One thing I absolutely love with reading is finding amazing settings in stories and getting a bit of “virtual” travel while I read. With finding True to Me by Kay Bratt takes place in Hawaii I immediately had to grab this contemporary romance and thankfully the story was a lovely as the setting.

Quinn Maguire had spent her life being raised by a single mother thinking that her father had left as a child but when her mother is about to pass away she admits to lying about who Quinn’s father was.

This is my first read by Kay Bratt and I love her writing style. It’s described as a “by the sea novel” but it’s so much more than that.

It’s full of history, sorrow, love and secrets! Once I started “True to me” I could not put it down!

“True to me” is set in Maui which is an island in the central Pacific and is part of the Hawaiian archipelago. It’s full Hawaiian culture and history. I loved learning new words and respected how much the Hawaiian people value family and nature.

"Aloha......Most mainlanders were under the impression that aloha was the word used for both "hello" and "goodbye". But the article stated it was much more, that aloha meant "love," "peace," and "compassion." More than a word, a life of aloha meant the heart was overflowing, and when using it, one should be sincerely happy to see the person they said it to." This passage from the book spoke to me. It's how I feel when I am going to pick up one of Kay Bratt's novels. My heart is happy and ...more

When Quinn's mother whispers a long held secret to her on her deathbed it sends her ordinary life into a tail spin. A secret that sends her on a journey to Hawaii. This was a moving story and the descriptions of the island and the surroundings were just magical. I loved learning about the culture and traditions. This was such an emotional journey along with the character. This is my first time reading this author and I was completely captivated by the writing and the story. It amazed me. A ...more

TRUE TO ME by Kay Bratt is a beautifully-written and emotional story of family, forgiveness and second chances. On her deathbed, Quinn’s mother drops a bombshell confession with no further explanation that throws into question everything Quinn knows of her mother and her whole upbringing. Determined to uncover the truth about her mother’s past and learn more about her own history, Quinn travels to Maui, her mother’s childhood home to scatter her Mom’s ashes and explore what little she has heard ...more
I was first drawn to this book because of the cover when I saw it on NetGalley and then I saw all the four and five star reviews, I decided to read it. I am glad that I did.
Quinn Maguire's family has consisted of just her mother and herself her whole life. When her mother died of cancer, she was heartbroken. Before her death, her mom told her that the deadbeat dad that she can't remember was not actually her father. She asked that Quinn return her ashes to Hawaii where she and Quinn are from.

This is my all time favorite book yet of Kay Bratt! Full of love, sadness, grief, secrets and plenty of amazing history this book hooked me instantly! The beautiful and detail put into the culture and the scenery of Maui made me feel I was right there in this book! Quinns mother leaves her with a deathbed confession that leaves her wondering who she really is. Will she be able to find the truth and forgive what has been kept ftom her for so long? Since this is the first book that I have read by Kay Bratt, I didn’t know what to expect, but I must say I was blown away with her ability to paint a picture with words and to draw me into the story quickly. Quinn’s mother whispers a long-held secret on her deathbed, sending Quinn on a quest to discover her heritage. Her search takes her to the island of Maui, where she meets Liam, her guide who becomes her friend and helper in her quest. This is a magical look at one woman’s search for her ...more

Thank you to the author for this ARC.

I really enjoyed this book especially since it was set in the location of Maui, HI.

It was a easy read but emotional as well.

Quinn's mother surprised her on her death bed by telling her that for all of her life that her father wasn't her father. She buys a home on a whim in Maui, unseen, to look for her real father and finds out that the family who owns the house still lives there and hope they will move out soon. She moves into the guest house, unwillingly,

Well, this story hit very close to home for me. As I started reading it, I went through many emotions, one of which was if I could get through reading this story. I did continue reading it, am glad I did as it is a very intriguing story.
A heartwarming story about family secrets, finding oneself and most of all, how to forgive.
I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author, Kay Bratt, for the opportunity to read the ARC of True to Me and

I was immediately drawn to this book because of the beautiful cover. After reading the blurb I knew this was a must read.

Quinn Maguire has always done the right thing. When her mother passes away it turns her world upside down in search for answers.
Determined to do the right thing Quinn travels to Maui and encounters a few hiccups she never saw coming. Will she be able to find the answers she's looking for?

True to Me blew me away! I loved this story of Quinn as she discovered the lies and truths of the life she had been content to live. Her world is rocked to the core when her mother reveals a secret on her deathbed. Quinn travels to Maui, where it all began, to find out the truth. Quinn finds some wonderful people in her quest for answers and maybe, just maybe, she will find out what really makes her happy.

And how can a story be anything but fantastic when the setting is a beautiful island in

This was a wonderful book to end the year! Quinn’s journey is heartfelt and inspiring. A vast knowledge of Hawaiian culture is displayed by the author. She does an amazing job of capturing the importance of ohana, pono and other aspects which brought back fond memories. I loved the little twists that complicated Quinn’s search while also enhancing her understanding of her situation (don’t want to give too much away). If you’re looking to start the new year with an uplifting story, look no ...more

This book was a fun read. Like a summer day beach novel sorta feel, if you will. Basically Quinn finds out that her dad isn't really her dad when her mom tells her just before she passes. So the adventure begins when she's off to Maui to spread her mother's ashes and learn her family roots along the way. I won't spoil anything you'll just have to read it for yourself! 4.5 stars

This is the first book I have read by Kay Bratt but it is now clear that I will have to buy some of her past books. While I love thrillers and suspense, there are times that I just want a “feel good” story, and this book was just right.

The story took me back to the days when I travelled to Hawaii frequently to work. I loved the moments I was able to escape the tourist areas and enjoy the scenery and chat with some of the delightful local people. This is a story of family, friendships,

You had me at Maui and genealogy. My favorite place and the study I find fascinating. This book sucks you in at the beginning and holds you until the end. Just unbelievable enough to be totally believable.

Quinn and her mother are very close. But, on her mother’s deathbed, Quinn is told something that rocks her world; the story she has been told all along about her father is a lie. This starts a mystery Quinn needs to unravel herself. This starts her impulsive decision to buy a house, site

The importance of marrying not for money but for love and how life can throw us curves in time's of peril.
What we thought was a downfall could turn to be quite the blessing.
Can money buy happiness?
Can love win in the end?
Will DNA truly be the most important factor here?

5 stars . As a lover of anything Hawaii related I have to say I was super excited to be able to read this book before it’s official publish date. I’ve been to Maui 4 times and it’s truly my favorite place in the world. I have been a long-time fan of Kay Bratt and was excited to find out that she had a new book. my opinion, it was her best book yet. The characters are well written, the plot has some mystery and some romance and the Hawaiian setting made me want to buy an airline ticket and visit Hawaii.

Another beautiful book by Kay Bratt. Her books leave you breathless and with tears in your eyes. Both tears of sadness and joy. Heartache and happiness. Such emotions make her books some of the best I’ve ever read. Through in a laugh or two and you have a wonderful, heartfelt, touching, loving, story.

Kay Bratt is amazing! This isn't the first book I have read by her. She blows me away with each book. As with every book I have read by Kay, it brought me into the world of the characters, and seemed like I was there with them.

Amazing Tale. This was one of those tales that was so rich that the author could spend the rest of her career writing within this world and I'm pretty sure no one would be disappointed. The tale here of finding oneself and the large amounts of forgiveness that sometimes requires is palpable and tragic - but ultimately the feel good story one expects from this particular author. Just as with her previous book, this one yet again feels like it was written specifically to one of her daughters and ...more
