The Beckoning of Beguiling Things

Rate this book
The Numina, the esteemed guardians of the Earth, are alive and well. Their leader, the Keeper of Time and Records, version 5.1.1, knows all the secrets and mysteries, save one—what will happen to the world if the light bearers don’t come into their own? And one potential light bearer holds the key—Marissa Engles. Hold up. Stop. That's utter nonsense. That's what they'd have me believe. But I have different plans. My sisters told me to stop being so serious while in Las Vegas. I figure I'm going to take them up on the suggestion, especially when an extremely hot male dancer catches my eye. Tonight, if I'm lucky, I've got a date with destiny--he stands about six-foot-three and he looks like he power-lifts ponies in his spare time. All this talk about magic and power will have to wait. The only destiny I'm interested in is waiting for me backstage. There's no way I'm going to say no to what awaits me, understood? Good. I'm glad we're in agreement--because courting destiny can be a bitch, especially when it takes a sharp left turn. The Beckoning of Beguiling Things is the start of a one woman and too many delicious men to choose from kind of romantic adventure. The Beckoning Series , so

Magic in Vegas

After the death of her parents, life has been quiet - 'pastel' - for our heroine; letting go in Vegas seems a good idea. What she doesn't know is that she is a pawn in a magical game of push and pull.
This is an odd story, the romance and conspiracy parts being stronger than the ethereal, magical beings meetings. Still, I enjoyed it.

The Beckoning Series by author Calinda B. begins with The Beckoning of Beguiling Things. Though I have never read any of her work before, I truly did not expect to be enamored by her writing so quickly. I mean, page two and there she is describing Las Vegas heat as "Satan's ball sack." I'm a fan, okay? Then, I realize that Marissa's pregnant sister is responsible for dragging her to Sin City, which already makes zero sense already based on my personal experiences and impressions these characters made on me so early in the book - #1 Pregnant women probably won't find much that is healthy for them on the Strip so why in the name of all that is holy would she choose there? and #2 Marissa strikes me as pretty much the opposite of a Vegas-weekend-trip-to-cut-loose kind of girl and shouldn't her sister be aware of that? Tidbits of reality such as those poking their uptight noses into my fiction aside, Beguiling Things runs the gambit in terms of adjectives to accurately describe the plot, but I'm going to list the ones bouncing around in my head anyway; modern, magic, funny, tragic, exciting and a healthy dose of fantasy. I'm looking forward to the follow-up.

Marissa Engles only wants to have a good time in Vegas. She deserves it after all the stress from the last man she was with. When an exotic dancer catches her eye and things are starting to look up in regard to the evening’s plans, Marissa is less interested in fateful mutterings about her destiny, than she is in what that dancer can do for her. The problem with ignoring destiny, is that destiny rarely ignores you. Unbeknownst to her, she is chosen to be a bearer of light and the males she is attracted to will have a huge involvement to that end. The good vs evil doctrine is strong in this book, but Marissa is strong, sassy, emotionally stable and doesn’t take things lying down. Easy to read and the first in a new series, what is not to love? I’ll certainly be picking up the next book today.

There are a lot of undercurrents and secrets swirling though this book. I have no idea where they’re going to lead, but I’m very curious to find out. I really liked Marina. I was a bit disappointed in how she let her sisters and best friend dictate her adventure however, I found it easy for me to connect to her artistic, introverted soul. I know it’s a function of some of the other genres I read in and the absolute requirement I have for consent in them. I know this. I accept it. And I’m hoping that the author didn’t mean to set off trigger alarms, but there are some things in here that smack of non-con and left me feeling a little squicky. In spite of all that, I still enjoyed watching the stage be set for what’s to come. I don’t know what it is, but I’m sure it’ll be “interesting”.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.

