This was a very quick read but was very good and full of people pulling together to make something happen. Cher is the landlady of the duck and puddle pub in the lovely village lives in tindledale and she's due to get married to Clive but when disaster strikes and could effect their big sale will the village pull together and being able to save the day by sewing like busy bees or will it be to late for that. A great short read.
A lovely short story focussing on Cher and Sonny from Tindledale, and the first few chapters from the author’s next book (which is out next month).
It was so lovely to return to Tindledale, and to see two people get their happy ending in spite of difficulties. I can’t really say much more without giving away the plot!
The story was your average country village, country folk, rallying together to pull a wedding off. It was exactly what I expected and enjoy, but the dialogue, and how 'nice' everyone was felt a little unbelievable.
And short story? 37% of the book and it was over. The rest was opening chapters from another book. Call it what it is... an excerpt.
Having been suitably enticed by the title and Summertime cover, it was disappointing to only be 7 Chapters long ..
The overall idea for the story-line was great, but it didn't translate well into such a short novella format .. the Author knew where to start and the finish was obvious, however, if this had been a proper length novel, we would have had time to get to know the characters and everyone's part in this two week lead up to getting a wedding together could have been explored in greater depth .. felt the more interesting parts of the story were glossed over, or ignored, but could have filled a couple of chapter each .. not enough Sewing Bee antics either ..
Short story followed by excerpt from another book by same author
The first part of this free book is described as an uplifting short story. It was ok,like the kind of short you'd read in a magazine. I was surprised at how short it was as I was less than half way through according to the counter in my kindle. The rest of this freebie was the opening of another book by the same author and I didn't realise that until I'd finished reading and was just getting into the story! But cheeky Amazon, leading me on like that. I'm NOT buying it!
The Great Summer Sewing Bee is by a new-to-me author Alex Brown. I started this in April 2024 but unfortunately I struggled to get into this story; it just did not pull me in. I left it for a while and came back to it thinking I hadn't been in the mood for that kind of story when I originally started it, but very quickly decided it just wasn't for me.
I did manage to finish the story but did not bother with the extract from A Postcard from Italy
Short story was a bit of an understatement. It took up 37% of the book as the rest was a preview of another.
However it was a lovely story following friendship and the community of Tindledale coming together to help Cher and Sonny get married after a disaster threatens it.
First time reading this author and would consider reading a full length book by her.
Another great Novella from Alex brown! Perfect reading if you dont have much time as this is a 20min read!! This novella set in idyllic fictional village Tindledale is focused on Cher and Sonnie the owners of the pub and their wedding day!! As usual its full of warmth, love and community spirit the kind you can only get in a close knit village!
It was too short. And a lot shorter than expected too. Like, at 41% it was already finished, and the other book started. I somehow thought it would last for at least another 20%. So it ended quite sudden. I don't know. I think I had higher expectations. It was nice to read about all my favourite characters again. But I never really got into the story before it was over. Just 3 stars for now.
A great short story featuring the wedding of Cher & Sonny, owners of the village pub. The whole of Tindledale comes together to rescue a wedding from the clutches of disaster.
I will give it a 4/5 stars because even though it was not that good as a read but still it was a wonderful summer read that I can ever go for in one sitting which is how I read this book in one sitting.
