Ravenwood Academy #1

Ravenwood Academy: Year One: Wolf Moon

Rate this book
All Timberlyn wants is to get out of her small town, where she's branded a freak just because she happens to wear all black and draw gruesome monsters in her notebooks.

When a letter arrives saying she's been accepted to the mysterious Ravenwood Academy for the Exceptionally Gifted, she jumps at the chance. Never mind that she's not sure what she's supposedly gifted at, or the fact that she doesn't remember actually applying there.

When she arrives, the school seems like a dream full of beautiful people ready to befriend her. There's only one problem with Ravenwood: it's run by the Wolf brothers, three surly, thuggish, insanely gorgeous guys. Timberlyn's new friends give strict instructions to stay far away from them.

Unfortunately, she's not good at taking orders.

When girls at the school begin disappearing, Timberlyn refuses to maintain the status quo. She's sure the Wolf boys are up to something, and if she has to, she'll take them down herself. That is, if they don't take her down first.

DNF - quit at 52%
This started off interestingly enough, & held my attention. Though the flow is a bit slow. But as I progressed, I felt the main character, Timberlyn, deteriorated as a viable main character. I started to not like her -at all. She started as a strong character, who I felt would be interesting to follow along in the book. But she starts doing stupid decisions for no reason, loosing my interest in her, since she was behaving in the typical horror story female way, too stupid to live, absolutely no self-preservation instincts. The Wolf's (pack of brothers with the last name of Wolf & suspected of being wolf shifters) were just not likable at all. There is nothing likeable about them, there isn't even chemistry to account for anything that makes Timberlyn not able to resist them. By 52% nothing really was progressing in the story, except for the missing girls from the school. There was nothing there to hold my attention.

At my age, life is to short & my time to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

Another example of a book starting off very good and then ruined by sloppy characterization and too many cliches.

This book started off on a promising note - a gutsy Goth-girl type heroine Timberlyn getting `called`to a special school.
She is portrayed as smart and witty.

And then author ruins it all once she reaches the new `special`academy.
From then on its all hot bad boys, vampy girls, heroine getting bullied etc etc.

From a bold and smart heroine, Timberlyn is rapidly reduced to a silly boy-crazy obsessed idiot who cannot hold a normal conversation with the guy she has a crush on.
There is no more info on her drawings or her nightmare monsters.

2 girls are missing and many suspect her cos she is absent both times.
Why? Why would anyone suspect a girl with no connection to the missing ones just cos she is new?
The way it is portrayed , it just looks like a way to force a setting of heroine being bullied.

Timberlyn is covertly accused by her peers of being involved in the case of missing students.
She obviously doesnt like being accused; however she has no qualms accusing Alarick of being involved. Why?
She then immediately decides to investigate them - by sneaking into their private spaces (you can almost see in your head how it will go).
Again, why?
Who put her in charge of this investigation?
Why are there no law enforcement agents in place?

Finally - the Wolf boys. Very original name.
They are like the cool ones.
And surprise surprise, they are all in same classes with heroine.
They are introduced as all fearsome scary ones whose eyes you shouldnt catch.
But apparently all they do is stare at heroine, issue nonsensical threat to her, walk around looking huge and maintain a harem in school.

I do admit that I am out of touch with todays high school system, but it is hard to imagine a small town school where a guy no matter how hot, is able to take 2 girls out for a threesome in full view of public. Is this a school or a se-x club in Vegas?

I wanted to like this book. But I couldn’t. It started out strong then it collapsed under the weight of the stupidity of the main character. She spends the entire book feeling shivers, getting the shivers, shivering uncontrollably. OH MY GOD we get it you shiver geez. There is zero chemistry between her and any of the male characters unless you count....you got it HER SHIVERS! There are plot elements introduced that are quickly discarded and then forgotten. What exactly was up with Lindy??? Why was Gramma bonkers and all mysterious? Why did Delilah become a player so late in the game? This book was ludicrous. Everyone just keeps telling the MC to get laid. (She’s 15! Like wow ok) She keeps making stupid decisions and her friends serve no purpose but to be pretty accessories. Also we’re supposed to believe the Wolf family patriarch just scours the world looking for lonely 15yr old girls for his sons? Its high school. Damn near everyone feels alone at some point, he could have just gone to one school to recruit if that’s the case. This was just so far fetched even for fantasy. I did give it two stars though for the first two chapters when I still full of hope that this book wouldn’t be as bad as it actually turned out to be.

