Ok, I can live with the lack of character development. I really wanted to like this book. Many will like it. I could only read about 25% of it before "putting it down."
The main reason? When the mayhem hits, it's hard to know why the terrorists are doing what they are doing and what their strategy is. It's like, "suddenly people are getting shot up." Ok, fine.
People will like this book regardless because it affects their sense of security, feeling under siege by bad elements. People like those stories, don't we all?
Also, one annoying thing was the daughter of the main character and her friend leaving their dorms. The friend wanted to get her sunglasses, but the daughter said no, we don't have time. Well, sunglasses can be very useful, particularly in a dangerous, outdoor situation.
In other words, the writer alludes to actions without explaining them. Like eminent danger is ahead, we have to leave immediately. Without saying so and the daughter already knowing the mayhem is ahead without really knowing the situation. Too bad.
