Alan Sillitoe, author of Saturday Night, Sunday Morning and other iconic novels takes time out of his busy novel writing schedule to walk the Saxon Shore Way round the coast of Kent. He did the walk in the early Eighties in ten days. What is fascinating is noting how much has changed but also how much has stayed the same. I was particularly charmed by the number of second hand book shops he manages to find his way into en route. I was also amused by how many pubs he visits to slake his thirst along the way.
