The world’s frozen over again and everyone is struggling in his or her own way to survive. Frank’s still stuck in the tiny town of Plainview. The snow pack is four feet deep now and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. But he and Josie are becoming closer and he’s okay with that. Inside Salt Mountain four hundred miles to the south Mark and Hannah are anguished. Hannah’s convinced not only that Frank is dead, but that she is somehow responsible. Eden South is overrun by brutal men who hold seventy five hostages. Marty’s best friend Lenny is the first to fall. But he won’t be the only one. And at Joint Base San Antonio, two surgeons who made an error in judgment await court martial and a possible sentence of death.
Mr Maloney continues to write about the possibility of things that could happen. He entertains us with wit, charm and reality. All of the characters are believable and have foibles as each of us do. This is another example of his talent. I have enjoyed all of his books and can highly recommend any of the other books.
Excellent reading!! The characters are interesting and relatable, the storyline is intriguing and plausible. There’s not a lot of blood, death and violence or the sexual violence like some authors feel the need to include in their writings. Great series for adults and YA. Looking forward to the next book.
The saga continues for Mark,Hannah and their group of friends. Eden is once again taken hostage. What will Marty and the others do to rid themselves of their captures?
And again... I so love this series. I just REALLY REALLY wish so many details weren't wrong! And not just little things or random, obscure things. For instance, in the first two chapters, Hannah and Mark are talking about it being 13 years since Saris 7 hit. Little Markie comes in and says he's almost 10. For starters, Hannah and Sarah didn't "discover" the meteorite at the same time. When Hannah stumbled across it, Sarah had already known about it for a year. Regarding Markie, he was born months after Saris 7 impacted making him almost 13, not 10. Additionally, a few books back talked about Markie being almost 11.
I'm not sure of the whole backstory of Marty and Lenny. I am sure that Marty designed the Trucker's field camp alone. I am also sure Lenny stayed in the backroom of the truck stop for the first few years of the initial freeze. He joined Marty and the others when he was lonely and afraid of marauders. He "bought" his way in with a truck of TV dinners and a trailer with cigarettes and alcohol.
Frank is being held by the DWYERS not the DYKES!!!
