Gripping drama as Pennington's department store prepares for a glittering Christmas in 1911, but a killer stalks the women of Bath.

Christmas sees Pennington's at its most glorious, thronged with shoppers, its grand staircase and balcony adorned with holly, mistletoe, tinsel and lights. It should be the happiest time, but dramas are seething beneath the surface.

This was book 3 in the series but my first. But it was extremely easy to get into the story.

It was 1911 and Christmas time at the Pennington store. Cornelia was going through a divorce while struggling with job and children, and Stephen, who had left Scotland Yard, was the security guard at the store. Both had a past and found themselves attracted to each other. There were murders of rich women happening into which Stephen was asked to look.

Christmas at Pennington's is the third book in the Pennington's Series by Rachel Brimble. It can easily be read as a standalone, but I would recommend that you read the others first because if you read this one first you will want to read the others and there will be no surprises if you do that. I have read the previous books and loved them and I am happy to say that this one is equally as good.

Stephen Gower, a police sergeant currently suspended from Scotland Yard pending an investi

A department store in Bath brilliantly preparing for Christmas but behind the scenes there is a lot of drama. A killer stalks the streets of Bath preying on women - and women who are respectable and doing good for the community.

Cornelia desperately trying to carve a niche for herself and her two sons in a contested divorce case. Stephen head of security at Penningtons, finds himself drawn into a murder investigation which he does not want to even know about. Stepping down from Scotla

Brimming with drama, style, and secrets, CHRISTMAS AT PENNINGTON'S by Rachel Brimble is a story that comes alive in your mind as you read each page and is sure to please historical fiction fans everywhere.

It is 1911 and Pennington's department store is getting ready for Christmas with its stunning displays of elegance and sophistication. But outside these hallowed walls, a killer stalks the wealthy women of Bath and is making its pres

Christmas in 1911 is fast approaching, but a killer stalks the women of Bath.
For Cornelia Culford, in charge of jewellery, a divorce hearing looms, where she could lose custody of her two young sons to her overbearing and unfaithful husband.
For Stephen Gower, being head of security at Pennington's is the perfect refuge from a tragic past at Scotland Yard. But soon the past will call him back, as Joseph Carter and Elizabeth Pennington beg him to help solve the murder of Joseph's

Christmas at Pennington's is another wonderful addition to this early turn of the last century series. The story is based around the characters of Stephen Gower and Cornelia Culford, They become acquainted while both working at Pennington's where they become friends that help each other to solve the the mystery of who is behind the murders in Bath, and at the same time they are both also having to muddle through dealing with their own personal problems. With working so closely together their fri ...more

Christmas at Pennington’s by Rachel Brimble is the third installment in the Pennington’s series. It can be read as a standalone for those new to the series (but why not read all three books). Christmas at Pennington’s takes readers on a journey back to November 1911 in Bath, England. Pennington’s department store is beautifully decorated for Christmas and customers are busily shopping for Christmas presents. Cornelia Culford, along with her two sons, has left her abusive husband, David and moved ...more

The Pennington's series is fast becoming one of my all time favourites; it has everything and more in a story. We have strong female lead characters, troubled pasts, struggles for independence, family drama, glitz and glamour of the early 1900's, political uprising, danger, mystery and above all else romance.

Christmas at Pennington's is Book 3 in the series and although each story can be read as a standalone the characters lives do follow on in their journeys in each story and it's w

Is it to early for Christmas books? Honestly, I don't care because I will read any Holiday type of novel anytime of the year. And having read the previous books in this series, I was so excited!

Although it can be read as a standalone novel, I highly recommend you to read the first two books because some characters appear in this one despite the fact that the main character is Cornelia, and by reading the previous novels you will have a better understanding of the background of the ch

Elizabeth Pennington and her husband, Joseph Carter, have continued their remaking and revival of Pennington's department store, but their lives and the lives of their employees and friends are also continuing.

