Barbados' Most Wanted exposes the atmosphere and nature of the Barbadian criminal of yesteryear. It outlines the profiles of eleven of Barbados' most notorious criminals and the lives they lived. These men are Beulan 'Dr Rat' James, Sylverton 'Sandflies' Small, Simeon 'Buddy' Brathwaite, Mark Young, Alfred 'Al Capone' Harding, Winston Hall, David Oliver, Peter Bradshaw, Denzil Roberts, Sylvan 'Woggy' Clarke and Barry 'Barry Jack' Moore. Read the exciting accounts of these men whose very names struck terror in the hearts of Barbadians in the 1970s through the 1990s.
“✏️The common thread running through the lives of these men is that their socialisation and upbringing were wrought with challenges that likely played a significant role in their lives of crime. ~ Kim L. Ramsay, Barbados’ Most Wanted . . A well-researched and written examination of the most notorious criminals who roamed the Barbadian landscape. We got insight into their upbringing and factors that may or may not have led to their criminal activity as well as police procedure and the prison system. I loved the inclusion of the newspaper articles from the time period but wished they were clearer. Additionally, I loved the inclusion of the letters written by Sylverton Small and Mark Steve Young - especially Mark Young’s letter to wayward youth. I also loved the inclusion of the lyrics of some of the music which spoke to the issues plaguing the country at the time which is so indicative of the Barbadian/Caribbean culture. Although non-fiction, it was an easy read with a wealth of knowledge pertaining to Barbadian history not easily found in one place. Looking forward to reading the other two novels by the author. A very informative read!
