Shawn Matthews never imagined he’d be living out of his car, trying to make ends meet, but life doesn’t always go your way—he knows that better than most. When an accident leaves the Clean Slate Ranch shorthanded, Shawn is enlisted to help cook and finds

I really like the setting of AM Arthur's Clean Slate Ranch series, the found families and friendships between the men and women involved are joyous to behold.

The series has been mostly a hit for me and this fourth book is no exception to the rule. However, I also found both of the characters frustrating at times and I simply couldn't understand why Robin had such a sticking point over telling people how his husband had died.

I mean, I totally got the trauma of his husband's death, the guilt over
Thanks to Carina Press and Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoy this series. It's fun to read about sexy cowboys falling in love with each other. :) I love being able to see all of the characters from the past few books interacting in this one, building lives with each other and their respective partners.

Overall, these fluffy MM romances with a little bit of realism (tragic events in this one, sadly) usually just make me happy and ease some

I'm dnf'ing at 28%. I've not read this author before and I guess her writing, at least on this book, isn't for me.

ALL the feels in this book! All of them! 4.5 stars for me, as the emotion and beauty of the relationship helped offset the sometimes total lack of communication!

I absolutely love this series from AM Arthur - super emotional, a nice blend of city and cowboy, and a great group of characters that are family to each other. This is a sweet, slow-paced-burn romance, where there is a second chance of love for Robin, a chance for Shawn to find true love in all forms, and for both of them to find a

Lucky Break was a wonderful story. It was an emotional read with a storyline that was intriguing and interesting. Shawn and Robin have back-stories that were heart-breaking but were also poignant. They brought joy and hope to each other and, together, they were able to overcome obstacles that they both thought were unobtainable. Shawn kept to himself. He didn’t want anyone to know what his situation was. But, when it comes out, he can’t help but be grateful to Sheriff Bradley and to Arthur ...more

A lovely addition to the Clean Slate Ranch series, this story features Shawn, the assistant cook at the ghost-town saloon who helped Miles when his abusive ex showed up in Saddle Up, book three. Robin, one of the ranch hands, befriends Shawn after an initial minor hostility due to the fact Shawn looks like Robin’s former husband, Xander, who died in a rodeo accident three years before. But once Robin gets to know him, the resemblance takes a back seat because Shawn is a completely different ...more
A wonderful addition to A.M. Arthur’s Clean Slate Ranch series, Lucky Break is just as unique as each of the previous stories in this series. While all the Clean Slate books could be read as standalones, the friendships build as the story progresses and I think you’d enjoy them better when read in order.

Opposites attract with a bit of an age gap, Lucky Break is a romantic, slow burn romance. The chemistry between the men is clear from the start, but both of the main characters have some serious

This is a great installment in the clean Slate Ranch series. Lucky Break is a very heartwarming love story. Shawn's struggling to stand on his own two feet and make ends meet while searching for his place in the world. Robin's making it day by day after losing his husband in a tragic accident he blames himself for. The way they come together is very sweet and slow. It's not breakneck speed, there's no outside drama or angst. It's just two people healing themselves

3.5 stars ... I have enjoyed this series and the range of characters. This was an enjoyable read but I found Shawn & Robin a bit annoying. Too much “miscommunication” Maybe it was their brooding or just that I wanted to shake them !
3.5 stars.

I've read and really loved every book in this series.

A.M. Arthur does a wonderful job of giving us three-dimensional characters who have open, honest conversations as they are trying to come to terms with their pasts. Clean Slate Ranch is a place to heal and re-connect, and I just love it. You can expect the same treatment with Shawn and Robin's story in Lucky Break.

The communication and consent and exploration that was here was my favorite part of their story. Robin is bi and a

Lucky Break was truly such an endearing story like this whole series has been. Now, this review will be much shorter because I forgot I hadn't reviewed it so hopefully, I remember what I need to. Now this story is a M/M love, there is something about seeing two men together in romance. I can't get enough of it. In this book, we see two people that have lived in some tough situations.

Our two main characters are:

-Shawn Matthews --is living in

I want to thank A. M. Arthur and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review Lucky Break. I read the first two books about Clean Slate Ranch and loved them. So when I saw this book on NetGalley I jumped at the chance to read it.

I was not disappointed. It was wonderful to reconnect with the characters I loved in the first books. I enjoyed reading about Shawn and Robin as they slowly revealed their secrets and fell in love. All the Clean Slate Ranch books are good stories with a lot of

I loved getting back on the ranch with everyone. We get more of the day to day going on which I really loved. Shawn is homeless having to send most of his money home to help his grandparents. His grandmother has Alzheimer and his grandfather is taking care of her. He is living out of his vehicle and has for several years. He is worried when the Ghost Town is closed down because he won't have a job. But and unfortunate accident happens and he finds himself with work up at the main house. Robin is ...more

Lucky Break was my first book by A.M. Arthur and I loved it. Shawn and Robin were so real and amazing together. I loved the story and the writing. I really want to read the first 3 books now and certainly the next one!

Lucky Break is the fourth book in the Clean Slate Ranch series by author A.M. Arthur. I really enjoyed this story. I have not read the previous books in this story and I was not lost starting with this title.
Shawn is a seasonal sous chef at the local saloon. He is about to be jobless for a few months while the saloon goes on break. He is not looking forward to living out of his car, but he does not have a ton of options going for him. This town is the first place in five years that he has felt

I had a hard time getting into the story. Maybe it's just me, or the writing wasn't for me, yet.
I had to give this one another chance though.
Soon as my mood get back again, I will come back.
Maybe it's wise for me by not rating this.
Who knows?

