Perhaps you’re already familiar with The Tooth Fairy vs. Santa (published last October)? Well, this is a continuation of the turf war between The Tooth Fairy and another magical being who serves children, each year. Young Veda loses her tooth the night before Easter and she writes a letter with a special request that will require the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny working together. But are they even capable of such a thing? The cute ending leaves the reader feeling there will be a sequel with yet another magical character. This book does not share how the artwork was created, but it appears to be digitally rendered.

I received this book as an ARC from Penguin Workshop in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I was so fascinated by the tooth fairy vs. santa that when I found out there was another book but this time the tooth fairy has to take on the Easter Bunny taking care of the same child, the battle is definitely one for the books. This book is even more creative and colorful than ever and I know a lot of our young children will go crazy for this book because it intertwines two legends that are well known during the holiday season. Even though the book projects conflict, the children will grow fond of this boom because of the excellent coloring and creative drawings of the characters.

We will consider adding this book to our JHoliday collection at the library. That is why we give this book a well deserved 5 stars.

The Tooth Fairy Vs. The Easter Bunny by Jamie L.B. Deenihan, illustrated by Erin Hunting. PICTURE BOOK. Penguin Workshop (Penguin Random House), 2020. $13. 9780593094051

BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH

A young girl, Veda, strategically loses her tooth the night before Easter and leaves a note explaining that she wants the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny to work together to hide eggs. Blue, the representative for the tooth fairy, and the Easter Bunny don’t get along at first but in the course of a needed rescue they become buddies.

My son picked this up immediately after the first reading and read it two more times in a row. This book is a very playful experience and taps into the young reader’s imagination. I think the line between believing in these characters and doubting, adds to the literary experience. It also means that there might be awkward conversations between classmates if some readers are beyond believing.

As an adult, I’m finding myself very interested in these Tooth Fairy vs. books! I read Tooth Fairy vs. Santa Claus not too long ago and absolutely loved it.

Now we have Tooth Fairy vs. the Easter Bunny and I’m drawn right back into the adorable-ness. The illustrations are perfectly done and really draw you into the story. The plot is simple and not overly complicated for a young reader to get into.

I will continue reading all of these books in this “series,” if there are more, and wishing that things like this existed when I was growing up.

I think my 9-yo would probably love a book like this around Easter time, but it feels more Tooth Fairy related . . . so it seems more appropriate for when a child has a loose tooth. Then it becomes when does one read the book?

If you have children, or work with children — check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.

The Tooth Fairy vs. the Easter Bunny follows on from The Tooth Fairy vs. Santa, in which trainee tooth fairy, Blue, met his match when he was assigned his first tooth fairy mission on Christmas Eve and came face to face with Santa. The ending of that entertaining, festive picture book cleverly hinted at an Easter-themed sequel… And here it is!

Now Blue has been called back to the house of the same little girl, Veda, when she loses her second tooth the night before Easter. The Easter Bunny, however, makes it very clear that he works alone and has no interest in teaming up with Blue to make Veda’s Easter morning extra special. But when he gets caught in a trap, will he finally accept help from Blue and the Tooth Fairy Command Center?

With so many Easter books on the market, it’s important that new ones stand out, and this one certainly does. It’s fun, action-packed and has an exciting superhero feel to it that kids will love.

The bold, vibrant illustrations really pop off the page and appear almost three-dimensional. I especially love the changing expressions of the tough, life-hardened Easter Bunny when he’s caught in a net and his eyes slowly fill with tears.

Although this is the second book starring Blue, it’s absolutely not essential to have read the first in order to enjoy it, so there’s nothing to stop you from ordering this book for Easter and the previous one later in the year in time for Christmas. The ending of The Tooth Fairy vs. the Easter Bunny also hints at a further sequel involving a certain mischievous St. Patrick’s day figure, so I’m guessing this won’t be the last we see of Blue!

This is a cute sequel to the first book. Blue is now officially a tooth fairy and on his next mission, he runs in to the Easter Bunny who does NOT like working with anyone else. There was a very anti-climatic and fast "challenge" between the two, which I wasn't fond of. I feel like the author threw that in to mirror the first book, but ultimately the story had nothing to do with the challenge. It just kind of threw a wrench in the whole story. But in the end, my kids really liked how it wrapped up...and of course the hint at yet another story!

And can I just say that this girl loses teeth with impeccable timing?!

It's a fun story to add to your Easter collection. But I will say that we enjoyed the "vs. Santa" edition more than this one.

Part of a series about Blue the Tooth Fairy challenging various holiday figures, this Easter Bunny volume would work best for the elementary crowd due to its length. Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny books are relatively rare, so this may be a welcome addition to some collections. The digital cartoon illustrations are large, colorful, and full of action, which will certainly draw readers in. Fans of fantasy will enjoy the quirky premise, and the writing clearly relays the story in this optional purchase.

Recommended for older kids. Super wordy and a complex story.

A male tooth fairy named Blue goes to retrieve a tooth on Easter and runs into the Easter Bunny, who's there to hide eggs. The girl who lost a tooth leaves a note and asks the two of them to work together, but the Easter Bunny isn't interested.

What could be more fun than the tooth fairy duking it out with the Easter bunny? This book is filled with action, humor and just the right amount of heart and teamwork. This is the perfect addition to an Easter basket and the kind of story you'll want to read and re-read.

Blue, the newest member of the Tooth Fairy Team, is on his first assignment and meets the Easter Bunny at the same location, hiding eggs. A friendly competition almost leads to disaster, but a little help from Luna and the Rescue Squad averts the mayhem.