This is a nearly 5 ⭐️read for me...soo close I nearly just put that lucky little number there! I have no doubt by the following book it will receive it 😀

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book...I literally got so caught up in it, that when I finally came up for some air hours had passed. Like was there a sneaky little someone changing the time on me??

This story developed very nicely, and I enjoyed "learning" things as the MC did - I say "learn" because some things were very obvious to me but it didn't take away from the shroud of mystery surrounding the particular setup of this novel. I also really enjoyed the fighting spirit of Timberlyn and how she never just accepted things how they were and fought for what she thought was right even when the odds were stacked against her. She was a girl that had always been knocked down but always got back up and refused to be pushed around even if she was terrifed...in fact the more threatened she felt the more likely she was to not stop talking and throw out a snarky remark. So I really enjoyed this MC I feel a lot of development will be seen further throughtout this series.

There was seriously a lot to love about this book. The characters we meet are fantastically drawn out for us, the world-building although slow (following her and what she learns) it was set up in a way that only intrigued and wanting to read more. So great work there!

We have to talk about her friends she makes along the way and the Wolf brothers because the story does revolve around them lol but before I do this let me take you back a little over the story itself.

So this story follows a young 15 year old, Timberlyn, who has been continually bullied since Middle School after sharing with her friends that she dreams of monsters and draws them. This marks her as a freak in the eyes of school kids and from here is treated as such. Regardless of how much she is bullied during school she has had dreams of not only monsters and wolves but this other girl at her school Lindy, who is also continually bullied. Timberlyn takes it upon herself to stick up for the girl and protect her even while in the process she is desperately seeking for an out from her town. She has made so many submissions to Private Schools all around the place. When she is close to losing hope of getting out of the town, she receives an Envelope of acceptance to Ravenwood Academy. She at first thinks its a hoax as she herself never applied but not thinking maybe her Gramma sent through something she doesn't dwell too much on it. So off she goes to Ravenwood Academy.

Her first day checking into the school she gets a not so nice welcome from 1 out of the 4 Wolf's who practically lord over the school. Everyone doing their bidding without a blink or stutter. Here's a sneak peek of her first interaction with the one guy that she just can't seem to shake from her head.

“Stop right there.” The voice was so commanding that the four of us halted midstride, halfway to the door of the imposing building I’d seen in the photo online. The iron gates had allowed us in, but now a guy who must be a student strode toward us through the spitting rain, a scowl etched into his sculpted face. Despite his grim expression, he was unquestionably gorgeous, with shiny golden hair raked back from a high forehead, chiseled cheekbones, and wide, full lips that made my stomach flutter when I looked at them.
“We’re here to enroll,” Mom said, sounding nervous. I didn’t blame her. Despite the guy looking young and wearing navy slacks, a white buttoned shirt, and a navy-and-red plaid tie that must be the school uniform, his enormous build gave him a commanding air.
“Who is?” he asked, his eyes moving over the group and locking on me. My heart did that stupid little flip again, but this time, it was accompanied by a rush of adrenaline. I knew a guy hopped up on his own importance when I saw one. I hadn’t endured years of bullying without learning a thing or two about intimidation. The guy’s eyes widened, then narrowed, his nostrils flaring. “You must have the wrong school.”
“Ravenwood, right?” Dad asked with forced, blustery cheer. “Our GPS got us here, so it must be the right school.”
“I suggest your GPS take you elsewhere,” the guy said, glaring at me like I’d personally shit all over his parade.
“Thanks,” I said. “But unless you’re in charge of admissions, you don’t decide who’s gifted enough to go here and who’s not. I’ve already been accepted. Now, if you’ll excuse us, I think we’ve stood in the rain long enough.”

