I'm usually in cahoots with the heroine of the story, as in 'You gettem girl! Tell him off and don't let him dictate your life!' But not this time. The hero, Lucas, was my favorite. He started off great and he had me rolling! He's upbeat and hilarious at opportune times, but straight forward and serious, letting his voice shine when it all boils down to his compassion for life. We never really see too much of the male prospective when it comes to decision making and life choices, but Lucas was s ...more

Hidden Under Her Heart is a story by Rachelle Ayala that takes the reader up and down the emotional scales in the lives of Maryanne and Lucas. From their first meeting, the ride begins when Lucas plays a ridiculously immature prank on Maryanne who's on duty in her job as a nurse. Maryanne is equally immature in her vow to remain celibate until she finds the right man, but then when she and Lucas go on their first date, she teases, flirts, and makes it seem as if she'd like more. As the story mov ...more

Upon reading some reviews, I can see that this is a book that will likely cause strong reactions, one way or the other. I loved this book! I have been following Rachelle Ayala and reading everything she writes and in my opinion this is her best work yet.

First off, I really like Lucas. He has his flaws and is perhaps a bit extreme in some of his views, but deep down he is a loving, caring man who was someone I could really relate to and admire. He stands by his convictions and tries to do the rig

This is the third book I have reviewed by this author, and each one is unique in its own way. But I am going to be honest. Until the last 50 or so pages, I was pretty certain I didn't like this book all that well. There were many things that initially turned me off. One of the main problems for me concerned the main characters. I found that Maryanne and Lucas were just too annoying and stuck on themselves. I had no issue with the abortion element of the story. Indeed the author covered a highly ...more

A Woman’s Right to Choose

Abortion has generated vehement political debate and controversy for years. I recently heard a statistic that one out of five women has faced (or will face) this choice during her lifetime—perhaps more than once. It’s a heart-wrenching decision for any woman to face.

Maryanne, the heroine of this novel already endured one abortion (after intense pressure by a sleazy ex-boyfriend) and it left a wound in her soul. She hardly noticed the wound until she faced the decision t

This story really made me upset that someone could get raped, and then have to deal with that man's child growing inside her. the fact that people suggested abortion made me even sadder. I am against abortion, except for this 1 circumstance. The author did a great job in making me feel for the characters and I had to see Maryanne through her pregnancy. There are so many different options instead of abortion nowadays. I wish that the author talked more about those options. However by the end of t ...more

My Review: This is very timely book about a controversial subject, abortion. Not just abortion but aborting a pregnancy due to rape. Maryanne, a nurse, is given a date rape drug while at a party of the pastors son. Not knowing what happened she woke up the next morning sick and in someone else clothes dumped in the parking lot. Trying to put the incident out of her mind becomes impossible after a tape is released to you tube showing her in a drunken state and then apparently getting raped in a d ...more

I haven't read a book in a long time that has both touched my heart and also made me think at the same time. The story of Maryann Torres and Lucas Knight is a story of young love but also of trust. The two main characters have a lot of internal issues to work through all through the story. In my opinion, Lucas was a true hero in every sense of the word. He was a good man that even dealt with somethings that he shouldn't have had too. He stood by Maryann no matter what the situation and also lear ...more

Rachelle pens "Hidden Under Her Heart", a beautifully written tale dealing with the consequences of rape and abortion. She handles the pro-choice subject honestly and nicely, and one that I don't think anyone would have a problem with. This book actually touched my heart, which was something that was unexpected. Filled with emotion, I would recommend this book to everyone.

While Hidden Under Her Heart has a foundation built on controversial topics there is so much more to the storyline that needs to be considered at as well. As I read, I often found it difficult to come to terms with what I felt was the “most important” topic of focus. Author Rachelle Ayala tells a tale of love, loss, healing, family, personal growth, and what I found most compelling…. choice.

Real people real problems

This story deals with some heavy subjects and the real feelings felt from these subjects. The woman in this story has an abortion at a young age and years later is raped and pregnant and ready to do the same thing. But many things happen and she chooses to have the baby and possibly give the baby up for adoption. But God has other plans and as she faces trial after trial she realizes she needs God's forgiveness before she can forgive herself. The only thing I had a sligh

Maryanne Torres is a nurse with a heart of steel. She's doing well with her 'no sex' bet with her friend, Vera, until Lucas Knight becomes one of her patients. He's handsome and annoying and won't take no for an answer. But, will a sinful and rugged past keep Maryanne from allowing herself happiness?

