No caregiver should ever have to go it alone...pretty much sums up the most powerful emotional punch in Pat Simmons’s LEAN ON ME. There is also a wonderful growing romance that starts out on a very, VERY bad foot as well as a message to lean on one’s faith, as well as those around us. Being a caregiver under any circumstance is beyond difficult and on the surface, this book does address the toll it takes on everyone involved.

As a person who has been the sole caregiver for more than one family

Being a caregiver for someone with dementia or Alzheimer's is not an easy task. I watched my mother care for my father and I know it took a lot of out her. But much like Tabitha, Kym, and Rachel, they all cared for the person with dementia and wanted to do what they could to make that person's life the best it could be under the circumstances.

This story has so many facets that it appeals to many on so many levels. There is caring for someone that is ill, finding love, rediscovering faith, some

"Who takes care of you, Miss Knicely while you're trying to be strong for your aunt? Who has your back?"

What a great question and one that we often overlook. In society we tend to focus on the lives of the ill and elderly and not on their caregivers. Lean on Me, through a work of fiction, gave great insight into the stress and toll it takes on those that care for their loved ones. Through the three sisters we are able to see the lengths and sacrifices that each make to care for their beloved

Lean on Me covers a timely topic of adults as caregivers for family members who have illnesses that mean they are unable to care for themselves. Pat Simmons weaves a tale of a believer who automatically assumes when an elderly woman comes to him, unassisted, on several occasions, that she is being abused in some fashion. His actions, though, are a little tough and Tabitha feels the brunt of it. Tabitha and her sisters are managing to care for their aunt through three different residence rather ...more

Initially i was drawn to this book due to the story being based around a caregiver to her aunt who had Alzheimer's. I usually avoid books where faith and religion comes into a story, as i am far from a religious person. Nonetheless, this was an enjoyable read and one that i could relate to in many ways. I was a full time carer to my mother who had Alzheimer's. There were times when i felt i couldn't cope, but i did with the help of family support. Loved the romance aspect. Well worth a read.

This book takes on a very difficult subject of caregivers and their loved ones. Tabitha's Aunt Tweet is getting lost in Alzheimer's. Tabitha and her sisters make a deal that they will be the caregiver for 6 months at a time. Tabitha finds her wandering Aunt on her neighbor's porch and he thinks she's doing a bad job of keeping Aunt Tweet out of trouble. Then he begins to help instead of criticize. This is a Christian romance that deals with family, love and illness in a very compassionate way. ...more

This is a Christian book about the joys and the hardships of caring for a family member with dementia. It follows a young professional as she cares for her elderly aunt with Alzheimer's. The caregiving situations are very real and shows the frustrations in accurate detail. There is also a unexpected romance to add to the mix. I enjoyed this book and would recommend as a quick easy to read book.

I received this book through NetGalley, When I began to read this book I did not realize it was a Christian romance but I continued to read it and really enjoyed it. The characters were wonderfully created with normal flaws that made them realistic. This story is heartbreaking for anybody, but especially for those that have dealt with a family member suffering through dementia or Alzheimer’s. It showed the true hardships that a caregiver experiences plus the love and appreciation that they also ...more

Marcus wasn’t expecting to see a woman on his surveillance camera , trespassing on his domain according to his security camera this wasn’t the first visit. What was going on? Marcus lived in Overdrive Court for four years. Clearly security had been breached. He didn’t have time for this. It was Monday morning and he had to get to the office. Whittington Janitorial Services, the company he started with his older brother Demitrius was twelve minutes from his house. Unlike his siblings, Marcus wasn ...more

A new to me author. Tabitha and her sisters are taking turns caring for their elderly Aunt Tweet, who has dementia/Alzheimer's. Aunt Tweet is living with Tabitha for six months, and Tabitha is realizing being a caregiver is harder than it sounds. When Aunt Tweet manages to slip out of the house and wander the neighborhood, she sits on a neighbor's porch. He thinks Tabitha is not caring for her aunt properly and that her safety is at stake, and keeps threatening to call the police. So right off ...more

Lean on Me was a mixed bag for me. Simmons does a fantastic job of creating a scenario where someone in the prime of their career is put in a position of being a caregiver for an older relative with memory issues. In her story, it's Tabitha, a pharmaceutical rep that agrees to split time with her two sisters taking care of their Aunt Tweet. And boy, does she make it clear how difficult it can be. On top of that, Tabitha meets Marcus during Aunt Tweet's not-so-lucid moments when she ends up on ...more

This is a story that needs to be told and one that everyone should read. Unless you walk in someone else's shoes you don't know what they are going through. Pat Simmons tells the story of Tabitha who is a pharmaceutical rep who becomes the caregiver of her Aunt Tweet who has Alzheimer's. In the morning while Tabitha was getting ready to go to work, her aunt would disappear and end up at a neighbors house and sit on his porch. Marcus wasn't too happy about that and threated to dial 911 if it ...more

Need a feel-good book? Try this one. As I read this lovely story, I could easily envision it as a Tyler Perry movie. “Lean on Me” is about family love and tackles the difficult topic of being a caregiver.