I totally forgot to mention her friends...she in particular makes 2 really good friends...which in itself was beautiful to see...especially since she hasn't had friends since before Middle Grade so I loved that she found her people so to speak...so welcome Svana and Viktor. Towards the end she also made another friend as well, Amy. These characters were pretty full of life especially Amy but Svana and Viktor appeared more as the reserved kind of friends but loyal and determined for the friendship to work. Which I loved. I'm used to having the super sassy bff's but with Timberlyn I think they complimented her character perfectly. I can't wait to see more of these friendships as they grow even more. *

*Just note my spoiler brackets do give a fair bit away and how the story ends so read at own risk

There's a lot of secrets at Ravenwood Academy and Timberlyn is determined to rattle things up a little bit.

"I didn’t know why I couldn’t stop provoking them. I knew I was poking a beast, but I couldn’t contain my curiosity about them. I had to know. More than that, I couldn’t stand them having so much power, thinking they ran the world. If I couldn’t unseat them from their thrones, maybe I could at least unsettle them. I could be the earthquake that shook the ground their thrones sat on, make them sweat a little."

Better watch out Ravenwood coz Timberlyn is not ready to just accept things as they are and she's not so easily pushed around. You've been warned Wolf's. Douchery gets you nowhere...

And when I found out the next book doesn't come out until November I'm certain this was my reaction.

I really need to work on strengthening and working that readers muscle called patience its an annoying trait to work on...but yeah I know, I know November is only a couple of months but still I need to know more. Like I seriously just loved that ending and for me I think the story is only going to soar from here.

Thank you soo much Lena Mae Hill for the honour of reading this book early!!!...I thoroughly enjoyed this first book of yours. I am honestly intrigued now to go find more of your books...give em to me already lol.

Anywho I'll leave it at that for now because I have unloaded A LOT in this review.

But if you love a spunky MC that's determined to get answers no matter what then you will love this Academy Series.

Now I just gotto deal with the real world...

I went the audiobook route with this one and the narrator did a great job! I really had high hopes from this book. The premise was nice and the MC, despite being 15, sounded sharp and strong in the beginning. However, my hopes started to dwindle as the book continued. I realized that once the book was finished this series is not for me sadly. She kept making dumb mistakes and putting not only herself in danger but at one point even her friends.

I had so many questions and a lot of it were never explained even at the end. There was lot of mystery surrounded around MC, the a-hole boys, kids going to her school and school overall. However, there wasn't anything solved or explained properly per se.

Not to mention, the whole mystery of missing girls - once the reasoning was told towards the end was so flimsy. I found no chemistry between Aleric and Timberlyn. The boys were supposed to be "dangerous" and a-holes....however, it was never shown or explained what they did to achieve that title. All it was the hallway would go silent every time they passed. I just wanted more interaction between characters. I would have liked more from the story/world building overall.

Sadly, I will not be continuing with the series.

Wolf Moon is book one in the Ravenwood Academy series. We meet our MC Timberlyn as she receives a letter stating she has been invited to attend this unique school called Ravenwood Academy for the Exceptionally Gifted. Timberlyn is honestly confused as to how or why she'd be invited to enroll at this school.. She doesn't think she is gifted, but she still jumps at this opportunity either way.

Her first day she runs into the Wolf brothers, one by one. The Wolf Brothers "run" the school, and they are not Timberlyn's biggest fans by any means. They instruct her to stay far away from them for some reason. As the days go on, girls start to disappear.. Timberlyn fully believes the Wolf Bros have something to do with it. But there's obviously a twist in there that I can't give away in a review.

I will say that I really did enjoy Timberlyn's character. She often had the odds stacked against her, but she never just saw back and took it. She always fought back and continued on regardless. The character development in this book was amazing. My only complaint is that I didn't really feel much of an attachment to any of the Wolf Brothers. Nonetheless, I'll definitely be reading more of the series.

