My favorite sort of contemporaries are ones that are cute with humor! This was a fun story with a super adorable dose of romance. Of course there were factors that came along that broke the leads apart, and I did get stressed out during those aspects. But I can understand why, especially with them being teens.

Brett was swoony and gentlemanly, while Becca was an awesome girl who loved to read. Just my kind of characters! Also, there was a bakery and talk about desserts, and that alone would have

Not bad, but definitely not memorable for me. The Upside of Falling is a fun fake dating story, but it all felt a little rushed so I didn't connect with the characters (and by extension the relationship) as much as I wanted too. But I did like the focus on family we got and there were plenty of cute moments to make this a super quick story to read.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

NEW REVIEW: Wow! Alex Light didn't disappoint - in fact she DELIVERED! The Upside of Falling was just as delightful as I hoping for, and was just the Valentine's Day weekend read I needed. My heart is soaring, and these characters will always be with me. Really hope there's a sequel

REVIEW BEFORE READING: Read this story on the Episode Interactive app and then again on Wattpad, when it was first under the name “Rivals.” So excited to read again with the new updates and new name, as Alex Light is

I really enjoyed this very cute YA contemporary romance. It was so pure and sweet!

Firstly, I think I am probably a little too old for this book although that didn't stop me from loving it and reading it in 24 hours.
The main characters Becca and Brett were brilliant. Characters full of heart and goodness. Not a player in sight! The back story of Becca was good, although I believe it was resolved too easily and that the scene with her dad was a little unrealistic.
I loved the side

There was something equal parts enjoyable and equal parts off about this one. I can't put my finger on what I didn't love. It might have been the tone. Not really sure. All in all it was a very quick read though.

Both had their reasons for not dating, but when Brett heard Becca being teased about her single status, he stepped in, and assumed the role of her doting fake boyfriend. The longer the charade continued, the more they began to enjoy each other's company, but would family drama derail this blossoming relationship?

This was super cute with quite a bit of weightier moments sprinkled throughout. I had a great time reading this book, and below are five things that added to my enjoyment.

I mean, there’s a reason all books end right after the couple gets together. No one wants to keep reading long enough to see the happily ever after turn into an unhappily ever after. Right?

Thank you so much to Edelweiss, Harper TEEN and Alex Light for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Upside of Falling is an adorable book that plays with the fake relationship trope, which is easily one of my favorite tropes. So when I saw that there was a new book coming out with this front and

This book is perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen and Jenny Han! It features one of my favorite tropes - fake dating. The Upside of Falling was the first book I have read by Alex Light and I really enjoyed it. The main character, Becca, was really likable and a bookworm like me. I felt that the character of Brett could have been developed a little bit more but overall he was enjoyable as well. The kind of guy I would have liked in high school. This was a really cute young adult romance. It was well ...more

This book is just so pure! I had a blast reading it, even if I felt attacked by the main character for being a lonely romance-novel lover. Both characters were a great study in how to deal with a parent’s divorce/affair and how those things affect their children and their relationships. Adorable, funny, and heartfelt, “The Upside of Falling” is a great read for anyone who wants to escape their life for a little bit.

I read it in one sitting and kept annoying my friends around me about how cute it

I’m so excited to read this! It was such a great book on Wattpad and Alex has improved so much on her writing since then so I’m sure it’s going to be absolutely phenomenal.

I've read her story on the Episode Interactive App and then I also read it under the name 'Rivals' at least 3 more times on Wattpad if not more! I absolutely loved it, it was so cute and her writing is phenominal as always! And I can guarantee you that I will love the book even more! ;) I've watched her grow as an author and seeing where she ended up, warms my heart! <3 You did an amazing job, and you should be so proud of yourself. I always adored Alex-Light's writing style and her way of ...more

I was hoping for a quick and fun read over the holidays when I picked up The Upside of Falling and quick and fun was what I got~ The story was well-rounded leaving me completely satisfied.

The Upside of Falling had a little bit of everything- family, friendship and romance. I really liked that the story was told in dual POV. We got to see more than one side and how similar issues can have very different outcomes. The problems the story dealt with were not too heavy or dramatic and they had good

Thank you so much to the publisher for sending me this novel in exchange for an honest review!

This was an easy to read, drama filled, but also a feel good story. I enjoyed the writing and the high school setting. It was a simple yet very enjoyable story. It really focuses on family troubles, first loves, and the drama that only really happens in high school.

Becca was super relatable as she is a fellow avid reader. I especially loved her personality, and how she doesn’t care much about popularity

Cute and funny, nice mix of rom com and teen-awkwardness and more serious subject of dealing with divorce. Ending a little too easy, but still delightful read.
Perfect for fans of Jenny Han - fake dating, clean.

Very cute contemporary, but kind of rushed at times. It was an overall enjoyable read that only took me a few hours to finish. Will definitely look for more from this author in the future.

If you want a light and fluffy, easy-to-read, and honestly rather simplistic YA romance, this is definitely an option. If, however, you want more realistic and organic character development, with protagonists who aren't overidealized, shallow, underdeveloped, or cliche-feeling, then you might be a bit frustrated with The Upside of Falling. It isn't a terrible book but the writing lacks nuance, skews very young, and you

If you're looking for a quick, fluffy romance book with little emotional investment, filled with cute moments, delicious bakery treats, and two lead characters who aren't complete nincompoops and both going through their own emotional journeys, then this is the book for you.

Seriously, if anyone ever asks me to recommend them a YA romance, this will probably be my go-to from now on.

It was just so CUTE. That cover completely does this book

Fake relationships is a favorite trope of mine so I was ready to give this one a read. But I'll be honest with you, I have not been in a contemporary mood in a very long time. I picked up my tablet just looking around at the books coming out this week. I loved this cover and the whole YA fake relationship vibe it had so I opened it. To my udder shock, I had read 25% of it before I even knew it. And I didn't want to put it down. Yep, stuck in a book.

The set-up was perfect. Girl is a bookworm.

“If love couldn’t exist in reality, at least it was alive in fiction. Between the pages it was safe. The heartbreak was contained. There was no aftermath, no shock waves.”

I loved this, like a giddy school girl. You know when you read YA and sometimes the characters sound really immature and it just ruins it for you, well that did not happen in this book. In fact, the characters were well written and relatable. I didn’t find myself

I probably found out this book right about 3 years ago when it was only published in digital format on Wattpad and episode ( back then under the name Rivals ) , and as soon as I started reading the first chapter I was instatly hooked and utterly starstruck be the main love interest and protagonist Brett . From a shy socially award senior ,Becca turned out in a funny turn of events to date ( even as a cover up ) the hottest yet kindest and most popular boy in school that any girl would kill to be ...more
