I gave this a three because my own copy is outdated. I first bought this book in 1974 or 75 and my copy was then in it's 7th printing. Much has changed from then but even more has stayed the same. I have used this book for a reference for many years, but never read it through--cover-to-cover until now. This year I have just had more of a renewed interest to improve my gardening skills, which have slacked off in the last 6 or 7 years.
This is an excellent book. The Rodale Institute is all about being kind to the earth, organic practices, and against pesticides. Much of what I reread is applicable forever, since it has to do with growing a home garden and vegetables.
It was good to refresh my mind on many things I already knew, but had forgotten.

Good Read. If there is an up to date version, it would be good to follow it's advice if you are a home gardener.

found this book cleaning out my neighbor's attic, there's a section in the book called "Leave it to the birds!" which encourages feeding laxatives to the birds in your neighborhood to boost the fertility of your soil.