What a fantastic academy read! A well written slow burn romance that hooks you from the very start so much so that you will not want it to finish! Action packed this has a fantastic storyline that had me on the edge of my seat, a kick ass heroine and some hot and sexy wolf boys!! I am so enjoying this world that the author has built and cannot wait to see the characters continue to develop!

I enjoyed the story and I loved how sassy the MC is and how she finds her place in her new school. Besides the massive cliffhanger we’re left with, there were some other mysteries that I’d love to get to the bottom of (her dreams). The only thing that wasn’t my favorite was the MC’s instalove for one of the characters.

Wolf Moon is mysterious and slowly builds to an explosive ending. Book one introduces you to Timberlyn, a tenacious heroine, who has strange dreams and simply wants to go to school without the taunts of the mean girls.

I'm definitively interested in seeing where book 2 takes this story.

It was fun! Very YA. I had fun reading it.

We have this girl who doesn't fit in, obviously, she gets invited to a boarding school in Canada for "gifted" kids that she didn't apply for nor does she know what "gift" got her accepted. Does she question it? Surprisingly, yes, for about 3 seconds, then she decides she's desperate enough not to give a shit. Which, honestly, catch me as a middle/high schooler and same, where do I sign?
The parents immediately assumed Grandma signed her up for it because she lives near the school, totally understandable, and since grandma isn't all there mentally anymore... we are just gonna assume she did it. So, after minimal research, the parents loved the schoom and are totally on board.

Now, this mysterious school for the gifted should mean our MC is special and has some cool hidden powers, right? Wrong! She's just crazy.
This girl can't seem to stop getting her nose where it doesn't belong, and I absolutely love her complete disregard for logic and self-preservation. She sees danger and thinks, "Let's see what happens if I do this." It's absolutely hilarious.
This is the kind of girl who pokes a bear and wonders why it attacked her. It's delightful to watch her wonder why she stands out while she blatantly attempts to stand out. She thinks she's a regular Nancy Drew, and I'm here for it because she is terrible at it. Our girl couldn't find her nose with a mirror in front of her.

To top our MCs antics we are faced with the insta friends who would sacrifice their lives for a girl they just met, as you do. I actually love the insta friends and would love to know where I can get some of those.

Thought we were done? Lol, not quite. Did I mention the sexy, dangerous, broody boys who run the school? I didn't? Ooooh, it's very fun. Everyone warns her to stay away from this horribly dangerous boys, which is like throwing matches to a flame. We all know that when a female MC is told to stay away from dangerous, sexy guys, that's code for immediately become obsessed with them. Duh. So... you guessed it. She's totally obsessed with them. But does she think she's in love? Absolutely not! Not our girl! She thinks they're murderers. Which immediately means they are not the guilty party because we know how this works. So, WHO DID IT!? Find out next time on DragonBall Z lol.

Quite fun. Will definitely continue the series.

“That’s where they hide. In the woods. That’s Ravenwood Forest. The town of Ravenwood is just over the mountain. That’s where your school is.” - Gramma

Timberlyn has always been somewhat of an outcast at her school and bullied for being different. Her drawings of the monsters that have plagued her dreams since childhood are a particular source of ridicule. When a letter arrives stating that she has been accepted at the mysterious Ravenwood Academy for the Exceptionally Gifted, she jumps at the chance for a fresh start, despite the fact that she doesn’t remember ever applying there.

On the day of enrolment, Timberlyn is disconcerted when she runs into a hostile boy at the main gate who warns her to leave. Surprised by his animosity, Timberlyn refuses to let him intimidate her. Her roommate Delilah does little to dispel her doubts and rebuffs her attempts at friendship. Luckily Timberlyn finds a friend in Svana and her brother Viktor.

