From high fantasy to paranormal, Aderyn's stories cover the broad spectrum of Fantasy. Inspired from childhood by the wonder and mystique of Susan Cooper's 'The Dark is Rising' and the adventures in Tolkien's 'The Hobbit', her love of the Fantasy genre has been life long. As a writer, Aderyn brings characters and places to life in stories filled with magic, mystery, and a good dollop of mayhem.
Aderyn studied Literature, History and Creative Writing at university, travelled the world, and taught English before becoming a full-time writer. She is also a part-time farmer passionate about self-sufficiency and poultry. She lives in a cosy cottage on a small farm in Victoria, Australia with partner Peter, their dog, cat, and a little duck called Snow.
Such an amazing journey that has finally come to an end but not without it's losses. She hated being the Savior and all that went with it. It seemed no matter what she did it came out wrong and someone paid the price. She didn't know nearly as much as she needed to know to do what needed to be done and she hated it. Hated all the lives lost. Hated all of the betrayals, the deceptions, not know who to trust or what to do. Brilliant. That's the only word that comes to mind. The author has so many twist and things to clean up I was worried. But. . . the way she cleans it all up and how it all falls in place is just awesome. She is left to her own vices when all of the avenues and people open to her are gone or unable to help. The Prophecy Stone, in all it's glory was an amazing feat, hers by right but as long as it was not in her possession her worst enemy. War. Death. Chaos. Balance. She has to trust in the magic, in the stone, in the Balance, even if it means loosing all of the people she loves and honors. Maybe just maybe it won't be as bad as she fears. Maybe she will find a way to the man she truly loves. Maybe just maybe it will all work out. Like I said, maybe just maybe this author is freaking brilliant, this series certainly was.
Borderlands: Return is a 5 Star YA Fantasy Novel that will appeal to both teens and adults alike, and is generally a clean read (ie. no sex) but there is some cursing. There’s a little bit of everything to please everyone: fantasy, science fiction (when Dale, the heroine, returns to Earth, renamed New Arcadia), action, adventure, a smidgen of romance, time-travel, a coming-of-age story, and magic. The world-building is amazing, especially Arcadia and New Arcadia; the storyline is exciting; the characters are interesting (Dale, Rhys, and Jaral); the plot twists are shocking and completely unexpected; and the villains are spectacularly evil (Ricardo, Natalia and Acheron). Overall, I really enjoyed the third novel in the Borderlands Series (Borderland: Return), but you need to read the first two novels (Borderland: Journey and Borderland: War, respectively) in the series to really understand the story; this book cannot be read as a stand-alone novel because the storyline is a continuous arc from one book to the other.
Dale has learned a lot, has come a long way. But she is still impetuous and likes to do things her own way. Sometimes that causes issues for everyone. But she is a First and therefore she has a responsibility to protect people and to fight to restore the balance. Ryes was sent to earth and had not been heard of for a few weeks. If course on earth, years had passed. Dale must find a way to destroy Ricardo and her uncle and restore the balance before all is lost. But what will she have to sacrifice to achieve this??
I enjoyed this series. Sometimes it seemed to go on and on, but I understood the significance of it all. You will find with Dale and cheer her on as she becomes the true savior she was always meant to be.
Final book in the trilogy and it did not disappoint. Unexpected twists and turns made this a real page-turner. Hard to say anymore without spoilers, but there is so much I want to say. This series just got better and better, and it's rare to walk away from a final book completely satisfied, but that's how I feel with this one. Epic fantasy and urban fantasy mix beautifully in this YA adventure. A touch of romance, a lot of action and adventure, magic, sorcery and mystical lands, and a heroine that is one of the most realistic I've come across in ages. I really didn't want to leave this world.
Book 3 in the series, the story follows after the second book. The story is slower than the first and second books. In this book, everything comes together and Dale intends to find a resolution. She returns to Earth where evil has sped time, and her new family are caught in the midst of the war. The writing is well suited for YA readers as well as older readers. The story follows a young character, but Dale's journey is worth the read.
I received a free copy and am leaving a review voluntarily. Thank you to Hidden Gems Books and author.
This is the last book in the series about a girl named Dale, for me the best series with a female hero. A very exciting, enjoyable and satisfying story.
Dale is very likeable, she means well but often overreacts, sometimes is really naive, which gets her into trouble. She feels attracted by two men around her age, the confusion of a young heart. Her character is thouroughly believable. As is the whole storyline. There are some interesting twists.
When time between the different worlds goes asynchron and Dale travels back to earth, we get a glimpse of a desolate future where it rains all of the time (see title picture), it's somewhere between post-apocalyptic and Star Wars.
What Aderyn Wood writes is never boring, in this book Dale's inner dialogue, her dialogue with others - sometimes via telepathy - and vivid descriptions of landscape alternate. I love the poetic descriptions of nature like this one: "Outside, the clouds had turned a darker shade of charcoal as snow continued to fall at the same steady pace, dusting everything in white." There are many characters, but because everyone has their own special way to talk they are easily distinguishable.
I think the dialogues are really good, for instance that at the fight lesson. And I can really understand Dale's feelings, everything fits. Sometimes I get a little angry at her when she lies or doesn't consult anybody or when she wants her mother to trust her though she doesn't follow the rules.
This is what makes a good book, I can feel for the protagonist, am happy with them, suffer, am afraid for them or angry with them. Aderyn Wood certainly fulfills my needs here.
