In Jack Stark’s Seen and Unseen we follow the patient. The story picks up directly after the patient has been taken to a secure unit having been prevented from taking his own life. Here we are introduced to the glaring confusion of admittance to a unit under these circumstances.

The account is told over long short story/novelette length and is very effective at portraying a snapshot of a particular point of time and mindset. The daily life of a secure unit, with its routines and sometimes straine
