"Trailers filled with secrets, imbued with carnivalesque mythology---the mystery of it all."

Dark Carnival has a lot of interesting storylines to offer - there's a cult, a carnival, small-town partying, mysteries, and more. Although it had a lot of elements I was intrigued by, unfortunately, I had a tough time connecting to this story.

Joanna Parypinski’s new novel Dark Carnival follows Dax Howard. Dax is a college student studying astrophysics who returns to his hometown of Conjunction, Nebraska due to the sudden death of his father. Soft 3/5 I was surprised by this book. I don’t usually read too much about a book and instead just dive in blind. I read this based on a recommendation I received. Based just on the title I was expecting something totally different than what I got. I don’t know if that tempered my reaction to it. That being said there was a lot to like about this book. Lots of creepy atmospheric stuff and a little bit of conspiracy to go along with it.
