If all you see is us breaking into abandoned places, then you dont get it, Elijah said, mostly to Lex. We are attracted to the decayed, crumbling, and forgotten places because we are forgotten. We see these places as beautiful, just as we see one another as beautiful."

The Ghost and the Wolf is undoubtedly an action-packed young adult paranormal story. What I'm not expecting is the thought-provoking elements inspired by the characters and their journey to solve a mysterious case of paranormal

A book that opens with a scavenger hunt, enhanced by dark technology, which leads characters into dangerous situations: of course, I would love this YA thriller/mystery! Penelope, a journalist who will do anything for a great story, and Lex, a paranormal investigator, run into each other at a graveyard one night and have no idea what incredible adventure awaits.

The book centers on a group called the Broken, teenagers who each have been hurt, scarred, disenfranchised from society, or worse. This

This one gripped me pretty early on. The action was fast-paced and captivating. There was even one scene that had me holding my breath along with the characters and jumping at each sound like I was watching a horror movie it was so well written. Reading about their adventures and friendships made me want my own little group of Broken...well, before it all went to hell and people started coming after them. And after that ending, I'm very curious to see where it all goes next.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Leonns work for several years. Reading the rough draft of The Ghost and the Wolf (which is hardly the case considering her immense talent), I was blown away by her skill and fluid style and general awesomeness. It was no surprise to me that she would be published, and this book was my most anticipated purchase of the year.

As a 90s baby, I loved shows that depicted kids as teammates, leaders, and banter-trading friends (think Codename: KND, Teen Titans).

This book was engaging and tightly paced from start to finish. The diverse cast of characters was enjoyable to read about (with Mason being my favorite thanks to his sense of humor), and their relationships with each other felt genuine and interesting. I appreciate that this book included a wide variety of marginalized characters in a tactful way that addressed the discrimination they face without having that be the sole thing defining who they are. The urban exploration in this book allowed it ...more

I had high expectations while waiting for the release date and The Ghost and the Wolf did not disappoint! The characters are all so vivid! There are a few that hold a special place in my heart and others I wouldnt mind dousing in gasoline (clearly the antagonists elicit strong emotions!). The idea behind The Broken organization had me seeing beauty in unexpected places. Reading about so many familiar places in St. Louis definitely made it fun but you dont have to be familiar with the city to ...more

I liked the premise of the book after reading the blurb and I have to admit that I was not disappointed. This is a fresh YA story about marginalized teens who find strength in each other to navigate through life. Life lessons are weaved clerverly into the plot and I enjoyed how the main heroes grew a little bit with every chapter. The plot was capturing and I found myself turning the pages to see how it all ends. Now I'm looking forward to read how the Pack's journey continues in book II of the ...more

~I received this book free though GoodReads First Reads~

A story about a budding journalist student who gets a lead on a promising good story that leads her into a world of urban exploration and a group of troubled 'broken' teens the seek to find the beauty in other broken things.

Although it took me a little to get into the book, it really picked up and left me wanting to know where the next book will lead.

This book had everything I look for in a mystery. Engaging characters, a wonderfully diverse cast, a gripping plot, and some spooky scenes to keep me on the edge of my seat. It even left a few questions unanswered (what happened to Lex at the truck stop?!), so now I'm eagerly awaiting the next book to follow Penelope and Lex on more adventures.

I was hooked from chapter 1. The characters are unique and flawed. They each have their own tragic back stories that led to their broken-ness. The story is exciting. I couldnt put it down until the end. Ill definitely be reading book 2. ...more
