced, entertaining read.

This is essentially a readable, gossipy and popular book of the history of the reigns of Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, George VI and of course, Elizabeth II. It follows two others, Vikings to Virgin, and Virgin to Victoria, in sweeping through the decades following the very personal lives of monarchs and their effect on Britain. It is a book that stands alone in giving a unique perspective on recent history, and its unique appeal is the style in which it is written. Friendly and o ...more

What an amazing way to spend my time, reading this completely mesmerizing and enthralling book!!!! It is full of history yet told in the form of a story!

“At the heart of our present are the stories of our past. It’s the story of all people, in all places, at all times and because we know that history, we can decide what may happen in the future.”

This book chronicles the reign from Victoria to the beginning reign of Elizabeth II. Yes, there were men who ruled in the meantime, but the bulk of this

This was a really interesting history book that I learnt a lot from, but didn’t finish because of stuff going on in my personal life. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this book & loved how much detail the author went into - reading history in her voice made it easy to take in & meant that I was constantly eager to read more. This book covers a period of history I don’t know much about & I learnt a lot about how everything went wrong in the early 1900s. One day I will pick this book up again & read ...more

An enjoyable read largely spanning the British Royal family between Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II, with references back to Queen Anne. The narrative flowed well in this novel, marrying fact and fiction up seamlessly. Unfortunately there are no references which I found disappointing, or further reading suggestions. A good introduction nevertheless to this period of history.

Excellent overview of the six 20th century monarchs from Victoria to Elizabeth II. Easy to read, informative, and rather entertaining. A couple of historical mistakes, but its doesn't detract from the overall enjoyability. If you're a fan of British Royalty then give this a go. ...more
