British poet Rachel Finch is the powerhouse behind the Bruised But Not Broken community on Facebook, which provides support and healing for trauma survivors. She is a symbol of hope and light throughout the world. She returns a year after the release of her 5-star debut A Sparrow Stirs its Wings with her second book, Conversations With My Higher Self. Conversations With My Higher Self recounts Finch’s personal experience with a near death, out-of-body life-changing event during the delivery of her eldest daughter. Written in beautiful and mesmerizing verse, Conversations With My Higher Self is a provocative book. Honest, spiritual, and cathartic, Finch gives us a tantalizing glimpse of what is on the other side- transformation, light and love. "I am outside of myself, more whole without shape andI exist as a spectra of light, nebula shining bright,I am matter and more."
Rachel's words both hit hard and inspire. I have previously read her other book "A Sparrow Stirs its Wings" and this one was just as powerful. She shares herself with such a raw and beautiful voice that you can't help but want to read more and more.
Finch’s work is freeing. Although Conversations with my Higher Self follows different subject matter to A Sparrow Stirs Its Wings, her message remains the same; you deserve to be free.
Finch’s words guide you through her journey to freedom within and outside of herself. She reveals why she desires to lift others up in her day to day work with Bruised But Not Broken; the little girl within her had to teach her patience, peace and courage, now she endeavours to show us how to do the same.
She writes with visceral intensity and love which is raw, and sometimes bleeding. There is no doubt she is a writer who bares her soul in every word; she undresses herself on her own terms and stands a woman of indomitable strength.
This collection is yet another reason why Rachel Finch, a woman, a daughter, a mother, a lover and a healer, deserves to be seen as an inspiration to many.
Beautiful poetry that draws you in and pulls you along, yearning to understand and knowing that every word is truth. I loved the haunting thoughts and flowing emotions of every stanza. Remarkable.
Rachel Finch is such unique voice in the world of poetry. These are more than simple affirmations, or even poems. Every page is a new beginning, another life lived and by the end, I was floored. Conversations is a spiritual journey, and Finch delivers on the promise from page one.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I relate to it in so many ways. The way she describes her out of body, otherworldly experiences are sharp in invoking all the senses. “Other people’s faces are inches from mine and I can smell their intentions”... another favorite of mine is “the time I spend recovering is misshapen.” I love the blended rhythm of all her past lives, and how they have lead her to here and now, and the remembering, is something I hope we all can achieve.
