(Caution: Spoilers below if you have not read Volumes 1-3. The first three volumes of The Days of Ash and Fury are available in the omnibus Ash: The Days of Ash and Fury, Act One.)

Through the Gift of Lady Lor, the champions of Tahr have begun to comprehend the depth and breadth of magic they possess, but even their combined and near-boundless power of sorcery has proven inadequate against the might of Kalashagon. Shlya’s quick thinking delivered them from the jaws of the dragon, but alas, their escape came too late for Captain Mikallis Elmshadow and Vicaris Trellia Evanti.

The four – and Wolf – now find themselves in the protective company of Cindra Sandshingle… but the former Elder of G’naath is not quite what she once was. Imprisoned and beset on all sides by the darkest of foes, together they must learn to control their newfound magic to survive the grave perils they now face.

On the surface of Tahr, chaos is at hand. The deaths of King Halsen and the Master of Kehrlia have created a power vacuum in Mor – one the dark Daughters of Kal intend to fill. In the frozen Maw, the false dwarven king Dohr Silverstone has committed an atrocity against the elven people, and First Ranger Nishali Windwillow will have her revenge. And Vincent Thomison, the one man who might unite the kingdoms against the rising evil of Fury and bring an end to the division and poverty that has come to plague Greater Tahr, lies again near death, burned beyond recognition in dragonfire.

For even the thinnest ray of hope to pierce the pall that has blanketed the world, dark truths about Tahr’s past must be confronted, and our champions must escape from their iron prison…

… but there is no door.

Kingdoms at war! Darkness has descended over Tahr and it’s every elf, gnome, dwarf and human for themselves. Heroes rise and fall. Enemies become allies to fight a greater evil. Fury has become a real place to escape. Sean Hinn has created a masterful Armageddon scenario that has us on the edge of our seats as we grieve the losses of those we’ve loved and champion some we use to call enemy. Everything about this series is brilliant. Hinn has woven worlds and ideas together brilliantly through characters whom we have grown to love and are learning to love. What sets him apart from writers like Jordan and even Tolkien, is the pace of his stories. It has been over a year and I’m still reading the first book in The Wheel of Time series. With The Days of Ash and Fury series, you can’t put the books down until you’ve finished. I highly recommend this series to fantasy readers. You won’t regret a page of it.

Sean Hinn is well on his way to becoming A Name in the epic fantasy author world. We quickly get a look at where all the main characters are from the conclusion of book 3. This is a darker thrill ride then the previous books but we can only hope it is as they say darkest before the dawn. Even though I have issue with a couple plots within the book I found the book very enjoyable. The pace is excellent and none of the characters are forgotten for long as Sean weaves many viewpoints into a masterpiece tapestry. The characters continue to draw you in and some of the twists and turns make you wonder just who is left as the good guys. I do hope in book 5 we get a better look into Lucan as we still don't get much of a look into his heart of hearts and mind of minds but otherwise everyone continues to develop and the desperation builds. I can't wait to read what happens next

Evil b good n all good b vile!

I hate books that do this. No a vampire is not nor ever shall be good. They were an ancient mythos about rapists. Less you think rapists are the good guys? Sick as it is some glorify serial killers n yes rapists. Sick psychos n I do not refer to those behind bars.

Then give me a break. Gnomes smack about dwarves with ease? Yeah right. Elves slaughter dwarves because of one dwarf ... Yeah right. But of course they will not kill the gnomes. It musta been only the leaders! But dwarves b evil! Humans b vile! Yeppers, only the devil worshipping gnomes n course tree huggers b the only good races here.I
This ruined the series. Period.

Good story

Not 5 stars because I spent half of the book familiarizing myself with the characters. Three years and hundreds of books in between makes for some confusion. The only character whose story I remembered from start to finish was Shyla. This is very dark as the author tells us. I feel like I'm reading now just to see who lives or dies to the end. I don't think there was a single storyline that had any happy chapter, no romance, no hope. Yikes. Lighten up just a little. Gbash

Gah! The wait for book 5 begins..

One of the things I love most about this series is that something is always happening. I've found so often with books that frequently skip between points of view that I sometimes end up rushing to get back to the action. Not so with this series. One ends and the next picks right back up into the action. I love it!

Also, Barris still lives. Thank Lor.

I thought this volume was a step backwards. I had more trouble picking up where the story left off in #3. This book reminded me of Empire Strikes Back with its boring intrigues. Since most people liked that, i will probably be in the minority. Also, i am tired of characters "dying" and coming back. We have comic books for that trope.

I really enjoyed this book, it was interesting to see the different directions it is taking. Although we did not see as much of Shyla and Wolf, she seems to be doing as well as can be expected given where she is most of the book. I hate to do spoilers and I know everyone can read a synopsis of the book before they start, I just wanted to give you and idea about what I liked.

And the story continues.

Sean Hinn presented a much better read (better edited and proofread) in this fourth installment than in the three previous. I enjoyed the prose, the character growth, the twists and turns and the deepening mysteries surrounding Ya Di!

I am truly looking forward to book 5!

Darker but good!

This had me on the edge of my seat and many characters that I fell in love with have died... why Sean... why?
However my favourite 4 are still alive and fighting, if in a very dark place.
Bring on book 5 and 6 so this mess can be sorted out and light wins out.

Getting better

As the books to on, the writing and story get notably better. Enjoyed this book more than 2 and 3.

Didn't seem to go anywhere. Built up multiple character arch but didn't finish any of them.
