Jade in the Snow is an action-packed adventure! This can be read as a stand alone, but is more enjoyable if you read the series in order. Slater is determined to start fresh with a new position, until the one he pushed away comes back into his life. Kat is so strong and will win you over from the moment you meet her. Louise Dawn has a way of inviting the reader into the story and making you feel as though your a part of it. Action, romance and drama - this book has it all!

This is the 4th book in this series. Derek and Kat were together at the start of this book and due to life that has happened to them both they seperated under upsetting circumstances. After some time has passed their paths cross again but Kat has a serial killer after her. this is a really good ex military romance very well written and the thread of the story has a really great twist to it. an emotional and on your edge of the seat book. I can’t believe Louise Dawn has slipped through my sites, because I loved JADE IN THE SNOW. And even though it’s the fourth book in her Mobile Intelligence Team (MIT) series, I didn’t feel lost. Slater was with her therapist and told him he had the dream again last night. This was his second therapist, the first one he couldn’t connect with. He respected Seth, he had also served his country like Slater/Derek and was Slater’s newly assigned MIT therapist. After Slater had been blown up by a grenade and had left his tier one team-Mobile Intelligence Team Two - he had a heart to heart with his MIT supervisor about his PTS issues. MIT therapist could discuss sensitive and classified mission Slater was with her therapist and told him he had the dream again last night. This was his second therapist, the first one he couldn’t connect with. He respected Seth, he had also served his country like Slater/Derek and was Slater’s newly assigned MIT therapist. Slater than started his career with the FBI. Slater had unique capabilities in training agents for overseas assignments. Slater told Seth” Everyone around me dies, people, relationships, my soul.” Seth said, “ That’s a destructive assumption that prevents you from healing.” Slater had a new life life that didn’t include killing , explosions, or ex-girlfriends. Now he’d be training and saving lives, instead of exterminating them. It was nine p.m. and Kate/Kat couldn’t wait to be done with this blind date and get home to her bed. Rolf just wasn’t her idea of a good date no one had been since Derek. Today is her birthday and Kat spent it with a stranger. Kat was building up her clientele in a new business-Virtual Consultant-while preparing for a book launch which took all her time. Slater went over to caseys- his cousin and one of his best friends- and Kat was there- the lights had gone out. Kat left shortly after Slater/Derek got there. The next morning as she waited for her plane Kat knew she could never see Derek again. She harbored a dangerous secret that could destroy Derek’s world.
Excellent book, I absolutely loved it. I didn’t want to put this down and I rarely did. I loved everything about this book. I loved Slater and Kat together and how they interacted. I absolutely loved the ending. I loved the action, intrigue, and danger. I loved the author showed from PTS and some ways to help the vets heal. I loved how protective Slater was of kat.No Matter what - together or apart. I have a new favorite novel. I loved Slater and all the men and women that thought of him as family even when he didn’t work with them and they were there to help him anyway they could. Kat was also included in that family. I loved the pace and the plot. I loved the characters and the twists and turns of this book and I highly recommend it.

I can't remember the last time I was this back-and-forth on whether or not I liked a book. I believe there are more positive thoughts though, so I'm going to go with that!

The writing itself was engaging, and the story's concept was great. I'm not usually a fan of second-chance-love stories, but the particular situations these two found themselves in was unique and it was done really well! The story was fast paced with a good amount of suspense, and the surprises/dramatic reveals definitely keep I can't remember the last time I was this back-and-forth on whether or not I liked a book. I believe there are more positive thoughts though, so I'm going to go with that!

The story was fast paced with a good amount of suspense, and the surprises/dramatic reveals definitely keep readers on their toes!

I think what I keep getting caught up on is that it felt like I read three different books. The beginning felt rushed and disjointed, almost like I was missing something? I haven't read the other books in the series so I'm not sure if that's why I felt this way, but the first 30% of the book was hard to buy into. Also while I love the nickname "Derry", trying to get into the story while the main character was referred to by 4 different names at random was a little hard. I was really annoyed with multiple characters, and the story felt like it was coming in snippets instead of coherently. It's hard to describe. Then the middle of the book was good! The story hit a groove, we got to meet some secondary characters, and everything filled out more.

I actually really loved the end following about the 80% mark, from the opening of the facility onward. The ending wasn't rushed, emotions were high, and it had a satisfying conclusion with openings for other stories to continue on. However, it felt like the characters changed pretty dramatically from earlier. It also had the issue that most books in a series have in the beginning, which is introducing the reader to a big group of characters from earlier books all at once. This is obviously when having read the previous books would come in handy! But with all of the action going on it was a bit much to also be juggling that many new people and be able to clearly follow what was happening, as well as feel emotionally connected to them.

I will say there are some things I just absolutely loved. I won't ever be over that beginning meet-cute at the 5K, it was perfect! Kat's bit of Irish accent coming through in the dialogue was just the right touch. The Piece Club was fantastic, and the visits always felt perfectly placed throughout the story. And the romance, while not always timed the best, was very hot! I've also never heard anyone other than me say "holy cannoli", so this book will hold a place in my heart forever because of that!

I'm excited to see how the next in the series goes, and I'm tempted to go back and read the other books and get to know these characters more!

First read for me by this author, this story deals with a former couple. Derek and Kathleen. Derek is former military and suffers from PTSD. They developed a relationship and due to certain tragedies, they broke apart. When they meet up again, they realize that their love never died. Louise Dawn's latest Slater thriller effectively mixes pacing, plot and fascinating characters to create a page turner you won't want to put down. She addresses the important PTSD issue with the right balance of sensitivity and visceral reality. It gives us a good insight into the complexities of Slater's motivations and struggles. This is a good book to really sink you teeth into. A sweet romance with a military hero and a heroin with an issue of her own. Sometimes the woman just needs to be stronger.

Follow their romance when he finds out what she's been hiding and he won't take no for an answer when it comes to her safety. It will keep you emotionally invested as well as highly entertained.

Simply fabulous

I have said this before and I will say it again, each of the books in this series gets better and better. Louise Dawn weaves a such great storylines. I don't believe in spoilers, but I will say Derek Slater Banez and Kathleen Flynn are made for each other. I really loved this book. I'm aware that this is the fifth book and I did not read the previous ones. But this can be read as a standalone and it is definitely gripping and keeps your interest.

This is a stand alone novel but fans of the author are going to love this books.
The story is decently written keeping reading finishing the book quickly. Readers will connect with the characters and enjoy the romance as well as the threat that happens along the action packed way.