Never having been in the situation Tabitha is I felt overwhelmed just reading about what her life was like caring for her great-aunt. Marcus is the man every woman would love to have. After at first jumping to the conclusion that Tabitha was irresponsible in the care of her great-aunt he soon

This Christian book is an amazing story of the ups and downs of an Alzheimer’s caregiver. Tabitha and her sisters agreed to take care of their aunt on a six-month rotation so she does not have to go to a nursing home. Aunt Tweet stays with Tabitha first, and Tabitha has a very hard time adjusting not only to care for her aunt, but to her new job. Through Tweet’s wandering she meets a man who does not understand and he threatens to call 911 and turn Tabitha in for neglect. Getting to know them, ...more

I thought that this was an incredibly beautiful and powerfully heartfelt read. I truly believe that this is a book that is really going to connect with many readers. So many of us will see ourselves in Tabitha. From personal experience I know how hard it is to be a caregiver to someone you love. It is such a complex situation, and honestly, I believe that it is just not possible to fully understand this situation until you find yourself smack dab in the middle of it. As if that is not enough to ...more

My second new-to-me author of the new year, and another winner! In Lean on Me Pat Simmons uses the story of Tabitha Knicely's caregiving for her Aunt Tweet who suffers from dementia to demonstrate the blessings and challenges of being a caregiver. Marcus Whittington's role in the story prompts readers to be more aware of the support needed by those in caregiving situations. God places people in our lives who need our time and attention with no strings attached. Simmons tells this story against a ...more

A well depicted portrayal of a loved one with alzheimer's, definite caregiver stress and burnout.
I believe everyone knows or has heard of someone that has this dreaded illness. This novel hits a note with all of us.
Tabitha and her sisters share the care of their beloved Aunt Tweet, who is in her eighties and has had a wonderful full life.
Aunt Tweet tries to remain independent, but finds herself wandering many times, unable to read, unable to cook,, unable to live alone.

Lean On Me is a timely story of love, misunderstanding, and the caretaking of a loved one suffering from Alzheimer's, As parents, families, and friends age, most people have been touched in some way by this disease, and often judgements are made without a true understanding of what caregivers go through. Pat Simmons gives a touching, heartwarming story that hits all the points with three sisters striving to give the best care for their grandmother while following her written directions.

Lean on Me by Pat SImmons is a contemporary romance that follows Tabitha Knicely during her turn to care for her Aunt Tweet who has Alzeihmer’s. The premise sounds sweet with a cute romance, and it is, but it’s also heartbreaking at the same time. Tabitha’s development and Aunt Tweet’s actions throughout the story gives the reader a look into the difficulties of being the sole caregiver for a family member. On the other end it doesn’t seem as if the same thought is put into the other characters; ...more

Tabitha is barely keeping her head above water = she's working and most of all she's caring for her Aunt Tweet, who is sinking further daily into dementia. It doesn't help when her neighbor Marcus gets judgey and accuses her of not taking good care of Tweet because that's for sure not the case. These two are fated, you know, to become a couple and while this is a romance, it's really about family, faith, and keeping promises. It's underpinned by a strong Christian bent. Being a caregiver to someone with any form of Dementia is no easy task. Same holds true for Tabitha Knicely. Tabitha, along with her sisters have the daunting task of taking care of Aunt Tweet, last living elderly relative, who was just diagnosed with Alzheimer's. While trying to juggle that balancing act , she meets neighbor Marcus, who at the beginning, unknowingly attempts to turn her world upside down, but comes to realize the struggles Tabitha is dealing with.

Lean on Me was a sweet read about love, caregiving and one's faith in God. Tabitha is taking care of her Aunt Tweet who has been a guiding force in her and her sister's lives. Unfortunately Aunt Tweet has Alzheimer's and now it is Tabitha's turn to take care of her aunt. Along the way they meet Marcus, who at first is very harsh with Tabitha but soon comes to see it's not easy being a caregiver. Overall an inspiring story for those

I read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. This is a sweet story (100% sweet) about family, alz/caregiving, faith, and romance. An honest look at the terrible disease that alz is but, other than that, this book is so sweet. Maybe too sweet? I enjoyed it but never had that "I can't wait to get back to my book" feeling. If you are looking for a feel good, happy, no suspense kind of book, this is it :)

"Romantic, romantic, romantic--the chemistry between Tabitha and Marcus was real. Loved it. Also loved Aunt Tweet--the lovable woman whose memories are slipping away but whose imagination keeps spinning. When Marcus and Tabitha first meet sparks fly but not the romantic kind. But their true characters shine as God puts them to the test. Great read, romance and story of family.