Joseph becomes even more distressed and frustrated over the never-solved murder of his first wife, Lillian, when another kind and charitable woman is killed in exactly the same circumstances--attacked while bringing food to the homeless.

This is a series I always enjoy, and look forward to reaching in my list! So, high expectations – which were fully rewarded!

This time round we focus on two of the newer members of Pennington’s staff; Cornelia, serving customers with the best jewellery and trying to rebuild a life for herself and her children while she waits for the court hearing which will decide on her divorce petition. Stephen Gower is also waiting for a decision – one which will decree if he can continue with his

At first, I thought there were so many spelling and punctuation errors that I wouldn't be able to read it. I finally realized the book was from the UK! Whew! I am a proofreader so I was starting to twitch at what I assumed were mistakes and poor proofing. After I got past the differences I began to thoroughly enjoy the story. Rachel Brimble has given her readers strong women characters that are definitely unusual for the turn of the twentieth century. Pennington's is a large department store hea ...more

Another addition to the Pennington Department series. Christmas at Pennington's by Rachel Brimble was an interesting read. What an ability Ms. Brimble has for making a setting come to life. With her detailed description, you can picture the beautifully decorated department store, ready for the Christmas season. The two main characters Stephen Gower and Cornelia Culford are employees at Pennington's. They start out as friendly co-workers but end up as so much more. I loved the slow pace and devel ...more

What a fabulous book I really enjoyed reading. This is the third book in a series, but is the first one I’ve read. It is fine to read as a stand-alone, but I have just purchased the other books in the series as I absolutely loved reading about the Pennington department store in Bath. Bath is one of my favourite places to visit and so made the book all the more enjoyable to me that I was reading about streets and places I’d actually been. This book left me wanting more so I really hope that Rache ...more

This is the third book that I've read in this series set in an English department store. Each of the books focuses on a particular couple but because there is a larger mystery that moves through all of them, it is best to read them in order.

Cornelia is a soon to be divorced woman who is working at the jewelry counter.  Stephen is a policeman on leave pending an investigation into his role in a case that went horribly wrong.  He's working security at the store.  Several people find out that he

This is the third book in the Pennington's series. I read this as a standalone novel, although I've previously enjoyed The Mistress of Pennington's, the first instalment in this series.

There she meets Stephen Gower, head of security and another new employee who is also trying to forget abo

This is my first trip to Pennington’s and what a delight it is. Set in historic Bath, this historical romantic saga, with a mystery to solve, is full of contrasts. The glamour, and tasteful glitz of the elegant department store, in contrast to darkness enveloping Bath as a murderer, add their menacing presence.

This is the third book in the Pennington’s historical saga but reads well as a standalone. However, the writing, style, the author’s attention to detail and the vividly portray

Once again we are transported to the Suffragette era and Bath, England's premiere shopping experience. This story will also take us to the back streets, dark alleys and the ugly side of the gentrified lifestyle. The characters have ethics which bring about moral dilemmas. This series is particularly about strong women. I do recommend you read each of the series stories but this book stands unquiveringly alone.

This is the third book in the Pennington series, but can easily be read as a stand alone. I read book one, but not two, and had no problem jumping into to three.

A beautiful, slow love story set in 1911 Bath, England, the author does a wonderful job of setting the scene with historical context. And experiencing our heroes find redemption and a second chance at happiness in life was lovely.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are

This was the 3rd book in a series but I had no problem understanding the characters even though I had not read the others.

I enjoyed the story and how the characters came together to solve the mystery. I also enjoyed the descriptions of the department store Christmas decorations and shoppers.

I received an ARC from netgalley for my review and rating.

This is the third book in the Pennington’s series, but it can be read as a standalone novel. The story picks up at Christmas in 1911 at the opulent department store, Pennington’s. Lavishly decked out with the finest Christmas decorations the store looks amazing, but the staff that work there are facing many trials and tribulations in their personal lives. There is also a killer stalking the streets of Bath targeting the local women, and the owners of Pennington’s ask former policeman and Head of ...more