This is my first A.M. Arthur book, but it certainly won't be my last. I love the sense of community she created with the Ranch and I'll definitely be downloading the previous books in the series to learn the stories of how the rest of the couples got together.

I loved how Shawn and Robin's relationship grew slowly over time. They both had some hard things happen to them in their pasts and it felt realistic how slowly

I'm a sucker for cowboys as well as MM romance stories, so when you combine the two I jump at the chance to read them. This the fourth book in the Clean Slate Ranch series. We meet Shawn Matthews earlier on in the series as well as Robin Butler.

Even though we met them both previously I didn't expect to see them together, and it ended being a great unexpected coupling and a great match.

Shawn keeps his life secret from everyone even his co-workers and friends. When his secret comes out, Shawn

I had a really hard time getting into this book. Although the characters were likable, everything just seemed way too easy and the writing made it very hard for me to engage. Everyone in the book are super communicative and open about their thoughts to the point that it seemed very unrealistic. Beyond that, every internal thought and interaction was explained by the author to be sure that the reader understood EXACTLY why the character said or did what they did. It left me feeling like it was a ...more

Among the plethora of this authors books I have enjoyed, this is one of the few I had a hard time enjoying and sticking with. I hate that the rating system considers 3 stars as negative. For me it just means I liked it okay, simply didn’t enjoy it to the level I prefer. Shawn and Robin are the right sort of characters for the ranch turned gay haven, with troubled histories impacting their ability to seek romantic connections. They do manage to get together, follow a slow path to intimacy and ...more

This is the fourth book in the series, and I have a great fondness for the inhabitants of the Clean Slate Ranch. I would recommend that you read them in order, as the story is ongoing, but this would be a good read to entice you into the ranch too.

As regular readers will know, the people who work at the ranch have often had a difficult past, and Clean Slate Ranch (CSR) has given them a place to recover and grow. Robin

Lucky Break is the fourth book in the Clean Slate Ranch series. You don't have to read the books in order to understand each individual couple but it does make for a better read to have read the past books. This book concentrates on the relationship between Shawn and Robin.

Robin, the horseman on the ranch, has had a painful past. His husband died three years ago leaving Robin in a terrible place in his life. That's how

Lucky Break is the fourth book in A.M. Athur’s Clean Slate Ranch series. While the main characters from the first three books all appear here, as well as assorted side characters, this story does stand alone plot-wise. All you really need to know is that most of these guys are friends/co-workers of Shawn and Robin. But being familiar with the past books will give you a nice feel for the rhythms of the series and the key characters, so I think it would enhance

He never imagined he’d be living out his car trying to make ends meet, but life doesn’t always go your way and Shawn Matthews knows that better than most. An accident has Shawn bunking next to the sexiest cowboy he’s ever laid eyes on. Shawn is the spitting image of Robin Butler’s late husband, so he does his best to avoid the soft-spoken cook. The tension between them practically sizzles and maybe finding each other – and a second chance at love- is the lucky break they both need.

I'll admit that I almost stopped reading when Robin got spooked by Shawn's uncanny resemblance to Xander, his dead partner. I mean, this kind of stories always leave me with a niggle of doubt. Really, how much can you trust someone that says: "you could be my beloved deceased husband's twin, but I love YOU!" I ,and call me a cynic, would always question how much of those feelings are because of the resemblance or ,in fact, for myself.

That being said, I'm glad I didn't stop reading. Overlooking the

This was good, not great, and certainly not the best book in the series. But I still enjoyed it and found myself wanting to read to find out what exactly happened in their past to make them so skittish. I felt that Shawn and Robin kept a lot hidden from one another for too long in the book. I got that they were in a new relationship and had to build that trust. But it made the book drag on longer than I think was needed.

Robin came off more immature than Shawn at times, despite Robin being 8

This was a slow burn romance, I usually don't like those but it worked for me this time. I loved how patient Robin was with Shawn and went slow with him. The age gap is only 8 years but each man had things in their past that made the wait worth it this time. There were a few times I wanted to jump in the book and shake both Robin and Shawn because if you just talk about your hurts and get things off your chest it helps with communication.

AM Arthur is one of my all time favourite authors and Lucky Break only confirmed that. Lucky Break was the perfect combination of angst, friends-to-lovers, cute cooks and sexy cowboys.
Shawn and Robin are both dealing with issues from their pasts which are still impacting their lives today. A serious of events conspires to throw the two men together, a beautiful friendship develops between the two of them and before long sexy times and feelings come into the mix.

This is such a sweet, slow burn romance. Shawn has had nowhere to call home for a couple of years now but when his employers at Clean Slate Ranch find out that he has been living in his car they insist that he takes accommodation with them while he provides cover for their injured cook. I had mixed feelings about this book. I really liked the main character, Shawn. He was a lovely guy who had been through a hell of a lot. One of the biggest challenges I had with the story was that nearly everyone was gay! I refer to these kinds of books as "Gay Disneyland'. When most of the ranch hands turned out to be gay and all partnered in healthy relationships ... I began to find it difficult to suspend my disblief.

I also had trouble with the fact that every character in the novel was

No stranger to the writing world, A.M. Arthur has been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long. She credits an early fascination with male friendships (bromance wasn't a thing yet) with her later discovery of and subsequent affair with m/m romance stories. When not writing, she can be found in her kitchen, pretending she's an amateur chef and ...more