A Las Vegas trip that has a twisted journey

This story is about Marissa and her coping with the loss of her mother and father to a plane crash. When Marissa and her sisters and friends head to Vegas for a fun filled weekend, nobody expected the turn of events that would follow this innocent trip. Her sisters want her to have a no strings weekend fling, her friends want her to loosen up and let go, and others want her to accept her role in a special group that balances good and evil. The story is well written with developed and relatable characters. I enjoyed the journey and was hooked on the first page and wanted to find out what would happen next. This is a good series and is well worth the read. Check this one out and let me know what you think.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "THE BECKONING OF BEGUILING THINGS" Melissa Engles is still dealing with the tragic plane crash that killed her parents now living with her aunt and she just had a disastrous breakup with her boyfriend.
Marissa and her sisters and friends head to Vegas for a fun filled weekend the turn of events is a wild ride for sure not what was expected.
The storyline is full of intrigue, fun, humor, hot steamy scenes, and there are plans at work and some dangerous events, twists that have you turning the pages I definitely recommend so well worth the read the characters were entertaining and pulled you right into the story I so can't wait for the next book in this delightful series.

One of the things you can always be sure of with this author is that you will get very interesting characters and plenty of twists.

The story starts out pretty simple with a girls trip to Vegas and adds some intriguing scenes that illustrate a lot more is going on that what appears to be happening. You get some information about the supernatural elements as the story develops. There are big plans in the works and some dangerous elements in play.

I love surprises and not being able to predict everything. I can honestly say at the end that I have no idea what will happen next but do know it will be quite an exciting adventure.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

Calinda B knows how to tell a fun tale that’s innovative and imaginative. That’s certainly the case with The Beckoning of Beguiling Things (The Beckoning Series, Book 1). A gals trip to Vegas that is sooo much more. Read the publisher’s blurb to get a good sense of the plot and then know you’ll be in for one wild and fun ride when reading this. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

It was a fun and interesting read. It started out with Marissa, her sisters, and best friend head to Vegas to let loose and have fun. Then the crazy starts to happen. It kept me reading to see what was going to happen next and how it would all fit together. here were good guys, bad guys, and the ones on the fence, maybe?? Cannot wait to see what happens next in this crazy world. I chose to review as I liked the story and the mystery of what is really happening on Earth and what the Numina have to do with it. A little steamy but that does not get in the way of the good story.

An intriguing new environment. Marissa, her sisters, and friend are wonderful characters. Several other characters are interesting as well. Marissa's character seems to be the type to do the opposite of what she s told to do as is common in a child-parent relationship. Mildly erotic.

I received a copy of this book as a gift. This is my honest review.

Entertaining. Haunting. Informative. Scary. Steamy. Tragic. Twisted. Wonderful characters.

I am always in the lookout for something new and different which I found with this author whom I like to read. Marissa gives us quite the tale in this with her sisters being the ringleaders in starting of the fun. This also has magic and fantasy rolled into it with modern day taste. It also has a bit of steam so it will not be dry. It will not be your norm that is for sure. This was the beginning of good things to come.

First let me state that I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.

Wow!!! What a story. I actually felt like I was right there. I laughed and I cried. Marissa is such a lost soul, so afraid of living life to the fullest. Her BFF, Marta, is so sassy. Pushing her to let go and "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas". Then there's Jason, a weird surfer dude, who's kinda strange. This story leaves you with wanting more. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up

Wow, I don’t know what to say. This book was way different and can’t wait for the next one. What is the mystery? What is the light and dark? Who really is Armando’s son? What is going to happen when Marissa gets back home from Vegas? What is going to happen? What direction will Marissa? I received a free copy for my honest review.

Ever wonder where everything started with the Beckoning Series? Or, wondered how Marissa Engles received her wondrous powers? Well, this is the novella to read to find all of that out. I've read all of the Beckoning series, so far and this little gem gave me a new perspective. I'd never really considered where Marissa got her power, but it's obvious that Calinda B has put a lot of thought into our leading lady.
What a whirl wind trip around Vegas for the lead character Marissa. The seeds planted and we meet the other characters that will be a part of her future. It's a great place to start if you haven't read the Beckoning series, you'll definitely want to continue with the series after reading this tasty little appetizer.

The story was a confusing. Maybe I was having a blonde moment, but I sometimes felt as though I was in the middle of the story. There is little explanation so there is no frame of reference for many events in the story. All in all, it was a disappointment.