Timberlyn comes to realise that the Academy is run by the Wolf brothers, three surly, thuggish and insanely gorgeous guys. Timberlyn recognises their leader, Alarick, as the antagonistic boy who told her to leave on her first day. Despite their enmity towards her as well as her friends warning her to stay away from them, Timberlyn can’t help feeling drawn to them:

"I didn’t know why I couldn’t stop provoking them. I knew I was poking a beast, but I couldn’t contain my curiosity about them. I had to know. More than that, I couldn’t stand them having so much power, thinking they ran the world. If I couldn’t unseat them from their thrones, maybe I could at least unsettle them. I could be the earthquake that shook the ground their thrones sat on, make them sweat a little."

Unbeknownst to Timberlyn however, Ravenwood Academy is hiding a dark secret and when two girls go missing, she is determined to uncover the truth. Her investigation leads to a terrifying discovery in the forest surrounding the academy that Timberlyn recognises from her dreams.

“What?” I said. It was a moment before I saw what she saw, the thing I felt. My heart stopped. A dark formless black swirled in front of us, and inside it glowed a pair of white eyes without pupils. My dream. I knew it was the thing from my nightmare..

Just what is the dark formless smoke hiding in the shadows of the forest? Timberlyn’s determination to uncover the truth will come at a terrible price...

Wolf Moon is the first instalment of the Ravenwood Academy series and was my first introduction to the author. The book introduces fifteen year old Timberlyn who is plagued by nightmares as well as vivid dreams of people before she has met them. Bullied by her peers at school in Arkansas, she jumps at the chance to start a new life when she’s given a placement at Ravenwood Academy in Canada. Unfortunately the Academy is not what it seems and when two girls go missing, Timberlyn discovers that they are not the only students to have gone missing over the years. Determined to uncover the veil of secrecy surrounding the Academy as well as the Wolf brothers, Timberlyn soon finds herself out of her depth.

Timberlyn is a resilient, tenacious, snarky and defiant protagonist. The Wolf brothers, who consist of Alarick, Adolf and Donavan, were intriguing and I look forward to exploring their backgrounds in further detail. At times I felt that the book might have benefited from including Alarick’s point of view.

The secondary characters were interesting. It was apparent throughout that Delilah, Svana and Viktor were keeping secrets from Timberlyn but their reasons are a mystery. Gramma was a particularly interesting character and I suspect she is not as absent minded as she makes out.

All in all, the book was fast paced with lots of twists and turns to keep the reader engrossed. The author has deftly managed to introduce the main characters and lay the foundation for what looks to be a promising series. I look forward to learning more about the Wolf brothers and exploring Timberlyn’s unknown ‘gift’ as well as the mysterious presence in the forest.

I received an advanced free audible copy of Wolf Moon which was narrated by Vanessa Moyen. Her clear, concise delivery made it easy to differentiate between characters.

I am currently so obsessed with the Academy book trend going on right now in the Indy world, and Year One:Wolf Moon was such a great new installment for me to get lost in. The best way to classify this story would be an Academy story with the perfect amount of drama and angsty meets a paranormal mystery.

The entire plot was mysterious, from the main character, Timberlyn, feeling out of sorts and unwanted at her regular school/life, to her strange acceptance at a new boarding school she has never heard about, to the power of the Wolf brothers over everyone else at the school, and the huge issue of the missing girls. Timberlyn has always been curious and tries her boundaries, so instead of taking her new start and rolling with it, she wants answers and completely upsets the status quo and I loved that about her.

The book was an incredibly fast read, something I finished in a day. The ending was as big a cliffhanger as can come and I need more now. I have so many questions and tons of concerns that I need answered so there is no doubt that I will continue on in the series. This is my first read by this author and now I am excited to jump into more of her stories. This is perfect for anyone who likes spunky awkward heroines, aloof love interests, paranormal mysteries and wolves.

As a side note. I listened to the audiobook and this narrator is easily one of my favorites. I have listened to her do many other audios and I love that she brings life and personality to all the characters and each one gets their own voice so I never have confusion who is talking. I will gladly listen to more audiobooks be narrated by her.