Lucas is a triathlete who trains special needs children for the Olympics. He's tired of women using him for his body and wants something a little deeper. He's taken with Maryanne from the moment he

I don't know if this book really deserves a 3; I almost want to give it a 2. If I try to be objective, then it gets the 3. Here's why. This books deals with the very controversial and difficult subjects of rape and abortion. The author did a good job (quite commendable, really) of showing both sides of the abortion argument in ways that were honest, realistic, and non-condemning. She also did not hide the fact that women who experience abortions often suffer emotionally afterwards. I also really ...more

Hidden Under Her Heart follows two main characters, Lucas and Maryanne, and their life in California. Maryanne is an allergy nurse, and Lucas is an athlete, training for triathlons and the Olympics.
They meet one day when Maryanne has to give Lucas shots for his various allergies, and after a silly, kind of juvenile prank, they start seeing one another.

Despite Maryanne’s many failed relationships, she tries to be a good person for Lucas. Not too clingy or needy, but that really doesn’t happen f
While I really love Rachelle Ayala's book, this was not one of my favorites. Don't get me wrong, the writing is a good as ever, the characters are very complex and realistic, and the story line is great. The reason it isn't my favorite is that it made me so emotional! I found myself so irritated at the main characters that I would have thrown the book across the room several times if I hadn't been reading it on my iPhone! Maryanne is so absolutely frustrating at times. She is determined to ruin ...more

I have been reading a lot of light hearted books lately. When I picked this one up and read it I was shocked with how much emotion was running through me. There are lots of women out there that have gone through the same experience as Maryanne. Sometimes people judge. That is just wrong. More people need to read a book like this in order to get the real insight into these touchy subjects of rape and abortion.

Wow Rachelle Ayala came through in her novel "Hidden Under Her Heart." Two young adults both with their on issues and upbringings come together it's either going to be fireworks or a dull sizzle. Hidden Under Her Heart delivers fourth of July fireworks. Maryanne Torres thinks she knows what she wants and needs to attract a good man; one that will not use her. She makes a decision to abstain from sex until the right man comes along and places a ring on the "correct" finger. Lucas Knight, triathle ...more

I loved Hidden Under Her Heart! I loved Lucas and Maryanne but they both annoyed me in some parts of the story. I didn't like the way Maryanne kept trying to push Lucas away when he just wanted to be there for her during her pregnancy even though it was not his baby. Of course I haven't been through what she has so I don't know how I would feel if I was in her situation. I also don't believe in abortion just like Lucas but at the same time I don't think bad of anyone that has had an abortion bec ...more

As a couple, Lucas and Maryanne, have to debate over an abortion issue. She became pregnant by going to a party and was slipped a date rape drug. Maryanne didn't remember any of the things that had happened. She didn't even know she was pregnant until later on.

I received the chance to review Hidden Under Her Heart by Rachael Ayala. This book contains a story about a women, a man, and a abortion. I love the way Rachael writes her books. She has such a passion throughout the entire book that makes it a page turner. There are a few judgey parts throughout the book but I can overlook. I certainly would have picked up the book at a bookstore, and definitely bought it. When Maryanne meets Lucas, who possibly could be the man she has been searching for, but ...more

This book constantly had me on the edge of my seat as Maryanne and Lucas tried to figure out their relationship, Maryanne tried to decide what to do with the baby and as Barry kept harassing her! It's definitely one of those books that makes you stop and think about what you would do if you were in the situation.

At times, it was very frustrating dealing with Maryanne and Lucas' wishy washy decisions. I wanted to scream at them that they both loved each other so stop fighting it! But that's a si

If i'm totally honest, when I downloaded this I thought that it was a real life story and that's why i wanted to read it.
However, I really enjoyed reading it, though the ups and downs of Maryann and Lucas wore me down and I found myself wishing they would just make their minds up.

Whilst I liked Lucas and the relationship they had, I was annoyed that he kept pushing Maryann not have an abortion - as a woman if I had been raped the first thing i would be doing, is booking myself in for an abortion

"Hidden Under Her Heart" is well written. The emotion and love between Maryanne and Lucas through the whole ordeal is amazing. I could feel everything as if I was there with Maryanne and Lucas making the decisions and going through everything with them. This book was worth reading and was so hard to put down. Maryanne is a nurse, and she gets a prank pulled on her by Lucas. (He acts quite immature in the beginning of the book.) Lucas finds himself fascinated with Maryanne and pursues her. This story was heartrending, though it admittedly caused me to ask some questions that I have been informed are abnormal. I wonder what it was that occurred to cause Barry's character to behave the way he did in the story (to the outsider it would appear that he had gotten everything he had wanted yet he was resentful toward Maryanne). It also shook my absolute stance on rape, though not intentionally and affirmed my feelings on abortion (not that I'm judgemental, I believe everyone has their ow ...more