Audio book review
Book 1 in the series . This story had me listening all day . I couldn’t put it down . This audio is not only reverse harem with Wolfs but full of mystery and suspense. .
What happens when the heroine , Timberlyn, gets a letter to an academy that she doesn’t remember applying to . It’s for gifted people. Timberlyn doesn’t think she’s gifted all she knows is she’s called a freak for having weird dreams , always wearing black and drawing weird pictures. She also has dreams about wolfs she feels connect to . Once she gets to the academy that is where everything happens. She makes 2 great friends, which she never had back home , Girls go missing, nobody knows why . 4 gorgeous guys with sky blue eyes are being hostile to her , she doesn’t know why . One of them Alaric warns her off from going to the school from day one . Alaric and Timberlyn has a chemistry, which is scorching hot but she still doesn’t know why he is nasty to her. She finally figures what is going on it all happens in the woods in a hut . Thing is once she enters the hut everything falls into place . She knows Alaric was only trying to protect her , from what ? Is the school for gifted people , Do the other's have gifts what are they . Who did she shoot in the cabin . You need to listen to this to get answers . Can’t wait for book 2 .
Vanessa Moyen performance was great . Her voice is strong, smooth and steady. She did all the characters great

This is the first novel in the Ravenwood Academy trilogy of young adult paranormal mystery by Lena Mae Hill. The main mysteries introduced in this book are resolved by the end, but the story ends on an excruciating cliffhanger, so I wouldn’t recommend starting this unless you’re willing to read the whole series in order. It’s great fun, so I do recommend the series to fans of this genre.

I liked the premise of this book, with a bullied misfit who dreams of monsters finding friendship and intrigue at a mysterious private academy. I know that academy books have been quite the trend recently, but this is the first one I’ve read, and I really enjoyed it.

I liked the characters, and I can’t wait to get to know them better. Our main character, 15-year-old Timberlyn, is impulsive and sometimes reckless, but that makes sense for her age. Her grandmother is funny, and I wonder what secrets she might be hiding. All of Timberlyn’s classmates seem to have secrets, too, only some of which are revealed in this first book.

This was a quick read that easily kept my interest. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

I really enjoyed the narration by Vanessa Moyen. Her performance was well paced and easy to understand, and I enjoyed the character voices. I think this is a great choice for listening.

I was provided a free review copy of this audiobook by the author via StoryOrigin; I volunteered to provide an honest review.

Oh my gosh, I love this book! What a great start to a new series. It can be tough growing up and figuring life out but when you dream of monsters and only when you draw them will they leave you alone, well, not ideal. Of course, sharing about the monsters is not on the list of how to be one of the popular girls in school. Timberlyn wants out of that school and town so she applies at schools all over the country and is always politely turned down. That is until Ravenwood Academy has accepted her enrollment, except Timberlyn doesn't remember applying. The school is near Vancouver, Canada, not far from where her grandmother lives. Timberlyn heads to Ravenwood and to her surprise and delight, makes friends. But something is not right, girls are going missing and Timberlyn tries to find the girls. Only the Wolf brothers, who seem to run the school rather than be just students, stand in her way. As she searches the forest around the school, Timberlyn comes face to face with her monsters.
This was such a good story. I enjoyed the world building and the characters were interesting and you wanted to know more about them and what is going on at Ravenwood. And the cliffhanger had me gasping NO! I can't wait to find out what happens next. I highly recommend Wolf Moon!
I received an ARC for my honest opinion.

Our heroine, Timberlyn is a social outcast at high school. She has no friends and is picked on constantly. She wears black to hide herself away but she still gets taunted.

She has weird dreams of monsters, and she draws these monsters when she's awake. Never fully understanding why she dreams of them so often.

She applies to loads of private schools on a scholarship but is rejected from every single one of them until one day she receives a Congratulations, You've Been Accepted letter from the Ravenwood Academy. But the thing is, she never applied to go there.......

The school is close to her grandmothers house in Canada so off she goes, She's warned away at the gates before she's even stepped into the school and her room mate is less than friendly.

However, she quickly makes friends and finds out what she's been missing out on over the years.

The Wolf brothers are to be avoided at all costs, but why? They stalk the hallways as if they are leaders of the pack, well their dad does own the school and most of the town....

Then a student goes missing......... and another...... Who is responsible and why is little being done to find them?

The story builds slowly as we get to know the characters and how the school works. But the finale is fast paced and exciting. Unfortunately it finishes on a cliffhanger....

YA paranormal boarding academy series heavy on high school drama and intrigue, light on paranormal and common sense. This is a solid, if formulaic addition to a popular sub-genre. I think it is a good fit for the target audience, but older readers might find it predictable. Just what the paranormal element is and how far it extends is the mystery that Timberlyn slowly unravels though the course of the book. While Timberlyn managed to get herself into quite a bit of trouble, it felt like the real action didn't start until right at the end - when the book abruptly ended mid-scene. The characters in this book are supposed to be on the younger end of highschool but engage in activities that seem more appropriate for college age or older eg alcohol, sex, and the club scene.

This is the first book in a series and ends in quite the cliffhanger. You'll want to have book 2 ready when you finish this one. The purpose of this book is to set the stage, and that is accomplished by the end. The pivotal scene where the book abruptly ends is a teaser for what happens after the mystery is revealed. A door was opened and there is no going back.

The narration was well done and suited the story well. Vanessa Moyen reads a bit quicker than the average narrator and the end of her words tend to be a touch clipped but is still easy to understand and has good emotion and inflection.

This is an entertaining paranormal YA academy audiobook with some minor hints of a possible reverse harem. Timberlyn has never fit in at her Arkansas high school and has always felt out of step with life in her home town. Dreams that seem real, goth attire, a snarky humour and drawings of monsters set her apart. When out of the blue she gets accepted to a Canadian boarding school for the gifted she jumps at the chance, especially as it is in the same town her grandmother lives in. School life at Ravenwood is not what Timberlyn expected and when girls start disappearing, she can not help but try to find out why. Told from a teenager’s point of view, this story has drama, intrigue, action, and highlights all the insecurities, angst and lack of insight that teens seen to feel. There are hints of romance, hot moody guys, secrets and a tense, somewhat creepy cliffhanger at the end. The narrator of the audiobook brings out the characters personalities well, shows good emotion and the voices she uses fits the age group perfectly. I enjoyed the spunky, “in with both feet” attitude of Timberland, the grumpy, brooding demeaner of Alarick Wolf and the slow unraveling of the plot that leads to the suspenseful ending. Overall, this is an entertaining story that is a good fit for the target audience.

I enjoyed this academy book and will be reading the next in the series. It is your typical academy story lie (with more): new girl, new academy, bullying, angst, and great characters. There is steamy in this story, bullying, but also mystery and angst. I think it was a nice read and well thought out.

The added paranormal aspect was welcome and added a great deal to my enjoyment of this story
I liked the way the author wrote the story as I liked to be a part of my reads and experience things right along with the characters. I felt a part of this story and was asking questions right along with everyone else. There were times when the main character annoyed me with her meekness/naivety, but I overlooked that as I think in book two she will grow more.

The Wolf boys stole the story for me, they were interesting and mysterious. I loved their personalities, even if they were mean at times. I think I finished this story for them and want to read the next because of them as well. I am a sucker for a great group of alpha boys. I received an ARC and am leaving an honest review. Oh and that cover if fabulous!

This is not a feel-good happy cheerful story, it is full of teen angst, suspense, and tension. The potential romance is forbidden and dangerous, and seems to be one-way, if it is a romance at all. There is definitely a strong attraction but it does not seem to be reciprocated. Loner and misfit Timberlyne does not fit in to her high school. To escape being the "monster" goth, she transfers to Ravenwood Academy, hoping to get a fresh start as a normal teenager. But Ravenwood has cliques and exclusive groups, plus some uber-bullies. It's a good thing she's gotten used to standing up to bullies and teasing because her first day did NOT go well. Events take a turn for weird and ominous as girls disappear. Timberlyne suspects the Wolf brothers, despite them warning her to be careful and mind her own business. The mystery deepens as one of the girls comes back, changed and traumatized and hanging with the Wolfs rather than her friends. Timberlyne finally makes real friends to watch her back. Then things get really crazy in the last few chapters, ending in a cliffhanger. Have Book 2 ready!

Maybe 2.5 stars. The entire time I was reading the series I felt like it was a knockoff of the Twilight series with the werewolf and vampires taking opposite roles. In this case the 5 werewolves were the mysterious, brooding, seemingly dangerous group while the vampires were all about having fun. And of course, the girl who didn’t fit in anywhere else somehow ends up torn between the two worlds.
I got this first book for free and picked it because I can enjoy YA fiction and needed something easy to read while my husband was having surgery. No way would I want my young teenager reading this though. Hormones are already raging and this had too much in the way of sexual references for my liking for young teenagers. I also did not appreciate the language used, particularly at the beginning of the book. Honestly, the only reason I kept reading was because I wanted to see if my suspicions from the first chapter would prove right, and because it was such a quick read. The ending of this first book was a bit of a cliffhanger, enough that I did end up getting the next book.

This book has a slow build-up to one heck of a cliff-hanger ending. There was a lot of time spent building their world and laying the foundations of the mysteries to track down. There wasn’t a lot of real action until very near the end of the book. I love that our heroine is a strong, independent female, but I don’t like that she’s so antagonistic. I’m reserving judgement on the insta-love aspect of the story. I remember being fifteen, and falling madly in love at the first sight of a boy doesn’t seem completely far-fetched for that hormone-driven time of life. I’m also more forgiving of the whole “fated mates” thing in any paranormal book. However, as a Canadian, I’m a little miffed at the stereotypes and inaccuracies this story perpetuates. In any case, that ending guarantees I need to read the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

Loving this new series!

I am a fan of Academy books. This new series does not disappoint! It has everything which makes an Academy series worth reading. The main character Timberlyn, is a strong female student who doesn't care what others think of her. Having grown up being bullied most of her life. She's learned to stand up for herself. Even after transferring into a new school, she's stronger then ever. This Academy doesn't seem to be what it appears after all. Her dreams are more real then she knows. And monsters really do exist. As well as does werewolves and witches and vampires. There's hot smexy guys, the Wolf brothers especially Alarick. Lots of secrets and surprises. Twists and turns. It's so good!!! I highly recommend this new series! Looking forward to reading more, can't wait until the next book is out! Definitely a cliff hanger!!! Which will leave you wanting more and more!

I received an arc of this book from the author for a honest review. This book was more than I expected.
Timberlyn was always different. She dreamed about monsters and drew them all her life. Kids at school picked on her and she developed a new strong attitude but secretly wanted to find a place to belong.
One day she receives a letter from Ravenwood Academy and she believes her prayers are answered and go away to school and start over.
Timberlyn’s gramma lives near the school and can’t wait to go.
When she arrives at the school a guy walks up to her and tells her to leave and not come back. Timberlyn doesn’t take orders well and doesn’t heed the warnings.
Chemistry between the two is explosive and the wonderful action begins. I f you are a fan of the Supernatural you will want to read this book.

I was feeling as if I were back in high school again as I read this. Of course it’s about high schoolers so why not? Me....? I’ve been trying to forget about my high school years. This book was a constant reminder. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy reading it. Ms Lena Mae Hill does a fantastic job of making it all believable. I could relate with Timberlyn to some extent. I wasn’t one of the popular ones either. But this isn’t your ordinary high school. All Timberlyn knows is something isn’t quite right at this school and she is very determined to find out what it is. She only gets part of the answer by the end of the story, though, as we have a little thing known as a cliffhanger in the end. I received an advance review copy of this book so I hope this means that I will be receiving the next book real soon ‘cause I don’t wanna wait too long to find out what happened.
